POSTSCRIPT

UserPostedImage

Postscript is a 23 year old indie/grime/electornic artist from Fullam, London who has slowly began to break into the mainstream music industry after spending two years as a huge underground grime artist. Postscript has since released his debut album Welcome To The World, which gained comments from a variety of musicans commenting on the clever use of sampling and the differeces between the songs featuring on the album as well as spawning two top 20 singles (Magic Spells, & Monster), and one single which entered the top 3 (Lower With Clouds), all released via Monk On Fire Music. Lower With Clouds was nominated for Best Single at the Chaos Awards III show.

He is most known for featuring on the hit single 'Fucked' by drum and bass duo Buzz & Hype, in which top the charts for weeks on end, and is currently the 4th most downloaded single on The Digital Downloads Charts: All-Time Top 20. He has also featured on the song Why Leave? from Aaron Marks' debut album Peace, Love And Other Trending Topics.

On October 21st 2011, Postscript's record label Monk On Fire Music announced that the label would be closing down, causing Postscript to decide to go on a indefinite hiatus from music, along with having to deal with alcohol issues. In January 2012 he announced that he would be slowly returning to music, and had starting working on some rough ideas for a future release.

MattY has released a statement on the signing of Postscript to Monk On Fire Music

Quote:
Postscript is one of the most promising grime artists i have seen around, and i am so happy that he has decided to join MOFM. I can't wait for him to get some music out there for all of you to listen too! And if you want to hear some of his earlier stuff just have a look at the mixtape he released in 2009. Some real quality stuff!

So basically, I'm now signed to Monk on Fire Music and working on material for my first album. It's not going to be a mixtape, but a proper album, hopefully featuring some pretty different vocalists and artists who'll give it an alternative look from what the majority of people would imagine this album to be like. So far I've got a few ideas down, but nothing is certain. Also for anyone who was curious or hasn't been on Lights Go Red's website to see, I am going to be featuring on one of the tracks on their debut album on a song titled Good As Gold. I'll post some demo's of my song ideas on here soon.

I've been in the studio working on some rough ideas and starting some beats, it's been pretty good so far and I reckon I have about 3 - 4 songs that could be recorded over the next few days. If anyone isn't aware I'll be featuring on Millie Little's debut album, on the track Reality Check, which is going to be great. Within the next week or so, I'll announce where I'll be playing my first gig since being signed by Monk on Fire Music, it'll be worth coming to, 'cause I'm gunna be dropping a few new tracks for the people who come.

For all those who aren't aware, Lights Go Red have broken up, meaning that Good As Gold will not be happening anymore, but there will be a replacement for this track which could be my first single ever. I'll be dropping more information about this idea that me and a certain someone have been talking about since the sad announcement of Lights Go Red earlier and if everything goes to plan then it will be 100 times better than the previous idea. In other news my first gig since being signed will be at Chinnerys in Southend, Essex, on January 25th. I'll only be doing around 4-5 songs but it'll be nice to have some support I guess.

Chinnery's Gig summary:
Welcome To The World
- A grime influenced song containing many influences from the up and coming "indie" music scene, containing 70% sung vocals, and 30% rapped. Lyrically it is about joining the music industry and how hard it is to get noticed due to ignorance of record label owners. [New Song]

About To Lose It
- A grime song with electronic influences, there is no sung vocals and the vocals are rapped at a fast speed. The lyrics are about attempting to win a girl, and coming close to failing. [Very Important People Mixtape]

Night And Day
- An instrumental song made by Postscript, there is a possiblity that it could have vocals recorded over it in the future. Heavily influenced by The Prodigy's song Fighter Beat. [New Song]

Over
- Pure grime song, no sung vocals are featured throught the song. The speed of the rapping is fairly quick, but slows towards the end of the song and gradually become spoken. The lyrics of the song are about a relationship ending and both people involved trying to stop it from happening but failing. [Very Important People Mixtape]

Shot Yourself
- Electronic song with grime and indie vocal work used. There is only sung vocals during the chorus of the song, with the rest being rapped at a mid-pace. There is an extremely long keyboard loop used in the intro and outro of the song. The lyrics of the song are about self regret and how he's "shot himself in the foot" [New Song]

OCC: Haven't got much time to RP right now, so this is just a summary of the songs from the gig. Sorry it's so bad!

The reason that I've not been very active on the site is because I've been spending all my time writing for my album. I've finally got all the songs ready to be recorded, and will be recording them next week. So stoked to getting some good quality tunes out. There's a good mix between electronica, grime, dubstep, and indie throughout the album to please everyone and just enjoy the recording and performance of the album. I'll be sure to tell everyone some extra details next week, but for now you've all gotta wait. There will be a song featuring another artist, but I'm not going to be letting them details for a while.

