Isabel 2014 Just A Dose Performance "Who To Trust? Recovery Hide And Seek Imperfections (Are The Best) Hold On, We're Going Home (Drake Cover) Do What You Do Release Heart On The Line (Kourtney Steele Cover)" As Izzy walks onto the stage in her simple white dress that was similar to her bohemian style she loved so much. Her hair was long and flowing, a white flower in it on the side and a braid going around it. She looked as she felt; peaceful. The past few months had been such an intense time with a new relationship, loss of friendship and getting back into music again. This was her first official performance of her new single but she was glad to be doing it here, on a new platform. It was sort of like christening the show. Tonight's performance was going to be more intimate with a more acoustic sound than her normal pop tones. The crowd was prepared for her, almost as if they represented her millions of fans who had been waiting to hear some new music from her in a long time. She greeted them with a smile and waves, kisses to all of them as they were loudly praising her.
She had a stool positioned in the middle of the stage and a microphone stand that was easily accessible when she sat down. She was anxious to perform, to feel the warmth of the crowd she was so used to. The stage was like another home for her, so much that she felt comfortable on there now and she wasn't even wearing shoes. She always thought it was better than wearing shoes that were way too tight and the heels too high and she never wanted to feel uncomfortable while performing.
"Thank you. Oh, thank you so much. I can't tell you what it means to me to perform again in front of all of you. It's been a long time right?" She laughs. "I wanted to thank the producers for 'Just A Dose' for allowing me to be here. I'm excited for all this program has to offer and I think it's amazing to get to be this close and intimate with your favorite artists. I love it." She sits down on the stool. "I'm going to perform a couple of songs for you guys tonight. Hopefully, you all enjoy them."
She sits up straight and brings the microphone closer to her. In the stand sat her patented bedazzled microphone, her name in diamonds on the side of it, 'ISABEL' and in a light white. The place was dimly lit in order to accompany the mood. It was laid back. She wouldn't be dressed in her normal costume wear or be doing choreographed numbers. No, she would be connecting with her fans on a personal level.
"This first song is called, 'Who To Trust?' Enjoy."
With the keyboardist in the background, Izzy starts to vocalize with him, her voice light and in a soprano tune.
Oooooooh (x2)
[Verse 1] I don't know what you think You see me living life in the fast lane But you don't know what I do How it looks easy to you And you're wrong, wrong, ohh
I can think about the old days I struggled just to hear people scream my name Would you put yourself through All the pain that's aimed for you? For a few minutes and hours of being so imfamous? You know,
[Chorus] Oooooooh Who to trust? (Uh-oh) Who to trust? Ooooooooooh Who to trust? (Uh-oh) Who to When you're blinded by the flashing lights When you're feeling like that nothing's right When you're always in a selfless fight Who to trust? ( Oooooooh) Who to trust?
[Verse 2] Everyone can't see the truth Thinking all their years of fame are in their youth But, little do they know There's a route that they can go They'll be hanging with their family and friends Never having to end You know,
[Chorus] Oooooooh Who to trust? (Uh-oh) Who to trust? Ooooooooooh Who to trust? (Uh-oh) Who to When you're blinded by the flashing lights (Come on!) When you're feeling like that nothing's right (Nothing's right) When you're always in a selfless fight Who to trust? ( Oooooooh) Who to trust?
Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na La La La La La La La La (x2)
[Bridge] They're all players, in their layers And the outside looks so good But on the inside They still hide Some won't speak up like they should Suddenly they're falling, never calling They wanna make it on their own Then you find yourself out there, all alone
Yeah
[Chorus] Oooooooh Who to trust? (Uh-oh) Who to trust? Ooooooooooh Who to trust? (Uh-oh) Who to When you're blinded by the flashing lights When you're feeling like that nothing's right (Ohhh) When you're always in a selfless fight When you've seen the things you thought you'd like When you've threw yourself into the night When you've let a part of you just die Who to trust? Who to trust? Who to I don't know what you think
She finishes, the expected applause turns into a roar of thunderous cheers. Izzy was always relieved to get any type of reaction, much less this kind. "Thank you." She said in a soft voice. Izzy was a great live singer, but she wasn't perfect. There were times she messed up but she didn't hound herself over it as much as people might think. It was true she was something of a perfectionist but she knew that sometimes people just had nerves or technical difficulties. By this time, she had already made herself feel comfortable enough to talk to her fans, something she loved doing at all her live shows.
