On the way in the post are Michael Giacchino's marvellous soundtracks to Seasons 1 & 2 of Lost, it being something I am particularly enjoying in the World Lost Rewatch (just made it to the start of Season 2 this week), followed shortly thereafter by the double-disc Season 4 Battlestar Galactica Soundtrack by the one the only Bear McCreary. Beyond that I got the self-titled Years debut, as well as Dronework and Chiaroscuro by Bass Communion, the latter of which is particularly interesting as containing the as yet sole live performance of Bass Communion as a solo guitar act much as explored on last years Molotov & Haze.

How can you listen to Coldplay after they sooo almost ripped off Satriani? When the guitarist if I'm not mistaken has said in an interview before that he was a big fan of Satriani. It made me lose all respect for the band.

That attitude is bullshit. Utter bullshit. Led Zeppelin stole riffs left right and centre from blues staples. Everybody does it, intentionally, or unintentionally. Chord sequences are repeated endlessly because they're easy to play and sound good. The whole pop punk scene is based on a million identikit bands playing the same chords and only modifying the melody slightly.

Frank Zappa, a musical hero of mine, inserted portions of classical music into songs here there and everywhere, and he even used that old staple Louie Louie at every given opportunity as a musical joke. I'm not saying Coldplay are up to the level of musical jokes, but incorporating a playing style they like, using a similar riff or melody, that's inevitable. I don't know if you've ever noticed, but Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Baa Baa Black Sheep are actually the very same melody.

The real reason not to like Coldplay is that they're yawntastic.

That's true too but the whole entire song is pretty much copied. You just don't copy someones music they wrote you might put bits and pieces in there like Zeppelin did but not take the whole entire song and just changed the main riff sound to come from a different instrument. All I'm saying is it's just bullshit how Satriani took his time writing that song and not get any respect for it while Coldplay does where they both sound the same IMO.

Yes, Coldplay lost all my respect for this. It pissed me off. They are Liars. LIARS!
Seven Grammy's and not one penny to Joe. They just denied it. They denied it!! But you can hear it.
They are cowards too. Before Joe went to court they even didnt want to speak to him, no contact at all.

At BBC News i found three articles about this.
1
Coldplay have denied, in a US federal court, that they copied parts of rock guitarist Joe Satriani's music for their hit song, Viva La Vida.
Lawyers for the band argue that any similarities between the song and Satriani's If I Could Fly were not enough to warrant damages.
Mr Satriani sued Coldplay in December, claiming they had used "substantial, original portions" of his 2004 song.
He is seeking a jury trial, damages and "any and all profits" from the song.
In court papers filed in Los Angeles, Coldplay also claim Mr Satriani's song "lacks originality" and should not receive copyright protection.
The guitarist's lawyer, Howard E King, said Coldplay's response was typical for copyright infringement cases and he reiterated that he thought the matter could have been resolved without legal action.
Following Mr Satriani's claim in December, Coldplay said in a statement on their website that the 52-year-old "did not write or have any influence on the song".
"If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental and just as surprising to us as to him," they added. Coldplay are currently in the middle of a world tour promoting their latest album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends.
2
Grammy nominees Coldplay have denied claims by rock guitarist Joe Satriani that they plagiarised one of his riffs on their song Viva La Vida.
In a statement on their website they said Mr Satriani "did not write or have any influence on the song".
Mr Satriani claims the track uses "substantial original portions" of his 2004 instrumental If I Could Fly.
The 52-year-old musician has filed court papers in Los Angeles and is seeking damages.
'No influence'
Coldplay are shortlisted for seven awards at February's Grammys, including song of the year for Viva La Vida.
"With the greatest possible respect to Joe Satriani, we have now unfortunately found it necessary to respond publicly to his allegations," the band said.
"If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental and just as surprising to us as to him.
"Joe Satriani is a great musician but he did not write or have any influence on the song Viva La Vida." If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental and just as surprising to us as to him
Coldplay
The group have asked him to "accept our assurances" over the song.
Viva La Vida is credited to the band's four members - singer Chris Martin, bass player Guy Berryman, guitarist Johnny Buckland and drummer Will Champion.
The song's title was inspired by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
It appeared on the album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends - which was released in June and went to number one in 36 countries - and was also one of their hit singles.
Satriani's track appears on his album Is There Love in Space?

Well you're still not buying them, if he's burning you copies of them...

And unless he has some sort of vague idea of what he's doing when burning, the quality has most likely dropped also.

On top of that, at least five of those albums make my ears want to cry.