I've got a fair bit of news for everyone who is interested in my album. The album is due to be produced by MattY and Kieran Marks, I can't wait to start working with the two of them and I'm sure a brilliant album will be created with their help. I've got a title for the album now, as well as song titles for every song on the album. Been working on some ideas of b-sides for singles as well, everything is looking up to be honest, but I still don't think that I'll give either of those details away yet, that's no fun. Also rumours are going around that I'll be featuring on one of the songs from MattY's up and coming album, and I'm proud to say that I will be, but I can't tell you what song, label issues ect, so more surprises for everyone I guess.

Over the past two weeks or so I've recorded a few songs, some might be on the album, others are just an experiment of ideas I have along with some friends. Needless to say that progress has not been as quick as I expected but we are slowly and surely creating what I would personally call a master-piece. I'm hoping to have finished recording all the tracks for the album before the end of March, and then to have my first single out in early April. I can't promise anything though, I apologise in advance for the lack of updates from me, I will be more focused from now on.

Magic Spells (With Marksii);
A loud booming high-pitched club based keyboard beat opens the song before going into a faster and less noise based bass sound, with Postscripts’ vocals then starting. The beat swaps between the starting beat and the verse beat, as do the vocals, which there are little of. Throughout the majority of the song the sung vocals from Postscript are distorted to make them sound distant, and electrified, giving a robotic effect to the song. Towards the end there is an increase in the speed of the keyboard, and finishes with a sample from Harry Potter, with Lord Voldermort sceaming the spell Crucio. There is no real theme behind the lyrics, Postscript just raps and sings about some sort of drug trip (most likely LSD) and how he suddenly sees spells and bright colours all around him.

I Have To Return Some Video Tapes (With Marksii) [Breathe Carolina Cover];
An acoustic guitar starts the song with clean vocals from both Postscript and Marksii, when suddenly Marksii screams with a heavy electric beat replacing the guitar, there is a mixed use of screamed vocals and clean vocals, with clean vocals being provided and turned into more of a rap than in the original song by Postscript. The keyboards are supported by a distorted guitar which is only heard in the background, alongwith some standard hip-hop electronic drum beats. There is a section towards the end of the song in which the acoustic guitar introduction is repeated and then swapped with a new and slower keyboard loop with lower tones, before there is an outro of the keyboard beat that has been used throughout the song.

Magic Spells (With Marksii) [Instrumental];
An instrumental version of the song Magic Spells, giving the opportunity for remixes/covers from fans easily, as well as showing the complexity of the music that was produced making the song.

It's been an eventful week for me that's for sure. I released my debut single Magic Spells, in which the music is produced by my good friend Marksii (Kieran Marks), it then charted at 7th in the Top 20 and I've also made an offical Twitter account so you can keep up to date with everything that I do (mostly get drunk, make music and tour), but i'll be announcing my next single from the album on it, so follow me if you want to know before everyone else.

I've still got no idea when Welcome To The World will be released, but I'm hoping that it'll be before May 1st. I'm just adding the final parts to the songs so that they are catchy as hell, and will be worth the wait that I've given you. I also want to tour soon. I'm getting bored of making this album, and want to get out and see you guys. Hopefully plans will be made by my agent soon, otherwise i've got my own plans.

Monster
A club like electronic beat alongside a fast use of snare and bass drum is used to open the song, before changing to more of a bass beat during the verses of the song. The club beat and bass beat are mixed together during the chorus of the song, at the end of the song there is a heavy use of bass guitar and the slight use of electric guitar, replacing the bass beat from a synthesizer. All of this mixed together gives the song a mix of a club anthem and an “indie” alternative rock song. The vocals of the song are all sung vocals, with a clean tone, and all are provided by Postscript.

Monster (Postscript's Dubstep Remix)
Postscript’s own remix of the song Monster removes the alternative rock edge of the song, and adds more bass throughout the song creating a powerful dubstep sound. The vocals have also been removed and only the main elements of each verse and the chorus are kept to give a greater feel before the “wobbb” of the dubstep drop.

Next Hype (Chase & Status featuring Tempa T cover)
Postscript’s attempt of covering the aggressive nature of Tempa T’s vocals can be seen as comical before listening, but Postscript’s fast vocals rather than aggressive along with the repeated simplistic guitar and fast drum beats and whirling electronic loops the song sounds better than the original.

