"Lets dig the old website back up shall we. The "In the Studio Blogs" have been going a while now and since we are not actually in the studio anymore we will be putting everything on here from now on again. Here is a quick reminder of whats been going on in case you missed it...

Touring. It was the major facet of any bands to-do list. Indeed, touring was what any band would base their schedule around as it was the primary way to get to the fans. The Rockers have been on many tours over their career, 14 world tours by Johns count. Still, this one made him nervous. The first gig was in the bands home town, St. Louis Missouri. They had always started and ended their tours here. This tour would be no different.

But I'm older now, he thought.

"Rob I don't know if I can go through with this." John had a gloss over his eyes as they entered the bus.

"Shit man, if you are going to start that again I'm staying home."

John smiled vaguely. Robert had been a good friend for years and it was his hard-ass but soft-heart attitude that John had always liked. He picked up his suitcases and loaded them into the luggage area. The bus was old, most people would scoff at the idea of using such a vehicle as their means of transportation. But the guys had been using this one for years and it had bits of the past all around. The couch on the drivers side still had stains from when Joey had randomly passed out while walking down the hall.

God, that was 20 years ago...

The miles and the journey had always been something special for John and Joey. The brothers spent most of their time in the two front seats taking turns driving. The radio was always on and usually always loud. Nobody complained as Joey changed the channel after a Stephanie Fierce song came on. That's how this trip is different...she's not here....

The fields of corn and skyscrapers barely phased any of them now. It was all just part of a world they wanted no part in. The gigs were what mattered and as they exited the highway onto a dodgy road leading to an even dodgier hotel Gary only smiled.

"You know I think we've been here before."

he joked as they saw the familiar sight of the arch in the distance.

"Once or twice..."

John said quietly as he lingered deep in thought.

The arena was no different than it had been a few years ago, spare a few different graffiti paintings on the outer walls. They passed it as they pulled into the hotel parking lot. The hotel was actually nicer than they expected and definitely a lot taller. The would be on the second to highest floor tonight, in a room reserved for celebrities. They all laughed as they realized they still don't think of themselves that way and remembered how they expected a run-down mess of a room. They would sleep easy that night and no worries would trouble their minds. But tomorrow they would begin rehearsing, and thats where the worries come.

"Hey guys, rehearsing in St. Louis tonight. We are basing the entire tour on these next few days of rehearsal here. The first show is Thursday too...hope to see some of you guys out there. We will be arranging a set list over the next few days too. The band wants to make sure we get the songs that you want to hear in the show but we also want to introduce some stuff you maybe dont remember...maybe even have never heard before.

Having a great time with the guys. Joey is cracking jokes and John is having fun acting like the straight-man. Funny considering I had to hold both of them together years ago. Hahah, Robert just dropped his guitar off the stage. Hope thats not a sign of things to come! Guess I should go beat on my own instruments a while.

See ya guys,
George Francis"

Tomorrow is a day of possible triumph...and possible failure. We will be walking into that stadium as men, but we have the chance to leave as legends. I think we have created the perfect show and to debut it tomorrow in St. Louis is going to be a heck of an experience. I think we will leave everyone with a special memory to look back on throughout their lives, including ourselves. This tour is going to be huge, this show is going to be huge. We are but grains of sand riding the journey of the wind.

Keep on Rocking,
John

The Arena in St. Louis has always been one of the best to play in. I remember when we walked out there over 15 years ago for the first time...we had spent so much time playing the bars and night clubs for so long...I had almost forgotten what a room that wasnt covered in alcohol and piss smelt like. This place was nice. The air was clean, and the room was huge. We would be playing for thousands of people, not just 40 or 50. We walked out there and let the music sweat out of our pores.

Robert had re-written some of the songs to fit in better with the set list but we were all skeptical if this was going to pan out how we had been planning for so long. We wanted the perfect gig and now that we stood behind those big black curtains...we didnt even know if we could remember the way the song went. I'm standing behind those curtains again now as I write this blog as a last second update on whats going on. I want you all to know that I go out there to entertain you, but more so to entertain me. They are calling our names at this minute...see you when the show is over...haha, its never truly over.

