Abie Lena performs on Tonight Show with Jay Leno



JL: She has dominated the charts later this week with her new single, ‘You Make Me Die’, you all know who am I talking about, it’s Abie Lena ladies and gentleman.

Abie is behind her usual pedestal wearing a pink dress with a belt around her waist. The song begins to be played by Abie’s band right after Jay announced the performance, after seconds of the introduction melodies; Abie starts to sing the song’s first lines in the same tone of the studio version of this song. She looks happy instead of singing a depressive song, she keeps a smile on her face and on her eyes too. Probably because of the reacceptance of the crowd on the show which by the way was very warm and welcoming for Abie.

The first chorus of the song is reached and Abie raises her tone a little to hit the notes, but it all sounds very smooth and slow, Abie does not force her voice at all. She’s recognized by an amazing vocal performance, but this song does not have a high note like on her previous work, she does have falsettos, but Abie handle them easily giving such a strong confidence while she performs it.

Throughout the performance Abie doesn’t move much, she only moves her arm pointing to the camera or the crowd on the show, as she usually does on her performances. On the hook of the music all melodies are resumed to a single classical piano riff and Abie’s voice sounds haunting and lyrical, but as she goes singing the lines of the song the other melodies are added to the classical piano riff and the song goes back to its first sound.

Abie is closer to the end of the song, she keeps her voice controlled till the sings the final lines of it and so she can rest her voice and just wait till the melodies stop, it happens faster than the original version of the song, but it fit pretty well in the visuals of this performance, ending seconds after Abie had finished to sing the song. A loud round of applauses is received by Abie from the crowd. Jay comes walking to meet Abie and congratulate her for the performance.

‘People kind of compared me with her, but I totally disagree when they do so. She’s a talented young singer with a beautiful future ahead of her, I feel like she’s gonna achieve a lot of things this year and I love this song, specially the lyrics, she uses a lot of analogies and poetry on her verses, it’s my type of music.
I wonder, when she will comeback with new music, because she released two singles and then she didn’t release anything else. I hope people will understand her intentions and I also hope my fans will enjoy her as much as I do.’

‘I needed to play this song for you guys, because it’s the lovely Julia. I’ve taken part of the writing process of her album in three songs, so I heard this song before all of you. (Abie smiles sarcastically). I love rock and roll too, I might not appear a rock chick, I agree, but I do love rock and roll.
This song is a jam, it’s a hit, it has heavy riffs and a sexy hoarseness on Julia’s voice which raises the temperature of the room this song is being played. My band mates loves Julia’s new record, they play it over and over on rehearsals.’

8. Urban Knockouts – 4U Girls

‘I love girlbands even more than boybands. They’re so empowering and 4U Girls are very energetic and more mature. I felt in love with this song when it first came out, it is being played on my IPod over and over especially when I’m about to do something I’m not confident enough.’

‘Keeping up with the girlsband, but with a younger one, these five beautiful girls have powerful voices which caught my attention when they first released a song. The song is simple, no big deal, but there’s something on their voices that just gives me strength and confidence, they’re awesome singers. I think this year will be about the girlsband dominating the world. SYNCO will be one of them, you’ll see.’

‘Vanity is a chameleon singer, every new album we don’t know what to expect from her, and she’s been in this business for a long time now, Always pushing boundaries and making good music. This song wakes me up, makes me move and it’s fun and irreverent. My sister is a huge fan of Vanity and I kind of became a fan too because of her. There’s a beautiful message behind this song which I totally relate too.’

‘Kourtney is a sweetheart, she’s been so supportive since I came back that I fell in love of her music too. This single is kind of the same themes as my singles are. Love, relationships and all the struggles it brings to our lives. I also love the beat of this song, I wonder how when she’ll be releasing an album.

‘I met Andrea last year, she approached me to sing a song with her, but due to schedule conflicts and also my recovery I had to push the duet back for a future. I still looking forward to work with her someday, she’s a beautiful girl that has gone through a dark time when she first started, but I feel that now she’s looking good and fine, such a inspiring person to rely on.

Abie’s new album is schedule to be released next May 31st, which means that the album is done, ready to be printed and today Studio60 sent the album to be printed and distributed, so far so good, but after it was not in our possessions anymore, it’s almost impossible to control weather people will leak some of the songs or even the entire album, once it will be distributed to the whole world. So this afternoon, one of the songs of the album was leaked online, initially it was shared thought torrent links and minutes after it was posted on YouTube, despite Studio60 have the rights to order YouTube to delete the video, the song was already shared around the world, and now we just can’t avoid the fact that the song is already downloaded worldwidely.

Abie joined Studio60 representatives this afternoon to discuss the final actions they’ll take to promote the upcoming album and she was told about this leak. So Studio60 and Abie Lena decided to share the song on Abie’s official Vevo Account. The song will be available for legal download only on May31st, but until there, if you support Abie you’ll be able to listen the song before it is officially released. We don’t blame you fan, who downloaded the song,because once you’re fan, you do expect Abie’s album just like we expected it to be released, but we know that when the official album will be out you’ll be the one buying it legally.

It was written by Abie and her famous sister Magie Lena, lead singer from past girl band sensation ElectroDeath. With an overall subject, the song has simple structure which the mixture of pop rock rhythm with Brazilian old fashion genre MPB. Abie wrote other MPB songs on her first two albums, but she never really push hersef into the genre, so songs that she did before were more of homages for her born country. This track sounds like Abie’s first album ‘Love and Heartbreak’ song ‘I just want you to know’, if you didn't know it, you can download it on ITunes.

Some electronic sounds effect of ambient sounds are added in the introduction melody of the song, but the main sound is composed of slow-tempo drums, piano riffs and guitar. The beautiful lyrics talks about a couple who comes on terms of the end of their relationship, but they remain friends, the kind verses express the comprehension feeling, the couple share with each other and even though they’re ending their relationship, both wish the best for each other.

Abie’s vocals remain contained throughout the entire song, she sings it in a high thin lyrical tone , calmly and peaceful, her vocal range does not varies so much, she keeps the tone and the tempo of the song. This is a nature way of singing from Brazilian MPB artists, Abie said several times that she looks for Brazilian composers whenever she’s writing an album, it’s an obligation for her to add some of her root genres on every Album she releases. With this album is not different, in addition another four songs on it are mainly MPB inspired songs.

For this time, Abie invited Brazilian MPB singer composer, Arnaldo Antunes, to produce some songs for her, you can see his name in the credits for this song and also for the remaining four other songs in the album inspired by MPB music.
