Remaining mid-tempo throughout, "Leather" hasn't got the typical song structure that builds into a soaring chorus, instead the verses are where the hardest beat lies, before moving into a light, airy chorus where Vanity almost whispers the lyrics in a confident, demanding tone. In the song, Vanity plays the role of a money hungry businessman waiting to create the next sex symbol in music, stealing away her innocence and purity by forcing her to have sex with him, and dressing her up in provocative outfits to sell her to the public. "We see it happen all the time, every other year we see a new girl on the pop scene, all innocent and cute, but as time goes by, the clothes start to come off... sex sells as they say," Vanity reveals. "On a more serious album, this was the one that I found the most fun and enjoyable, it remains one of my favourites just because it's so bold, it's got a lot of character, and the beat is fucking immense." It borderlines on ballad status, before entering the powerful chorus that will sure have fans singing along together fiercely at future Vanity concerts. Her echoed vocals flow over a strange, twitchy electronic beat mixed in with handclaps throughout the song's length, as Vanity sings about the end of her troubles, looking onto better times. Despite the deep message behind the song, Vanity made sure to keep the sound light, and still fairly cheerful, making sure the album was not going to end on a depressing note. "This is a track I have a lot of love for," Vanity said on the song. "I actually dedicate the middle eight to Steph, who I think has pretty much saved my life more than once. When I say 'we' in that part, I picture me and her together, looking away from our past and ready to tackle whatever else the world wants to throw at us.
