You know how it is. "I can't trust that President, because he's a Texan oil-guzzling redneck who will lie to get oil at any cost."
or
"I can't trust that President, because I'm a stupid fucking racist who thinks he's a secret Kenyan Muslim Communist Nazi sent here to destroy American society as I know it, and I'm so upset by this that I literally cannot formulate a single cohesive thought on the subject."

How embarressing must it be for Pakistan? They had all been saying that Bin Laden wasn't in their country, and they actually thought it was true. And in the end, he was living in a mansion about 100 meters from their Military base, and the military and goverment never knew.

I think that this being embarrassing because they didn't know would be the best possible result.

I dont think Bush or Obama have been "good" presidents. But I also dont think we have had one who really cared for this country since George Washington either so whatever. ;)

And that kids, is my honest to God opinion.

I think he has been an average president. Thats why I quote, unquoted "good"

He has not been a disaster like Bush was. But he certainly has not been the saving grace we needed and hoped for. His focus has been messy, the results have been lousy, and a few other things. Most of it though, I will admit has not been his fault. The guy has had to force his way through a sea of doubters and people pushing their agendas, all the while just restricting him from actually doing anything.

In all honesty I have seriously lost my faith in the red, white, and blue. I used to be the typical "America is awesome" kid. Boy scout, Grandpa is a veteran...all that stuff. Lately I look at the flag in my room and wonder....where are we? I read about Washington, Lincoln, Franklin, even a Confederate like Robert E. Lee and I cannot help but wonder what happened to living for the causes of the people and not the agendas of our own. How did our leaders become so selfish and wrought with greediness and evil deeds? Most importantly, why have the peoples of America not risen up and done something before we became nothing but the smoldering ashes floating away from the tired flames of industry? Where on this road to democracy did we turn into that which for so long we tried to break free from?

Having faith in the "red, white and blue" as you say, having faith in a nation is much different than putting something forward into action. I feel like Americans are the most unappreciative, idiotic, assertive, arrogant, selfish bastards. Which is why we have done absolutely nothing. We like to sit back and judge people instead of making a difference. We like to point point point. There is a reason why I rephrased that twice. We for some damn reason CANNOT adapt to shit. No even the slightest change and now that we are stuck, we are building up priorities that are unnecessary and only so much can be done in a limited amount of time.

Also, people who based their opinions off pride and reputation are lost. We Americans never like to expect the worst in things. The fact that we've evolved as a nation (technology, sciences ect.) and have let that shape our culture is the fault. We are in no position to say "this president" would of done a great job today.

How can you live for the cause of the people, when there are too many causes, perspectives? How can you equalize a civilization, without someone whining or complaining that it is unfair?

If our attitudes don't change, we will never be happy, no matter what happens.

Of course it is impossible to make everyone happy. I know that quite well.

My point was that making at least one person happy would be nice once in a while. I just think the world in general is sort of spiraling out of its own created mess. I dont think George Washington would have been great now, that would be stupid to think. I think he was the perfect person to be president at that time and to have those problems on his shoulders. Obama however, is not the perfect person for this time and these problems.

Everything seems rosy in hindsight. Unless you were there, I don't think you can really make an impartial judgement. Same with all the "great" presidents. I think some people have elevated certain presidents in their minds to prophets or saints. They were all just people.

The key problem Obama has had to face in pushing his goals is conservative propaganda, which has capitalised on America's old fears: communism, black culture, taxes, change, godlessness, non Christian religion, etc.

It's fairly simple on paper, the GOP helps rich people at the poor people's expense, the Democrats help poor people at the rich people's expense. And somehow a lot of poor people would rather protect the idea of the money they may one day have, than the money they have right now. And they support the idea of a trickle-down effect, of job-creators, all that rhetoric. There is no trickle-down effect. To use that same liquid based analogy, these job-creators will do anything they can to plug up all the holes and prevent any of their tasty money leaking out. That's how the system works.

How can any working person be in favour of removing the right to collectively bargain? Because propaganda spins it around and makes it a socialist thing. How can any person be in favour of regulating healthcare profits and widening coverage? Because the Nazis did it and therefore it must be evil. How can anyone not support a repeal of don't ask don't tell in the face of an overwhelming majority of armed forces declaring it unnecessary? Because God apparently doesn't like 'dem homersexuals.

CSIs identified the body as "more than likely Osama", so it's not even 100% legit and the press are having a field day. Not to mention they "buried the body at sea". So who can blame the Americans for being skeptics on the matter?

First the royal wedding and now this, I'm in Britain, so I couldn't give two fucks. 7/7 was perpetrated by a syndicate in our OWN country, so as someone of English (and Irish) heritage, I honestly don't care.

My personal highlight was seeing a news update feed on TV that said "Obama Bin Laden killed". Awkward.

controversial health care bill passed (which should've been the least of his worries during the economic times back then), closing down Guantanamo Bay, too slow in responding to Libya, too slow in helping the economy boost, too many excuses, controversial stimulus packages, initiatives begun to pull out of Iraq (not that bad really, I'm happy about this, but there are some pretty good challenges to back the opposing side)

Meh, The Royal Wedding was annoying IMO, I'm in the US and the whole fucking thing just stopped me from seeing local news. I'm a little more excited about Osama seeing how my dad served in the military and blah blah blah.

meh, Obama will do. I know that even before he took office that his whole "change" and "yes we can" slogans and catchphrases were really just a bunch of crap. yeah, he made some significant steps in American legislature, but it was still very overblown his entire campaign, and that led many away from him. He still is doing a good job, but it's not like he's the "greatest president to have ever lived", and quite frankly, I don't care if he gets re-elected or not. They're still just gonna put in another puppet head if he loses. American government is all bullshit, and a cry of PR
