The big thing with Hip Hop on the site in the last month got me back into listening to MF DOOM and A Tribe Called Quest.

Anyone else listen to Alternative Hip Hop.

It's really the only hip-hop I listen to, from De La Soul and Public Enemy through Dr. Octagon, Dälek and DOOM.

Regular Hip-Hop is what I imagine The Sunset Strip to be like. Full of STDs and Herpes but so damn appealing, every once in a while Mainstream Hip Hop makes a song that I rather like(Six Foot, Seven Foot for example plays on my love of Beetlejuice) but other than that I stick with Blacklicious, MF DOOM, Public Enemy(I like their combo with Anthrax), De La Soul, Eric-B and Rakim and A Tribe Called Quest.

Hip-hop really needs more folks like Dälek willing to push the musical boat out, instead of just the rapping and the gimmicks. It's a very cannibalistic genre that has long since been sampling itself rather than spreading the net a little further.

sht brah! I just listened to this song, and I cried a little inside. I was so ignorant about rap. I knew there were some good artists but I didn't think the genre as a whole was good. The original concept of rap sounds great, but doesn't work out well in the end....or so I thought until now. I should really dig deeper into the underground hip hop community. I truly didn't give it a chance.

DOOM's skits with samples of old Spider Man and Fantastic Four episodes really got me down with it. Things like Fig Life Bi-Carbonate:

Stuck to me with sheer comedic value(songs like "DEEP FRIED FRENZ" was the same way), but songs like:

Strange Ways are here for pure lyrical value. Whether it be the 9/11 Reference(When the smoke clears and you can the sky again/There will be the chopped off heads of Leviathan) or the constant of chiming in of "God"(My ways are strange! They'll never change!) DOOM and Lib can command your ear drums like no other.

One of the best alt hip hop artists of all time Bjork

Many find her voice annoying, but it think she has one of the most beautiful voices ever.

By the way, yes the following video features two robot female on female action. Lol its like porn for geeks. Directed by one of my favorite directors Chris Cunningham.

But the whole point of the video is to trust love lol

Agreed, wtf?
I like modern alt hip hop which isn't really the same but whatever. However I do looove De La Soul. GZA from the Wu Tang Clan has a solo album called Liquid Swords that's pretty alternative and I love it (it's supposed to be one of the best rap records of all time)

Shoot, meant to say song, not artist. The "All is full of love" song however is somewhat alternative hip-hop. You hear more of it towards the end of the song, the male vocals going "hey hey hey", plus the beat (which is alternative hip hop; trip-hop).

I like Gorillaz. Yeah, they're mainstream, so what? They're still great. Damon Albarn is a musical genius. He had a strong passion in all varieties of music, never limited himself to one specific genre, and he did well on all of his projects.

I don't care if Gorillaz are mainstream, Albarn is a fucking genius. Whether he be a part of Blur, Gorillaz or working with Hewlett(who was wonderful himself with Tank Girl!) on something like Journey to the West.

Ugh, you are a fuckwit. All musical genre have good & bad artists. Taking 50 Cent to represent an entire genre is moronic. Did you look at any of the songs mentioned in this thread? Because Ever Somber sure as shit ain't just talking with a beat. One of the most beautiful songs I know.

Started listening to a new group NHI [Non Human Intelligence], they're mainstream but in a good way I guess. Actually not all that mainstream when I think about it.

Started listening to Travis Porter too, one of the few fully mainstream groups that have become so catchy that I can't stop listening to them.
