Song DescriptionAt just under 4 minutes long, this is an obvious choice as the second single but with it’s dark and deep lyrics matching perfectly with the eerie piano playing from the brooding rocker it wouldn’t be an obvious choice as a follow-up single. It’s quiet to begin with, just the piano and the soft whisper that fans of Caulfield will be very familiar with, it’s dark, eerie and very broody with Caulfield channelling Paul Westerberg and Gram Parsons in this short (certainly by Caulfield’s standards) but nevertheless endearing effort.
And just over the one minute mark, the song picks up pace with furious drum beats provided by Anthony Browne and a soft guitar completing the dramatic feel for this song, as Caulfield continues to sing with all the feeling possible he ends the song almost shouting with anger and any thoughts that this was a song tailor made for the radio is clearly wrong.
The production on the song isn’t perfectly layered and isn’t as crisp and clear as modern day music is but that just adds to the charm of the track, it sounds like it was recorded back in the 70’s and it’s something that fans of the likes of Tom Petty, Cat Stevens, Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney would maybe enjoy.
And with a haunting vocal accompanied perfectly by Caulfield’s piano playing and equally good playing by his backing band, it shows growth from the debut single but if nothing at least adds intrigue to the rocker.
For fans of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Cat Stevens, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Paul Westerberg and Gram Parsons.
Music VideoThe music video begins with an abandoned house in a secluded countryside, the video follows someone walking inside the house and as the music begins playing the video moves to follow where the music is coming from and as the door swings open in one of the bedrooms, Caulfield is sitting at a piano playing the song, while Caulfield performs the wind from the broken windows start blowing pieces of paper all around the room as the music starts to pick up pace. As the song comes to an end, Brandon stands up from the piano stool and closes the lid covering the keys, he turns to the camera and smiles.
