I would have to disagree on the insanely talented bit, so many better musicians from the 90's. I sometimes think I'm the only person who really hates Nirvana's guts. Embarrassing, given I was born in Aberdeen....

Nirvana are perfectly decent in an utterly inoffensive way. Catchy pop-rock, kind of disposable. I went through years of utterly hating Nirvana as a silly reaction against their popularity but really, their fans are the only really irritating thing about Nirvana.

Agreed, but what I'm trying to say is, out of all the grunge bands, they are likely the worst. Alice in Chains would probably be my personal favorite.

In Utero is quite a good album actually, plus Kurt Cobain sung on an Earth live album. But AIC is superior on musical skills and grunge angst, obviously before the Cheap Layne Staley Impersonation Band released an album as Alice In Chains.

Amen, there comes a point where you gotta ask, is it really helping Jerry Cantrell to call his solo stuff Alice in Chains?

Exactly! Specially since Black Gives Way To Blue only ranks a bit lower than Degradation Trip.

Technically skilled yes except for drums but for song quality I'd say STP who never really seemed that great to me. Nirvana is my personal favorite but I don't like grunge in general.

Honestly, there's a shit load of fucking mediocre grunge bands who had nothing on Nirvana, bands like Bush, and then you have the so-called "nu-grunge" shit like Staind and Puddle of Mudd. Barf. Naw, Nirvana were no where near the worst. Actually, of all the grunge bands I listen to AiC, then Soundgarden, then Nirvana, then Mudhoney.

Top ten songs currently on my iTunes... no order:

01. The Cure - Prayers for Rain (or anything off Disintegration, it's an amazing album) or Underneath The Stars (yeah, sure, it may not be 'proper' Cure, but there's something about it that I love)
02. The Smiths - This Charming Man
03. Bright Eyes - Lime Tree
04. Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Follow You Into The Dark
05. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
06. My Bloody Valentine - Soon
07. The Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight
08. The Shins - New Slang
09. The Strokes - Last Nite
10. The Libertines - What Katie Did

Can't resist Mudhoney! But I don't even consider this nu-grunge grunge at all as it sounds nothing like 90s grunge. I though the first Bush album was alright actually, though it reminds me of creed especially Come Down.Almost every "Nu-(insert genre)" band doesn't actually have anything common with the original genre except a few new prog bands.

I dont think you should rely on iTunes, I have like 40 plays of The Germs's What We Do Is Secret on Winamp, because somehow I let it on loop once, so it played for about twenty minutes. And it works surprisingly well on loop.

Just for the record, my top listened to song on last.fm (which only counts music I listen to on the computer and not my mp3 player), with 69 plays, is Zozobra by Old Man Gloom, which is 27:19 in length. That works out at over 33 hours of listening to that song. If you add up my mp3 player plays, you're looking well into 100 plays, totalling over 2 days...
