kingofthecurls.tumblr.comThis is Oscar Joseph Ward. He was more or less the first boy in the band that we all fell in love with. Whether or not he is still your favourite today, Oscar was instrumental in their breakthrough success and introducing Weekend to the masses. He was (and technically still is) the lead vocalist of the band. The entire first album and its re-release was sprinkled with Oscar's outgoing personality and distinct powerful vocals. He has taken a back seat in recent years and many believe it is due to his constant clashes with Billy, which have subsequently taken the fight and the fire out of him. The curly haired original poster boy that drew us in even once quit the group for 24 hours due to clashes with Khan. Oscar has also been in a serious relationship with Eilidh, who is ever so lovely but not the sharpest knife in the drawer and still needs a lot of looking after in the big bad world. He's also raising TWO children who are no older than three years of age on top of watching Eilidh's every move. Oscar has also endured the pain of "losing" his once powerful vocals and has had surgery on his vocal chords. Has he given up on us? No. Should we overlook him in favour of Billy and his petty drama? No. This is Riley Connor Hamilton. Now we all know that he is one of the loveliest people to have ever walked the Earth. The time he dedicates to the fans, the number of us he tries to follow, all of the animal and children's charities he supports as well as his "#ThinkPositive" quotes he shares with us all back up that statement. What a lot of people do forget is that even through the smiles and his kind nature, Riley probably deals with a lot of pain both emotionally and physically on a daily basis. The fairytale romance with Michelle came to an end and surprised us all. Riley lost his father, mother and eldest brother all within a year and a half. It was like something out of an overly dramatic, 80's soap opera. So tragic. Riley also has serious health issues. He infamously collapse on stage and fell into a coma for two weeks but that severe asthma attack wasn't a one-off. Riley has had problems with his respiratory system ever since he was born. He has his inhaler with him at all times and unfortunately, he may not be that lucky during his next attack as they tend to be rather severe. It's not nice to think of but the truth rarely is. Does he lay down and play the victim and let the others do the work? Hell no. Should we overlook him in favour of Billy and his petty drama? No. This is Scott Jay Edward Wellington. The public have very polarising views on him but us, the devoted fans, all love and cherish Scott no matter what he himself thinks. The amount of abuse he receives online from trolls is shocking and totally uncalled for. Some say he fuels the fire with his comments but if you received the hateful messages he receives almost every minute of the day, you'd snap back at some point too. All of his life, Scott has felt like he's never been good enough. Even now that he's "made it", he still feels inferior to his band mates and the fact that many poke fun at him doesn't help raise his self esteem. His father is a surgeon and wanted Scott to follow in his footsteps. His mother is a teacher and wanted Scott to do well at school then go on to follow a career path like his father. Neither of them were too pleased to find out that his dream was to be on stage rather than saving lives like his father. Even though it is a noble profession, Scott felt like it wasn't his calling in life. When his parents moved from Australia to the UK and then reluctantly sent him to a drama school in his pre-teen to early teen years, Scott felt like a fish out of water. He was the "foreign boy" and with a lack of confidence and support at home, Scott blended into the background at the academy and was eventually removed after an altercation with another pupil who constantly picked on him for his stage fright. To this day, Scott still battles with the bullies and his personal demons. While the whole world watches him deal with his insecurities as a performer, they are now hounding him for his skills as a father as he and his wife Jennifer are expecting their first child together. Does Scott quit when the going gets tough and he has to step up? No. Should we overlook him in favour of Billy and his petty drama? No. This is Dustyn Kian Blue. He is the youngest member of Weekend and is only 20 years of age but he has probably packed more into his life than all of us and the rest of Weekend combined. He has always known, well at least from a very early age, that we was gay. Dustyn jokes about certain celebrities turning him gay but the truth is, it was something that "haunted" him for many years. Growing up in a small town in Tipperary as part of an almost extremist Catholic and very well respected family, Dustyn stood out like a sore thumb. The Blue's were heavily involved with the local church and like the majority of his small town, they had very old fashioned views on religion as well as sexuality. Hiding the fact that he was gay wasn't Dustyn's only issue. He was born with a mild form of Asperger's syndrome, putting him on the autistic spectrum. While his elder siblings excelled in school and "did the family proud", Dustyn had many difficulties and complications during his time in education. His bright, comedic and high spirited persona as well as the lack of some social graces which unfortunately is an effect of his autism did make him seem like "the village idiot" in his proper, quaint little area. He always felt like the runt of the litter and when he finally came out (to the whole world!) at just 16 years old, he felt disowned by the majority of his family. We also know that Dustyn has been unlucky in love, suffering through tragic and abusive relationships. He also has an ongoing battle with his cocaine addiction. Dustyn is a happy little soul who just wants love but unfortunately, he seems to look for it in all the wrong places. Does he curl up in a ball and avoid all the difficult and testing times life throws at him? No. Should we overlook him in favour of Billy and his petty drama? No. There are so much more important things going on besides Billy and his Twitter rants. I do love him but he's really one big long car crash. The other Weekend boys need our love, support and attention. Don't tar them with the same brush or call them "irrelevant" because, honey, they are fucking idols. |
