’Riot! In The Boulevard’ is an American alt-rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed as a high school band in 2008. The band consists of Amy Meyer (Lead Vocals, Keyboards), Jason Greenberg (Bass Guitar), Justin Mullen (Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals) and Nathan Mullen (Drums, Percussion). They all went to the same school and formed a close friendship which eventually led to the formation of the band.
As an alt-rock band, Riot! In The Boulevard draw influences primarily from 70’s and 80’s Classic Rock as well as modern rock bands. They’re primary influences are cited as U2, The Ramones, The Clash, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Pretenders and The Cure. They are also heavily influenced by modern rock bands like, The White Stripes, The Strokes, Dead Roses, Suburban Sunrise and Fathers Of Fury.

2008-2010 - Formation
In 2008 at the age of 15, Amy Meyer was a high school student living in Las Vegas, Nevada, she wasn’t particularly popular in school, “I never got heavily bullied but I was just sort of invisible to most people at school.” She became friends with Jason Greenberg at age eight and she became friends with Nathan and Justin Mullen at age eleven. Which eventually led to the formation of Riot!
Each member had all separately learnt music instruments in their spare time but it wasn’t until 2008 when Amy decided to form a band that they decided to think about a career in music. They would spend almost all of their spare time in Jason’s parents garage practising and writing songs together, it became evident that Amy was the most talented songwriter out of the band but they wrote the majority of the songs together, during this time they claim to have at least 20 songs written and spent the summer of 2009 and 2010 performing in shopping malls, café’s and teen dances.
During the period between 2008 and 2010 they crafted their live performances and quickly became comfortable with performing live, however they have never performed in front of more than 200 people.

2011-present - Breakthrough
On March 4th, Riot! Became part of the Underground.com, a scheme which helps unsigned acts get record deals and on March 13th, they were offered a two album record deal with the indie label Nomad Records which they duly accepted. The announced that they would begin recording an E.P on 15th March and expected the E.P to be completed within a week.
They also confirmed that they would release a debut single, entitled Sweet Little Fantasys on 20th March 2011, the single peaked at number 2 on the Top20 Airplay Charts. Their first major televised performance was a at the 21st IMA's where they performed Sweet Little Fantasy's. They‘re first major tour is in support of Fathers Of Fury beginning on April 30th and ending on June 1st. They announced their second single All The Non Believers on 6th May 2011 which was a moderate chart hit briefly before the single jumped from #20 up to #1 on the Top20 Airplay Charts following the bands announcement of their debut album and their televised performance at the Field Trip Festival. They are set to tour alongside bands such as Suburban Sunrise, Big Light Show and Reported Failure. On August 7, 2011 the band released their third single Long Distance Conversations, the single peaked at number #1, continuing on from the success of previous singles, Sweet Little Fantasy's and All The Non-Believers. On September 25, the band released their fourth single Something Old, Something New which debuted at number #1 on the Top20 Airplay Charts, making it three number #1 singles in succession for the teenage rock band.

Justin: Sadly we can't though, we've been asked to tour in support of Fathers Of Fury. Maybe some other time though.

So Riot! In The Boulevard are a very young band, attempting to make a career in music. What made you decide to form a band together?
Amy: I was a total loser. I came to school wearing AC/DC and Guns N Roses shirts. It was my only option. (laughs) Nah, in all honesty, I’ve had an obsession with performing since I can remember and this was the natural thing for me to do. I never saw myself doing a nine to five. But who knows if we’ll be able to make a career out of this.
Justin: Amy asked me to be in the band, she was the quirky chick with the nose ring and stuff. I couldn’t say no to that could I?
Amy: Sometimes I wish you had. (laughs)

So what are your plans?
Jason: I’m not all too sure about that, none of us are. We got a friend to video us rehearsing a song we wrote and put it on youtube and it seemed to have caught some attention. We’re still unsigned and we don’t expect offers at all, we don’t want things handed on a plate for us, we wanna work for it and the only way to do that is through touring. But as of now we really don’t know what the future holds.
Amy: It’s still unwritten right now.

You were asked to tour in support of Fathers Of Fury recently, what was that like?
Nathan: Incredible!
Amy: A more dignified answer would be, we were so surprised to be asked. We never expected anything to happen too quickly, Fathers Of Fury are pretty big influences on us and I guess Jack (Straw) saw our video and I guess he liked the look of us.