Played my last date of the tour earlier, it's safe to say that it was a brilliant time spent with some brilliant people, and I can't wait to tour again soon. If you didn't see my Tweet earlier, then you're currently unaware that Welcome To The World is going to be released via iTunes and all good record stores Saturday 5th June 2011. I've been waiting for everyone to hear the album for so long, and those of you who came out to see me got a taste of some of the newer more dance based tracks, and you all seemed to love it which is good.

My second single Monster charted in the Digital Rock Songs Charts (I'm not going to complain about it, I've got enough rock elements within my music for it to count), at number 10 which is amazing, I've sold 65,000 copies of the single so far which is amazing.

A review of the single has said;

Rating: 4/5 A nicely put together track from a relatively unknown artist; the B-sides are also very good. Definately worth a listen!

Everyone in America get ready for Postscript 'cause I'm coming for you! Although it's not a headlining tour, you American's get to see me supporting Lily along with When Darkness Falls and Fathers Of Fury. Am I out of place on the tour? Maybe, but hopefully everyone that makes it to a show will enjoy me as much (hopefully more) than the other acts. The tour dates are listed at the end of this post. Check 'em out and come see me (and the others).

I've also chosen the last single that'll be released from Welcome To The World (out 5th June, don't forget!) but I'm not gonna tell you yet 'cause I'm going to wait for everyone to try and guess it when they listen to the album. If anyone gets it i'll give them something... or maybe I won't, I don't care I'm just hyped that everything is starting to get moving.

A lot of stuff has gone on since my last update on the site (sorry about that). So Welcome To The World has been released, and people seem to be enjoying it and it's doing good sales wise which has put me in the best mood I think I've ever been in. Tonight I'm performing my first ever festival show at Field Trip Festival, so come check me out, it'd mean a lot to me. I've also been working with the drum and bass/electro duo Buzz & Hype on there new single which is streaming now, I'll also add it to the bottom of this post for those who haven't seen it. So yeah, busy busy busy. I'm gonna relax after tonight though, maybe take a quick holiday away then do some club DJ nights with a special friend of mine. I'll see what happens.

Man is pretty screwed when the alcohols around,
Things get pretty crazy when the music sounds.
You girls don't have to be pretty,
Just as long as you're willing;
Things get pretty mad when we're alone,
By the end of the night girls on my bone.

I’ll give you some head shots,
You call out the best shot
Stroke your camera to the left.
Do me rampant like the rest;
Give me hell, give me sweat,
Give me hickey in the neck
In the corner of a city,
Oh no wonder we’re so skinny
I love us getting naughty,
I will call you paparazzi

Sweaty Night Sweaty Night Oh
Sweaty Nights Oh oh
Sweaty Nights

Push and pull,
Toss and turn,
Got a mouthful,
Now I burn,
Holding tight,
Kiss your neck,
Feeling right,
No need for a cheque.

I’ll give you some head shots,
You call out the best shot
Stroke your camera to the left.
Do me rampant like the rest;
Give me hell, give me sweat,
Give me hickey in the neck
In the corner of a city,
Oh no wonder we’re so skinny
I love us getting naughty,
I will call you paparazzi

Screwed
Me and You
Screwed
Me not You

Sweaty Night Sweaty Night Oh
Sweaty Nights Oh oh
Sweaty Nights

Description

This song includes Stephanie Fierce’s sampled vocals from the song ‘Sweaty Nights’ from her album ‘Diary of a Pop Sinner’. It starts off with a banjo like sound playing and then Fierce’s voice is played over the top. The banjo sound then switches to a far more electronic sound; it eventually becomes a full on electric guitar sound. Stephanie’s voice is high and fast; the vocals have been sped up for this song.
The drums kick in as PostScript starts to rap the verse; his rapping isn’t amazingly quick, but his flow keeps to the rhythm and the beat of the song. This helps to make show off his vocals, as it is almost as if he is rapping and singing at the same time.
As PostScript finishes his verse, Stephanie Fierce’s vocals are played again. The bass gets faster and the drums harder. On the last word of every line, PostScript can be heard to be emphasising what Stephanie is saying; giving the idea that it is a real duet, rather than just a sample.
The music slows for PostScript’s next verse, it is slow, and there is a slow chiming on the symbols on the drums, then the drums speed right up again on the last line; leading back into the sampled chorus of ‘Sweaty Nights.
After the chorus, the song drops, and goes Dubstep. The noises of the bass make the song go crazy as PostScript speaks his last few lines, which leads into a final Stephanie Fierce pre-chorus. This pre-chorus section is ‘sang’ over no other music; and then the song stops.

Italics is Stephanie Fierce