"So, how you guys feeling out there? Yeah? That's good. I'm feeling really great myself, really happy. I just missed you guys so much and I have all of these stories to tell. I have so much new music for you guys to hear, it's really exciting. I'm like fan girling over myself." She laughs. "So I don't know if you guys know or not but I'm 21 now, yeah, woo hoo! And ever since I've turned 21, all I've been getting and hearing is, 'Are you going to grow up with your music? Will you stop making dance songs and party songs?' I've always felt like....I've always made songs according to my feelings and not what everyone wanted me to make songs about. And I'm just so disappointed that people suddenly want me to change into this full grown, kind of sex like figure and that's not even me. I'm just a kid at heart really. I relate with adults, kids, I'm just that person. My music is just that, my music. I really wish the music industry would open it's eyes and see that artists have the right to make whatever type of music they want, not just what they are expected to make. Goodness, I just rambled for like 5 minutes, I'm sorry."
She giggles as the crowd cheers her on. "Ahem, okay so back to the music. No idea where that came from! This next song is, it's my first time doing this acoustic so, bare with me. This is 'Recovery'." As the man next to her starts strumming on his guitar to the melody of the track, Isabel's voice starts to boom over the microphone. Even though it's a fairly calm and melancholy song, Izzy manages to not make it a boring performance. her enchanting smile and warm stage presence, always left one feeling like they were watching a close friend or a spirit filled holiday movie. She had the effect of being able to entertain while on stage, even if it were an acoustic set. In order to corporate her own style to the song without the use of the dance sound listeners were used to hearing, Izzy did the vocalization parts and the thunderous drums were replaced with simple drums as well as the guitar and keyboards.
Gray sky is above us and It pours all past hurts Wait ‘till the healing begin And your wounds will stop to hurt Let forgiveness wash your soul ‘Cause there’s so much life to loose While your expectations are low Life will pass in front of you
While breath is in your lungs Your voice can still be heard As your heart’s about to burst Let go off resentments Let the pain remember your heart can still be cured Let Love, show you don’t need to take any pill
Let the hope, light the way for your full recovery Let Love be for your heart the only remedy
Walking on thin ice, climbing Slowly One step at a time Aiming for the top, be sure Victory is a matter of time For all the joy to come It’s worth to start a fight Life’s not always a bed of roses But persistence brings the good vibes
While breath is in your lungs Your voice can still be heard As your heart’s about to burst Let go off resentments
Let the hope, light the way for your full recovery Let Love be for your heart the only remedy
Your full recovery I’m your remedy Your full recovery I’m your remedy
Let the hope, light the way for your full recovery Let Love be for your heart the only remedy
When the song finishes, she is again met with an applause, bowing her head, she smiles, going into the next song. As the light instrumental plays in the background, sort of an introduction to the song, Izzy takes a sip of water and then hands the water bottle to one of the ladies that was on the stage, accompanying her. She clears her throat, turning away from the mic and then sits back up straight. The familiar tune, 'Hide and Seek' is heard from the acoustic point of view while Izzy jumps right in to the lyrics. She taps her hand on her side while the other hand is gripping the microphone ever so lightly.
Stranded in the water Waiting to go ho-o-ome The time goes by I'm feeling all alone, Oh no-o-o
Stranded in the water Waiting to go ho-o-ome Not knowing when I'll go-o-o Hide and Seek in the dark
Playing with my life (Li-i-ife) Hoping that you'll still find the time Laying in the blind It still probably haunts your mind (Mi-i-i-ind!)
