I would say it's more of a sound because there are bands that aren't completely Djent sounding and only sound Djent in parts (Periphery) and then bands who are Djent most of the time (Meshuggah who basically invented it). Basically though I'd say Djent is just progressive metal/ mathcore in vein of Meshuggah. I wouldn't call it an entire genre not to mention it's named after a sound. |

I agree, a majority of the bands are just Meshuggah rip offs. There are a lot who are pretty good though, if they are so called "djent". You've got cool bands like TesseracT, Cloudkicker, Xerath, Skyharbor... Just a shame only a few of these bands do their own thing. As for the name, it should probably just be categorised underneath Prog Metal or Mathcore. |

Djent is such a dreadful name for a fucking genre of music. Or sub-genre. Whatevs. Anyway yeah, one Meshuggah is plenty. More than that is overkill. |