Keep on Rocking,
The Rockers

The following is a summary and review of the concert by a local newspaper...

"The Rockers are a legendary group who are known throughout the world. Its hard to remember that they started their rise to fame and glory right here in the Gateway to the West. Like outlaws of the west, they have made their career out of doing what they want and bringing the fans along for the ride. This concert would be my first time seeing the band and admittedly it was not an assignment I particularly wanted but like any good journalist I packed my brief case and was on my way downtown.

The show was sold out, every seat had been full. The lights in the arena were bright up until the show began. It was then that everything went black and a sole purple spotlight shined down to the stage. It pointed out a black curtain in the right corner of the stage, and just as my eyes focused said curtain rose up revealing the band. Front-man Johnny Johnson stood high upon a pedestal with one arm raised to the sky as he looked out among the crowd. Seemingly pleased he looked back at the band and counted down to when the first notes would fill the stadium.

Fittingly, the opening number was "Cut Loose". A song from their "Break Free" album it was perfect for the opening as it propelled the crowd and the band into the right mood. The song is a powerful tune with some un-apologetically cliche lyrics. When the song was released the band said it was the type of song they had been writing for years and its only purpose was to bring the rock back to The Rockers. It did just that and their performance tonight was no less than stunning. Johnson stood high on his pedestal as it floated over the stage. Winking and pointing down to various crowd members he smiled as he burst out the long notes. For a man in his forties and having had a heart attack a few years ago it amazes me he can belt out the way he does still.

Lead guitarist Robert Kain takes center stage as the solo approaches and he lets his fingers fly over the fret-board. Nothing quite prepares you for a Rockers gig when you dont know much about the band beforehand. I had expected a cheesefest of old men wearing makeup and strange clothes but that was the furthest from the truth. Kain was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans with his semi-long hair hanging over his eyes as seemed to be humming the solo as he played it. Johnson was wearing a black button-up with black jeans and his brother Joey was wearing the same. Drummer George Francis was in a red t-shirt and shorts. These were regular guys doing what they loved and the would only become more obvious through the night.

After the song ended Johnson looked out over the roaring herd of fans and the music came to be silence. "Man..." he said as he turned to the band, "What the hell were we thinking when we retired?" The crowd laughs and cheers as he looks back at them. No wider grin has ever been on a mans face. "I think we owe them another hard one eh guys?"

The second song, "The World I Knew" is sort of an apocalyptic song from their return from retirement album, "Where Did My World Go". The song is like so many in the Rockers catalog in that it expresses a deeper thought and mind while packaging it in the familiar rock n roll style. I found this song to be one of my personal favorites from the entire show and the theatrics were even better. Johnson jumped off his pedestal but instead of falling he rode a cable wire out into the crowd with one hand holding the hook which supported his weight and one hand clenched to the mic. He ended all this madness by stepping down onto a small island out among the crowd and he finished the song there.

He raised his hand as the last beat rang out and looked up to the cable wire. "I was really dreading that the whole night man..." he said as he breathed heavily. "Well I aint dead so lets move on!" He jumped down into the crowd and slowly fought his way back to the main-stage, stopping to shake some hands and accepts some kisses as well. The audience erupted as all this was going on and I noticed a slow drum beat begin...resembling a heart beat. It continued to build up until he climbed his way back up to his band mates and the song erupted into a performance from Robert Kain that may prove his place in the Guitarist Hall of Fame. Words cannot describe the awe in my mind.

Coming from the back ground I had come from, my knowledge of The Rockers before the show was little to none. They were a historic rock band who had some hits years ago. Thats all I knew about them. I am generally not a rock fan either, especially the classic style these guys are known for. However, I listened to the next three songs and began to realize what makes each and every member of the band special. Its not the music, or the theatrics, or even the way they suck the crowd into their world. What makes them special is how they can be up on the stage in front of this many people...and be completely alone. The look in their eyes is not because they want to get the fans blood pumping. Its because they are getting their own hearts going. They are having the time of their lives and are lucky enough that its the time of our lives too.