Stranded in the water Waiting to go ho-o-ome Stranded in the water Waiting to go ho-o-ome Stranded in the water Waiting to go ho-o-ome Stranded in the water (Stranded in the wa-a-a-ater) Waiting to go ho-o-ome Stranded in the water Hide and Seek in the dark
She makes it a point to really let her raw vocals show since they have improved a bit since the last time she performed. She had been obsessed with making sure since her voice had gotten noticeably lower, it didn't affect majority of her older songs and she could still perform them. When she belts out the high notes and holds them for a good amount of time, this really shows her degree of performing. She not only could dance and put on a show but she had vocals to back it up. It was a rarity for the young singer but she definitely took pride in it. When she finished, another smile crept on her face. "Thank you. That was one of my favorite songs and I love performing it. It's really simple yet powerful to me. It's like my next song I'm performing. I wrote it because, sometimes you just have to accept you can't be the best at everything. Nobody looks extremely perfect and striving to be that is just a waste of time. We should all just be happy with who we are because we're all amazing. it sounds cheesy and you've probably heard it a thousand times but I mean it, every single one of my fans are beautiful, inside and out."
Soon, the guitarist and keyboardist start to form a beat, similar to the one of 'Imperfections (Are The Best)' Her vocals are a little louder this time around as the song was a fairly motivational and confident one. Izzy herself was known to be very self-conscious of herself but revealed after singing this song and recording the record, she no longer felt like that anymore. In fact, upon turning 21, she had found her self-confidence and life got a little easier for her. She was no longer that shy but she was still reserved. She just was more open with her faults than before and was able to just laugh them off. The crowd took their turn in singing along with her, boosting her confidence even more. She was along with them in bopping their heads and dancing, really feeding off the energy of the crowd.
[Verse 1] You told me the last time I needed To look like a different girl I thought back and believed you But now I don't really think it's true Now here we are and you're begging me For another chance to let you have the key To my heart, you want that, but guess what?
[Chorus] Sick and tired of all your tests Don't wanna do this no more It's time that we took a rest We're always going to war If you can't handle my worse Then you don't deserve my best, my best Because I love all my imperfections My imperfections, my imperfections They are the best, my imperfections My imperfections, oh, yeah, yeah
[Verse 2] Now that we're finally over I feel like I can breathe again You told me about your standards And now you are the one in pain I saw the light and the problem too Spent all that time trying to hurt myself Not going back since I realized My problem was you
[Chorus] Sick and tired of all your tests Don't wanna do this no more It's time that we took a rest We're always going to war If you can't handle my worse Then you don't deserve my best, my best Because I love all my imperfections My imperfections, my imperfections They are the best If you can't handle my worse Then you don't deserve my best Because I love all my imperfections My imperfections, my imperfections Oh, yeah, yeah
[Bridge] Thought that I was being foolish Thought that I just wasn't enough But now I know that I am perfectly imperfect And now you aren't so tough, whoa-oh-whoa-oh-oh
[Chorus] Sick and tired of all your tests Don't wanna do this no more (Don't wanna do this no more) It's time that we took a rest We're always going to war (We're always going to war) If you can't handle my worse Then you don't deserve my best, my best Because I love all my imperfections My pride is stronger now Something that you'll never break I see the look in your eyes Knowing you've made a mistake If you can't handle my worse Then you don't deserve my best, my best Because I love all my imperfections My imperfections, my imperfections They are the best If you can't handle my worse Then you don't deserve my best, best Because I love all my imperfections My imperfections, my imperfections
You told me the last time I needed To look like a different girl
"Thank you." Izzy made an effort to thank them after each performance since she was just that kind of girl. She was sometimes too sweet but she never knew when it could be her last time on stage or even singing. "I love, love, love that song. It's quite possibly my favorite song I've ever recorded just because of the lyrics and how much I just want all my Izzybells to feel like that. So, I talked a lot about my music but I love a lot of music that's out there, that's not my own. I mean I wish I could have written some of these songs, they are so awesome. One song I've been carrying with me literally everywhere is the next song I'm gonna perform. I just wish I could have thought of something as awesome and clever like this one. Sing along with me if you know the words."
