Obviously pop fans and metal fans expect different things in a show. I personally go to see the actual artist, the dancing, the visual effects, the outfits and for the whole experience of it all. Whilst a metal fan would expect... things that I don't know of. :P

Well, you tend to go to listen to the music usually, which because it is performed live and not mimed sounds different to the record. Some times better, some times worse, sometime more intense and sometimes limper. But that's live music. Most fancy stageshow I've ever seen at a gig was a big backdrop with the headliners logo on it at the back of the stage. And fuck it, I don't know anyone who goes to gigs for cute sideshow antics. Give me music thanks.

I've been to see shows where the artist has sung live and shows where the artist has mimed and I preferred the mimed one to all the others, it really doesn't bother me because of all the dancing and effects that just add to the whole show.

I disagree. At a lot of metal gigs, the last thing people are doing is listening. And that rightly pisses me off.

They are still listening, they just don't need to focus as much as you, clearly.

There are different qualities of listening. They seem to me to be hearing but not listening - at least to my conception of listening.

How? Come on Bruce Dickinson is 50, he puts way more physical effort than any pop singer out there, he sings better (well more technically, or whatever you'd like to call it) than most singers of any genre, and he uses no lip-synch or backing vocalists

Oh please are you kidding me??? To me he sounds boring and horrible, don't compare him to pop singers. He is good at what HE does , but that doesn't make him better than everyone.

And the same argument back at you vis-a-vis pop singers instead of metal ones, etc, etc, ad-nauseum.

No! Wrong wrong wrong! The topic here is should Pop singers sing when they are dancing their asses off. Not who has more energy or who can sing better or blah blah blah!!!

Anyway,

to sum up my point, I don't think Pop singers should sing when they are dancing their asses off. 1.) because they sound horrible like anyone would.
2.) As long as they give a great show and the fans are pleased that's all that matters.

Then, what's the point on them touring?, they could just play the album and put people dancing, while the singer who made the album enjoy spending time at his/her new bought home in the italian alps

That's a stupid way to try to sound smart.

The only reason people come to the show is to see the actual person. Doing what they do isn't easy, doing about 20-30 songs, dancing to them, not only that, putting something that's actually entertaining and pleasing to the eye. The hectic timed outfit changes. Worrying about not falling. If Britney Spears concert was her standing singing all her songs the whole time no one would come to her show and her career would be over.

The only reason? Just to see that person??? Nothing more??? Doing what they do isn't easy? Playing an instrument and singing in tune isn't easy? Playing 100% life isn't easy? 20-30 1 minute songs? Yeah right! Entertaining.... a one guy on a stage isn't entertaining??? Hectic times outfit changes? Are there camera's in the dressing room? Worrying not falling? What has that to do with making music?
And your last remark about her standing while she sings, you are right. This kind of shows like hers are degenerated monstrous decadented freak shows for uncritical children called fans who dont know anymore what you have to expect from artists.

First of all the shows are not 30 minutes, the shows are about 2 hours. Don't give me that bullshit that people go to the concerts just to hear music. Otherwise what is the point, you could just listen to music in your I-pod and that's music. Most people come to the shows to see the band or the artist. People who go to Pop shows in particular expect to see the cool special effects, the dancing, the amazing costumes, the lights and the Pyro's. Most pop artist who do mime either don't mime the whole show or they try to connect with the crowd as much as possible. And all of this has doesn't have to with making music it has to do with making a performance.

So fuck yourself in the ass already and stop being so closed minded.

You dont need special effects and customs to make a concert or to connect with people, Bob Dylan with his guitar and his voice is one of the greatest performers in the world, because he believes on what he is doing, there is also bands that do all the special effects thing and they dont need to mime even if they are 70 and they run/dance more than when they were 20.

I never said you need that in order to connect with them, I said that's what people expect out of a "POP SHOW" Bob Dylan in my opinion is boring and has no different style than many singer. Are you telling me Beyonce, Shakira, Britney don't believe in themselves or what they are doing? Yeah I wanna know what kind of band performs inside a moving cage while dancing and singing at the same time.

And who said I only listen to the radio. As I explained before I have a variety of types of music genre's I listen to on my I-pod. Just because I hate Metal doesn't mean I don't have an appreciation towards music. Many of the music I listen to is Latin Rock, Country, Reggae and Salsa, etc. Stuff they wouldn't dare play on the radio.

So basically, you hate everything but Salsa, Pop and country (stuff commonly played on radio as far as I know), latin rock (what is this anyway?), and reggae (nothing to say here), really open-minded

No, I listen to much more. I love Jazz, R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop, Rap, etc.

And its Stuff that isn't played on the radio because it is underground dumb ass. Latin Rock is rock music played in Latin areas (tad different from Rock they play over here).

Alright just to end a pointless arguement I differ from your understanding of underground, and just to clear my mind Latin Rock is Rock made by latin people like this:
or rock influenced by latin sounds like this

Yeah Open Minded.

So Steph, who are your favourite jazz artists & groups?

And when you say R&B do you mean...pop music or do you mean rhythm & blues? If the former then it's technically called R'n'B to differentiate it from R&B.
