Daniel: Well the Miss Vanity tour is going pretty well. I don't take a moment for granted, being able to perform in front of that many people and opening for one of the biggest artists out right now. People are surprisingly receiving me very well, despite the big musical difference. Plus Miss vanity is pretty cool to kick with after and before the show.
I guess I can re-announce that my next album which is titled "Tearing Up and a Little Bit of Fun" will be released sometime this year. I named the record pretty quickly, and I really like the new direction that I'm heading with this music. My first album, leaned more to the experimental, psychedelic pop. "Rio" was more of a rock record and now I just want to be versatile with what I do. No limitations. But I want to do something people like. Something fun. First single will be a out in May. Sorry for the limited details....
What ever happened to "Epic Fail'?
Ironic, is all I'm going to say for now. No...... I actually broke my computer and lost everything. All the recordings. That's what happens when you try do a record on your own, inside a cave.......
Does it feel awkward to be going back and forth with record labels? You recently announced your departure with Junction Records and announced you'll be going back with Hot Eye Records.
Daniel: I basically work for both labels now. I'm a songwriter for Junction Records and I'm a musician/artist for Hot Eye Records. I think its a great combination of two things I love doing, so it works out pretty well. There's no beef going on, if that's what you meant.
We can all agree that that "Rio" was left in the middle of nowhere. Were you disappointed with the album's commercial response?
Daniel: That was kind of harsh.... I don't really think "Rio" was meant to be a BIG record. Junction Records, which is more of a pop oriented label, projected the record a bit out of place. Which is not their fault. So I'm not even surprised it didn't go BIG. I clearly stated that I'm not here for the record sales. I'm just here to make music. People who did listen to it, loved it, which is what matter to me. With the album, I just sort of let people grow towards it and left it alone. It was "I" who decided to do that, not Junction. So it's not their fault period. I just honestly think its one of those albums that people will learn to appreciate in the near future. Which I think is pretty cool.
I think the album had great potential. You had some good written songs like "Love Apparatus", "Off To Eris" and "Cruel Stain". Why leave all these great songs behind?
Daniel: Well they are there still......just not THERE.
What artists/bands are you into right now?
I'm into Moby at the moment, Just because his latest is soothing my soul at the moment. I sit back and listen to some Bjork, Faithless, Cut City, Alpinestars from time to time and definitely enjoying some Reported Failure and Glamazon. MGMT always. Errrrr....... Radio Head as well. Oh! And Kanye West!