The next song to start playing is 'Hold On, We're Going Home' by Drake. It's no secret that Izzy has always had a thing for Hip Hop and R&B music but she rarely actually performed it live. There was the one case where she was filmed rapping along to 'Super Bass' by Nicki Minaj but she always thought she was being silly with it. Now that she had this newfound confidence, she absolutely was open to performing those types of songs for her fans. She knew that a lot of them shared her similar styles in music so she might as well share it. She lent her vocals for this song now as her light and airy, 'Ahh, Ahh's' and 'Ooh, Ooh's' to mimic Drake's vocals. Of course, the two had completely different voices but she tried her best and was pretty spot on. She had fun with this song as well, the crowd singing behind her. Their voices were loud if not as loud as hers which made for a nice sing-along. She enjoyed those types of moments with her fans because it showed their interest and made her feel completely at ease if she screwed up or anything. They assisted her with the bridge of the song, allowing her to play the main part but also letting them shine as well. She smiled throughout the whole song, it was hard not to. She always had a fun time with her fans because somehow, she had managed to get a mass number of fans who were almost like her, silly, goofy, and sweet.
Ooh, ooh Ah-ah, ahh Ooh, ooh Ah-ah, ahh
I got my eyes on you You're everything that I see I want your high love and emotion endlessly I can't get over you You left your mark on me I want your high love and emotion endlessly
Cause you're a good girl and you know it You act so different around me Cause you're a good girl and you know it I know exactly who you could be Just hold on we're going home Just hold on we're going home It's hard to do these things alone Just hold on we're going home (home)
I got my eyes on you You're everything that I see I want your high love and emotion endlessly I can't get over you You left your mark on me I want your high love and emotion endlessly
Cause you're a good girl and you know it (oh yeah) You act so different around me Cause you're a good girl and you know it I know exactly who you could be
So just hold on we're going home (going home) Just hold on we're going home (going home) It's hard to do these things alone (things alone) Just hold on we're going home (going home, going home)
You're the girl You're the one Gave you everything I love I think there's something, baby I think there's something, baby
You're the girl You're the one Gave you everything I love I think there's something, baby I think there's something, baby
Cause you're a good girl and you know it You act so different around me Cause you're a good girl and you know it I know exactly who you could be
Oh just hold on we're going home (going home) Just hold on we're going home (going home) It's hard to do these things alone (things alone) Just hold on we're going home (going home, going home) Hold on
"You guys were amazing, oh my goodness, I love that!" She smirked and giggled before taking another sip of water, handing the bottle back to the lady once again. "You're one of the best crowds ever, I hope you know that. Someone asked me about my outfit earlier, like they were staring at me and wondering what I was wearing. This is a cute flowy dress, it just makes me feel like a hippy and I feel very carefree in it. I wanted to do something different and also add the flowers, which I totally picked. I just wanted to feel good tonight and not come at you guys with a flashy outfit or anything like that. I like the stripped back feel of this and I wanted to make sure it was like we're a big family here. So my next song is my new single, 'Do What You Do'. I'm really happy with the feedback I've gotten so far with this song, it's mind blowingly good to me. It's an emotional song for me, personally, it's about me and something I've been through. You'll have to forgive me if I get emotional during this song, it's my first time performing it live and yeah. We'll see how this goes!" She laughs softly, the man beside her with the guitar starting on cue.
