Kestrel is almost shocked that Jason is talking to her. She can't get her feelings about him straight, and doesn't see this as the time or place to admit anything.

Cassie climbs out of bed eventually. In only her underwear and a tshirt, she leaves the room and walks outside. There, she sees Jason and Kestrel talking and bursts into tears again. She runs to the garden and lights a cigarette, sitting looking at the burning end.

Kestrel moves closer to Jason, starts petting his arm and stares deeply into his eyes.

Kestrel : You can't help who you love.

She pauses to breathe in and move away slightly. She starts speaking quickly and slips into her natural accent.

Kestrel : And if that's Cassie then, there ain't nothin' y'all can do. I figure it ain't what you wanna hear but it's love and it's the most darn messed up thing there ever was.

Outside, Cassie stands up. She runs away from Joey, and with her cigarette in her hand she runs into the house. Running past Jason and Kestrel and barging into the bathroom, she plunges the lit end into her forearm and screams as she holds it there.