As Kain fell to his knees and raised his guitar up above his head, I smiled to myself. The Johnson brothers held each others arms up in the air and George through his sticks out into the roaring sea of people. I had been swayed. The lights went out and I walked out of the stadium a believer in the old phrase, "Rock n Roll Will Never Die.""

John here, sitting back stage with the guys. We finished about 10 minutes ago. I think we did alright, and we certainly gave it our all. There were a few things I think we can fix over the course of the tour but I dont think there is one single problem with anyone member of the band. We all knew what we were supposed to do and went out there and did it. Some songs were not as well received as others, so we may look at changing the set list a little as well.

I dont think I have ever drank more water than I have since I went through those black curtains the opposite way though. I dont remember looking for a couch when I got back behind it all those years ago either. Well, I guess times have changed a little. Still, I had more fun than ever and at least now I know why I'm having fun. Its not the sex, beer, or the roar of the crowd. Its the music and the people. Each person I shook hands with as I walked through the crowd had a face and a story just like me. I'm no better than they are. In those moments I connected with them more than I connected with most of my friends through out my life, and that my friends is special.

Keep on Rocking,
John

Hey guys, The Rockers are getting back on the road. Chicago is not that far away but I always like to get to a city and spend some time there before the show. I am hoping that the rest days will also give us some time to re-work the set list and maybe see what we can do about a different stage-show. The island skit from the last show wont work for most of the tour now as the other places...well they dont have an island and we cant build one strong enough to keep myself safe from it collapsing.

The bus is beginning to show the tour has started as well. I think we must have set a record for most Little Debbie cakes in an enclosed space. Haha, looking forward to seeing you guys out at the shows man, let us know what you thought about St. Louis man!

Keep on Rocking,

Whats Been Lost

"This song was written by John lyrically but I handled the music aspect of it. It think John wanted to sort of talk about what he lost in his divorce from Stephanie Fierce and the connection he lost with his daughter...I tried to do my best to match music to that which is not easy. When some one has these intense and powerful emotions and you have to try and connect with it and get it across musically, its tough. I just tried to keep this a rather mellow song, but it didnt work. In the end I let it become this immensely powerful song with a rising chord structure. I think John agrees that its was for the best." - Robert Kain

To Thine Own Heart Be True

"This was the reverse song from the first track. This song is about being who I need to be in a time of crisis so that I can survive. I think I had to learn that I could never be the perfect man I was looked at as when I wrote this song. The music is uplifting, and I tried to make it have this overwhelming sense of hope. Dread is the only thing I made sure to keep out of this song...it doesn't belong anymore." - John

The Camel Through the Needle

"We chose this song for its sheer radio power to be the single. It is the kind of song that speaks to people yet gets them in a good mood. I think with this one I wanted to have it be as clear as possible what we were talking about, but not actually point at it directly. Hopefully it worked. Camel is a song that will beat you up but help you back to your feet afterwords." - John

The Red Book

"This was our only attempt at a breaking-the-mold song on this album. We went for the sort of epic feel that John had done with Rockers 2.0 so that the fans he picked up during that time would have something on this album as well. Its about a journey, not anything like swords and sandals or that stuff, just a journey of a man through his life and his own battles. This song is the most complex musically and the solo is pretty effing cool. Burnt my fingerprints off with that one. Haha." - Robert Kain

Last March of the Forgotten One's

"This was chosen as the title track because it sort of signals the turning point in life that the band has reached. We have been put in a place where we are sending those young kid versions of ourselves away. Those lives are over now and so they become the forgotten one's. Its not sad though, because their are better things ahead. At least thats one the song says anyway, haha. Near acoustic on this one until Robbie breaks loose towards the end with his signature wailing style solo." - George

Down the Way

"You know those songs about cowboys going down the road to the new towns? This is one of them man. One of the two songs I wrote on the album, I look at my brother John as if this song is about him. He is that lone wanderer trying to find his calling, but he doesnt realize its right in front of him. So yea, this songs about John." - Joey

A Modern Hymn

"Me and John wrote this one together. We wanted to capture the hopefulness of those old hymns you hear your grandparents sing at the churches. But we wanted a rock song. This is what comes out of that crazy logic. Its a semi-religious song about light and good news but we put that rock music too it. Not christian rock music...ugghh...our music with those words man." - Joey

