Progressive Metal band The Nimrods have leaked a new track called Unforgiving Sodomite from their upcoming album Chronicles of a Heretic. The song is about an atheist who tells others about how religion can be a tool to manipulate and he is chastised by a priest who says that he is nothing but a liar yet the priest molests the young children at the church when they come for confession. The song is considered a masterpiece by the band for it's highlights on their instrumentation and vocals. It is also one of their longer songs at 18 minutes.

The song starts with a slow, repeated, arpeggio riff for about a minute before the drums and bass kick in playing a heavier version of the riff that is a little bit faster. The verse comes in with another slow arpeggio riff that turns into a heavy riff with complex chords.Jimmy is singing cleanly in the beginning of the verse which turns into his grungy rasp and then screaming as the song reaches the chorus which has a bunch of crazy tribal tom beats inspired by Danny Carey from Tool mixed in with some crashes and snare rolls.Another groovy arpeggio riff comes in during the chorus over a chord progression and a groovy bass line. After the chorus there is a slow groove with predominant bass in slow jazz solo form which has a few guitar notes with a chorus effect and more tribal toms on the drums, the keyboard also creates an atmosphere of mystery during this part that is almost scary. The next part is a bunch of heavy chords under a slide guitar heavy riff with heavy drum poly-rhythms and fast fills also inspired by Danny Carey like all of the drumming on this song.During this Jimmy brings in his trademark pitch changing growl for the majority with his vocal line ending with a scream and the song fading into a slow part again.During this part Jimmy recites the main character's lines as if they're poetry while there is an amazing bass line playing and some tribal toms with various percussion like a cowbell (yes a cowbell) and maracas.Near the end of the song there is a medium length guitar solo and then the song ends with a keyboard outro.

According to Jimmy him "The songs on the new album are a lot heavier because we're a lot angrier. This song is the most intense we've ever written and they're extremely hard to write too.We think this single will carry us for quite a while."

This song is proof that The Nimrods are helping carry the progressive scene.

Madison: Definitely not my type of music, but I find the song topic quite hilarious.. those Christians aren't as great as they'd like to think.

Jimmy:This song isn't supposed to be funny or satirical, it's supposed to be a statement regarding the oppression of Christianity and the hypocrisy in such a "sacred" religion.

Great work, once again guys. The song really speaks to me, and I am in awe of Kit's drumming, it sounds like he has four arms for gods sake. We have a song, A Farewell to Tyrants, that is musically close and definitely has the same type of lyrical direction, that you guys should check out. Likely to cause a riot, but since when is that a bad thing?

I'm rather happy with the work we've been doing. Honestly, this isn't even the best track from the album. Since the Grand Society material is almost completed (oops! DId I just say that?), I've had a lot of time and a lot of ideas and the guys of the Nimrods have been very welcoming. Now, obviously their material is theirs, but they were really open to some suggestions from me that surprised me. This is easily their most progressive release to date. And while they still haven't grabbed a more mature taken on the genre, they have a sort of youthful fury. And that's always been something they traded on heavily; the Black Gates, Herr Fische, Rest In Peace, the THeosophical Society, we all tend to focus on a more mature take on progressive music, which is its own thing. But the Nimrods have, and this is really cool to us... they've pioneered a sort of punky take on prog, where fury and energy are the biggest elements. And they've since inspired their own bands to follow in their wake. I'm very glad I got to work with them co-producing this album.

Loved the song guys, the theme is amazing.
Being an atheist and all.
I can see the diversity of instruments you bring to the songs and that's an amazing thing. Even a cowbell!
Can't wait for the album.