You say Fathers Of Fury are big influences, what are you primary influences, what can we expect from you?
Justin: We like to mix things up. We can play heavy rock numbers and that’s generally our niche but from time to time we like to change things up and we’ll do some softer acoustic stuff.
Amy: I think Rock music has so many levels, you’ve got the likes of Fathers Of Fury, Suburban Sunrise and Dead Roses in that similar type which I think is where we would generally fit in, that kind of Mod-Rock sound. Then you’ve got the likes of Reckoner and Infinite who are sort of in that artsy alt-rock mould which I think we could dip into, then heavier stuff like, Mind and The Verdict Is Vengeance. I think we can dip into those three moulds and maybe put a bit of a different spin on things, but we’ll see what happens.
Jason: I think we can compete with the pop market too though although we will be aiming to keep true to the rock field, I think Stacey Walton, Infinite, Fathers Of Fury and Suburban Sunrise have all managed to be commercially succesfull without compromising themselves creatively.

You’re a very young band, you only finished school last summer, how different is this world compared to school life?
Amy: I don’t think we’re part of this world yet, certainly not enough to have a valid opinion of it.
Nathan: School life sucked.
Amy: It was always tough to blend in, I always had to try to keep the craziness to a minimum. Hopefully we can find ourselves in the music industry and I don’t want us to just blend in. I want us to be like a black spot on a white wall.
Nathan: She still struggles to control her craziness. (laughs)

And what are the album plans?
Jason: At the moment that’s not even in our thoughts.
Amy: Of course we have ideas and songs that we’ve written and stuff but it’s very much on the back burner for now.
Justin: I think we probably won’t be thinking about that kind of thing, at least not until we’re signed. If we get signed.

And right now what are your options?
Amy: We’re part of the Underground thing right now. That was always the obvious option for us, because we can’t afford to make a living from music right now but they look after the artists.
Jason: I think it’s a great thing, they’re good at helping unsigned bands get record deals.

Is there any other ways into the music industry you feel you could have tried?
Amy: I think touring extensively is the best way of getting your name out there, but if All Around The World was still going on then that would have been a definite option for us to take part in. It’s a pretty great springboard for a career. But I think the Underground has been an incredible addition for new upcoming acts.
Nathan: It’s our best option.

SONG LYRICS

Sweet Little Fantasy's
She Wears Her Hair Down Low
She Walks The Streets Once More
She Writes Up Fairytales In Her Head
It’s Tragic, Because They Always End Up Dead

Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Coming Away With Me
Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Coming Away With Me

They Said, Her Face Could Launch A Thousand Ships
The Guys Were, Desperate To Be Kissing … Her Red Lips
Instead She Walks The Streets At Night, Just Looking For Tips
Show Some Skin Once More, And We’ll Call It Quits

Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Are Coming Away With Me
Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Are Coming Away With Me

Some Girls Look For Love
Some Girls Search For Luck
Some Girls Play Hard To Get
Some Girls Are An Easy … {Wait A Minute}

She’s Got …
Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Coming Away With Me
Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Coming Away With Me

It’s All Just A Game They Play
They’ll Play It Until, Your Old And Grey
They’ll Mess With Your Head Tonight
They’ll Scream Louder, “HOLD ON TIGHT!!!”

Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Coming Away With Me
Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Coming Away With Me

But Tonight Your All Alone
Your Castle’s Turned Into A Home
Cracks In The Fabrics, And Tears In Your Beers
You’d Think You’d Have Learnt This Time
That Bitch Ain’t Worth A Dime

Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Coming Away With Me
Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Coming Away With Me

We're currently unsigned, so any interested labels, please contact us, we don't have any management yet so any help we can get will be appreciated. if you want to see us live then tour dates are on our homepage, we're supporting Fathers Of Fury. - Amy Meyer

Scott: I don't know about being a manager but if you need a mentor who will basically do a manger's job then Scott Simpson of Cartographer is here for you.

Amy: That would be great thanks. We're pretty new to this so any help we can get will be appreciated.

Scott: Alright, that's cool. I've been in this business for a long time, albeit behind the scenes and just recently I'm getting to the top of my game but here's rule number one of being in the music business: Demos determine your first year. I suppose the smart thing to do would be to make a demo that I could pass around in some circles.

Amy: Yeah, we've got some songs but we need to find a place to record them, we're not exactly breaking even financially.

Scott: How about this, I'll buy you guys a couple o' plane tickets to England. You use 'em to get down here by the 17th and you can use our slate to record what you can over here at The Rever.