The Paupers

"Paupers...that what we all are after all right? This is the rockiest song on the second half of the album. Its about living your life in a lie and pretending your fine. Its about living in a world that exists only in your imagination. I had a lot of fun writing this one both lyrically and story-wise. Music was written by Robert here and he did a great job making this song into something that fit on this album. It was an acoustic number and he made it a freaking bass-fest. Really shook things up." - John

Oh, My Love

This is the last song I wrote for the album and the last one numerically of mine as well. Its just about me and myself. Its a selfish song and I am not afraid to admit it. This is me saying my feelings, and my thoughts...to the world basically. I had my heart ripped out and gave back to me only to be taken away again...its about me wishing I knew where the off-button on this roller-coaster is..." - John

A New Road

"Hey, whats a Rockers album without a song about age and life? When we were young we wrote about being young and having sex and now we write about being old and moving on. This is the only song I wrote independently on the album and maybe through are career. I just wanted to write about what I think John and the band need to do. He's been moping a lot and I just wanted to force him to sing about being happy through it all. He enjoyed recording it and I enjoyed writing it, so hopefully you will enjoy listening to it. Pretty uplifting music, and its the only song with no drums. Special and different, just like the band." - Robert

Why does it always smell funny in Chicago? Maybe I'm just biased. Haha, the album was released yesterday and the entire band is excited to see what sort of reviews and buy-numbers start coming in. What we are really excited though is checking out what Chicago is like at night any more. The gig is not for a few days yet, so we are planning on enjoy ourselves while we are here. I always thought this place was neat, but really I enjoy the outskirts of town where you start getting into the woods and such more that the city itself. Oh well, I'm sure the boys will be enjoying themselves and their single-ness. I would, but I am debating weather I want to even get into that life again. Well, let us know how you guys are doing!

Keep on Rocking,
John

I'm looking forward to the Chicago show more than ever. Suddenly these resting days we've prepared are not looking so great. I had never expected to want to be out on the stage like I have. We have altered the set list and I think it will come out better and we have talked with the arena about some great ideas Joey had for the stage-show. This tour will be an evolution, always changing and growing. Its gets me going just thinking about it.

While we are waiting for showtime in Chicago I decided to take one of my other talents to work. I have been working on making banner artwork for our label, Kill the Poison. I initially made their logo as you call it, and then their follow up asked me to make banners for two of the labels bands. So I have spent my "resting time" working on the following banners for the label. Check it out.

Peace, Love,
George Francis

John looked around the table he was currently seated at. The band were playing cards, nothing serious though as far as gambling goes. Once in a blue moon someone would put up the last can of soda or the better bed to sleep in that night. Robert was telling a joke as Joey stood up and motioned to John to follow him to the kitchen to talk. His face was not smiling like it had been all night. John nodded and finished his hand before stepping away.

"They were doing the couch next, so I guess you saved me from that one." John said as he put his hand on his brothers shoulder. "Whats up?"

"I have been feeling a little ill today John. I'm worried I wont be up for it tomorrow." Joey frowned deeply but John smiled immediately after he stopped talking.

"Second show jitters. You've had them before, we all have. Trust me this will be a great show."

"It's not like that Johnny...I don't feel right...I can't explain it." John put his other hand on the opposite shoulder.

"Joey man...if you can't do the show you don't have too. We can hire a temp for the night no problem." John had that look in his eyes that Joey knew all too well. He meant what he said but Joey knew that John was begging him to do the gig tomorrow.

"I guess we'll see tomorrow morning...you better have some phone numbers ready though...just in case."

"Cool, now come on back over here and lets see if we can at least win the bed with the dip in it. One of us should sleep good tonight. I'll give it to you if I get it. Come on." John turned around and waved Joey back into the living room but as he stepped forward Joey felt a twist in his stomach. He grunted and took a quick sip of his water as he joined back into the conversation. Robert had finally remembered the punch-line just in time to for Joey to hear.

But as the group exploded with the jokes ending, even the laughter hurt.
