Curtis: Information

Curtis (genre: Rap) consists of

  • ------------------------------------------------------------------ Rolling Stone article "The Rise of The Herd", 2017 ------------------------------------------------------------------ Curtis Lamarr Johnson, aka Kurt, was born in Harlem, New York, but was ultimately raised in Compton, California. Him and his mother Theresa Johnson, an R&B singer from Atlanta, Georgia, moved throughout most of his early childhood, until finally settling in Los Angeles. As a kid, Curtis shared her motherīs love for Jazz, Blues, Soul, Funk and R&B music, specially from the South. His cousins would later influence his taste, turning him into a Hip Hop stan. ()
  • As a teen Curtis would usually stay away from trouble but the streets of LA were merciless. He excelled in the Basketball team, potentially earning him a scholarship at UCLA, but a constant injury kept him from fulfilling his potential. Instead, Curtis focused on his musical skills like writing, composing and producing since the early age of 15. As a senior, Curtis got expelled for participating in a brawl along with his friends. He used the time away from classes to produce and record his first ever mixtape, Herd Mentality, which would eventually achieve Gold status and would gather critical aclaim among the Los Angeles hip hop scene. ()
  • About a year later, he would release another mixtape and start working on building his own label: The Herd Crew, in partnership with Londonīs indie band The Elevens and the british Danzig Records. Signing the likes of young and misterious canadian R&B artist Vibez and the recklez aussie alternative rock band Taz. With his own label on the rise, and under the wing of mentors like Kendrick Lamar, Pharrel Williams and Dr Dre, he would release his critically aclaimed major label debut album: The Diaries, which would go three times Platinum. ()
  • Multiple mixtapes and albums later, each of them multiple times platinum, Kurt is still on the front of Hip Hop, referred to by his piers as one of the most promising young rappers. Part of the sensation hip hop collective: Black Mamba, and with his label T.H.C. stronger than ever, now managing several musical acts from all around the globe, Curtis Johnson is without a doubt a young mogul of the music industry and an imminent superstar on the rise.