Izzy's voice takes a drastic turn from the previous songs. The song 'Do What You Do' was written by Izzy after the fall of her friendship with Nadia Berry and in general it's about all of the feelings she had been feeling from almost everyone around her. The song was sort of a therapeutic release in a way. It allowed her to finally get to say what she wanted and address all the rumors and thoughts of her. She was not a naive little girl like most people thought and it was kind of silly to think she was just sheltered from life. She also felt lots of guilt the way her friendship dispersed. It was something she thought about daily and she knew it would never be right between the two of them, at least not in this lifetime. Basically, the song was just a river of emotions from Izzy so in short, it was not easy for her to perform, especially being her first time performing it live. She had to make the effort though.
It was already apparent that the song would not be easy to get through as Izzy had already struggled to get through the first verse of the song. She tried to smile and wave it off, a few tears falling from her eyes. She paused and then looked out into the crowd, "I'm sorry." She said and then she took a moment to get herself together, continuing the song. Her voice was a little weary sounding as she tried to fight through it. She did not want that to be the last impression her fans had of her performing the song for the first time so she had to get it together. Over the course of a few minutes though, she seemed to perform through the song like a champion, getting encouragement from the crowd.
[Verse 1] We're not like how we used to be You're standing in my wounds so deep I lit the match to start the fire Now we're both confused if I'm the liar
I never questioned your words I trusted everything you said But when it got tough, didn't want no more then you fled
Sticking to just what I know It never got me far at all I dreamt of bigger things for us But landed on this lonely curse
Sticking to just what I know It never got me far at all I dreamt of bigger things for us But landed on this lonely curse
[Verse 2] We all will reap just what we sow But there are things we couldn't know You stare at me like I'm the enemy But is it so crazy for me?
I never questioned your words I trusted everything you said But when it got tough, didn't want no more then you fled
I'm sick of people telling me "Just be a good girl, you're way too sweet You couldn't understand the world Because you're just a sheltered girl"
I'm sick of people telling me "Just be a good girl, you're way too sweet You couldn't understand the world Because you're just a sheltered girl"
I'm in denial (I'm in denial) Stuck on repeat (Stuck on repeat) But now it's time (But now it's time) To think of me (To think of me)
Stuck on repeat (Stuck on repeat) Thinking of you (Thinking of you) I've been so cold for a long while (I'm in denial, I'm in denial) I am!
If this is your wish come true (If this is your wish come true) And if you've made up your own mind (And if you've made up your own mind) Then I won't ever bother you (Then I won't ever bother you) You go have fun and do what you do (You go have fun and do what you do)
If this is your wish come true (If this is your wish come true) And if you've made up your own mind (And if you've made up your own mind) Then I won't ever bother you (Then I won't ever bother you) You go have fun and do what you do (You go have fun and do what you do)
Go have fun and do what you do Go have fun and do what you do Go have fun and do what you do Go have fun and do what you do
After she is done, she is met with only an enthusiastic crowd. To them, it didn't matter that she halfway broke down during the song but that she continued on and showed emotion, an attachment to the lyrics. So many artists sing without even knowing what the lyrics were truly about but this proved Izzy was not like that. "Sorry guys, I'm a crier. I cry at everything. I cry at food." She laughed and then cleared her throat. "Okay, I'm done being a big baby. This last song I'm performing is going to be the next single from my EP. It's called 'Release' and it's about finally getting to that point in your life where you let go of all the negativity and bad things to find yourself. I feel like I've totally found myself now and I know who I am, what I like, all of that. I hope this song encourages all of you to feel that way too, so I hope you like this song as much as I do. This is an exclusive too! You guys are the first to hear this song, like out of all my fans. I'm super nervous now." She laughed and then gave the guitarist a cue.
