Sam chuckles a little, impressed. "Really now? And how does a registered nurse and a stand-up comedian meet?" he asks, leaning back in his seat, his elbow on the bar.

"Truly a love story for the ages," Sam says back with slight sarcasm to his voice, but in a friendly manner. "And what about you? Why don't you have a boyfriend back home?"

"Hmm." Is all Sam can say back when Evalyn answers him. "Well, sometimes it's better to get away for a little bit. I know people say 'Home is where the heart is,' but the heart becomes a dangerous thing when it's left in the same place for too long." He takes a long drink. "Besides, it sounds like the men back home are fucking stupid if they're cheating on you. Pardon my language."

"Well, I'll be sure to keep my cursing to a sexy minimum," Sam says back with a small laugh. "Don't say that. You're Evalyn Dixon, and you're the only Evalyn Dixon out there. That's special enough." He grimaces at how corny he just sounded and then shakes his head. "There's something special about you. Don't say that there isn't."

"Nah, sweetheart, see, that's where you're wrong: I'm the most unspecial person in the world," Sam says back with a wink and a laugh. He shakes his head. "Listen, since you're going to be here for a while, I think it's only right that you come over to my house tonight for dinner. My family is coming over, and I think you should meet them."

"Hey, don't be nervous. My family has never wronged or hurt a person in their lives," Sam says back with a chuckle. It had been a while since he had brought a girl to his family, and he was almost as nervous as he was sure Evalyn was. "They're good people, they'll like you."

Sam freezes a little. The 'girlfriend' title was one that he hated to give. In fact, any sort of title he was against. He never understood why people couldn't just be together and not give it a name, but he knew very well that that argument wouldn't go well with any woman he had ever dated. "I don't know, sweetheart. What do you want to tell them about that?" he asks.

"Yeah, I don't know, Evalyn," Sam says back in a moment of real seriousness. The moment they put that title on themselves as boyfriend and girlfriend, he knew he would really get attached, and that was the last thing he wanted right now. "I mean, I never know when you're going to leave New Mexico, and that's just not something I really want to put myself through. Maybe when you're more... settled. Then maybe we could call ourselves boyfriend and girlfriend? But for now, let's just have some fun."

Sam couldn't help but smile brightly back at Evalyn. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt her by saying that he didn't want to be really serious with her, so he was very glad that she understood where he was coming from. It was one of the few times that ever happened. "Thanks, sweetheart. You're a real doll," he says back, putting his hand on top of her's. "Yeah, I mean, you'd definitely be a great addition to this little down, but you don't want to get stuck her like the rest of us are. Maybe sometime soon I'll come see you in your town, and you can show me around."

Sam laughs a little bit. "So is that the plan? Stay here until next year?" he asks, leaning his elbow on the bar and his head in his hand. "I'm sure one day I'll see it. One day I'll see most places. But for now, I'm pretty content in little New Mexico."