Even though it was the acoustic version and not the official Pop version, she was going to perform it as if they were hearing it on the radio. It was more or less a return to Izzy's true Pop nature. The single was similar to 'DWYD' in that it was all about realizing who she was as a woman and being able to get it off her chest but it was nowhere near as sad as the other single. It had a head bopping beat to it and even though it was life changing or drastically different, there was definitely room for the single in the industry. The track catered to Izzy's vocals as well, her soft and crisp tone and catchy chorus captured the attention of anyone in the room. She had managed to take them on a ride throughout her mini concert. They had laughed, sang, cried, and now they were basically swaying and having a great time enjoying her presence. It was a feel good song. As soon as you heard it, it opened a new perspective for you and you felt like you had just come out from a war against yourself but now you held the victory.
[Verse 1] Here I go again, the same reflection Years never seem to wash All the happiness that I once had How could I dare complain?
But it's real now, so real now, everything closed with sin Do I inhale? Do I exhale? A fire raging from within
I lost a part of me To make room for new memories No longer holding on to the dream, of us so for once we're both free
[Chorus] I tried, so hard and all the time To just carry on with my life But every time something brings me back Now I, release your hold on me We've been all that we could be My senses tell me that you agree, yeah
Under your spell, you do it well but now it's time for my release Under your spell, you do it well but now it's time for my release Locked in this cell, I hid it well but now it's time for my release Locked in this cell, I hid it well but now it's time for my release
[Verse 2] Can't live a life like this, I wish I could dismiss Try to turn back time Don't wanna think of you, I try to resist I'll pretend that I'm fine
These tiny feelings, I just can't allow, I don't know where to begin I paint the smiles on but then I'm not sincere, I just cannot win
I tried, so hard and all the time (I tried) To just carry on with my life (My life) But every time something brings me back Now I, release your hold on me (Now I) We've been all that we could be My senses tell me that you agree, yeah (Ye-eah)
Under your spell, you do it well but now it's time for my release Under your spell, you do it well but now it's time for my release Locked in this cell, I hid it well but now it's time for my release Locked in this cell, I hid it well but now it's time for my release
"Thank you, you guys have been amazing! Thank you for coming out. I actually...would really like to do one more song by one of my favorite artists. I love this song so much so help me sing along. I know you guys know it too!"
[Verse 1] I know that love's got you running It's like a drug but you don't want it But I can promise to you It's nothing like, like before Don't write me off listen what I'm saying I know that you are tired of complaining Put down your guard, I'm playing all my cards tonight
[Chorus] Put your chips all in With me you'll always win And now the stakes are high Cus you're putting your heart on the line There is no shame in trying All the love I'm supplying The limit is the sky When you're putting your heart Putting your heart on the line
Oohh oohh Oohh oh oh oh oh oh Oohh oohh oohh
[Verse 2] They say love is a big gamble But I know with me you can handle Anything you want We're taking a chance on us You don't like that it can be risky L-O-V-E can be real tricky Put down your guard, I'm playing all my cards tonight
[Bridge] You said you're through, you said you're through But baby give it one more shot You said you're through, you said you're through But baby give it one more shot You said you're through, you said you're through But baby give it one more shot You said you're through, you said you're through You said you're through, you said you're through
[Chorus] Put your chips all in With me you'll always win And now the stakes are high Cus you're putting your heart on the line There is no shame in trying All the love I'm supplying The limit is the sky When you're putting your heart Putting your heart on the line
Put your chips all in With me you'll always win And now the stakes are high Cus you're putting your heart on the line There is no shame in trying All the love I'm supplying The limit is the sky When you're putting your heart Putting your heart on the line
Oohh oohh Oohh oh oh oh oh oh Oohh oohh oohh
You're putting your heart on the line Put your chips all in, with me you'll always win When you're putting your heart on the line
As Izzy finishes up, the crowd goes into another thunderous round of applause. They were treated to an evening with their favorite star and she made it very much worthwhile. Her sunny personality and warm aura had made it not a concert but a gathering of sorts. She even gave them a taste of her new music and made sure to make each one of them feel important for the night. Izzy definitely was going to bring in her new period of music with a high head but not a big one. Once she finished, she thanks them again and heads off the stage.
'Release' Sounds Like:
