Tartanry and tourism just ain't my bag Nor are they mine, in fact I have very little respect for "traditional" or contemporary Scottish culture. But I don't see how that's relevant in the least. A Scottish-centric Scottish government, with a proven track record and strong leader is my bag though. Independent Scotland? In theory I'm behind it. Honestly, I'd love to be a citizen of a small new nation. Perhaps a nation that will be proud to stand on its own two feet instead of being stuck in the mindset of a bitter historical inferiority complex. |

Honestly, I'd love to be a citizen of a small new nation. Perhaps a nation that will be proud to stand on its own two feet instead of being stuck in the mindset of a bitter historical inferiority complex. It's relevant in a way. He's always been a fan of all this tartan day crap and he really pushed his Homecoming stuff a couple of years ago. A lot of what he does is centred on traditional patriotism and being overtly proud to be Scottish. If I'm honest, I like being Scottish, but I also like being British, and I'm not huge on mega patriotism. With the independence thing. Again, each to their own. As I say, I like being part of the UK, so I'm obviously going to be fundamentally against independence. I think today's result will move us closer to independence. And because I'm against it, I'm obviously going to be less than impressed with today's result. The fact that they got a proper majority will only accelerate it all in my opinion. I have no other issue with the SNP and it's great that they have the interests of this country as their mindset, but independence will always be the top priority of Mr Salmond, and so I am none too pleased with their election. But, this is a democracy at the end of the day, and the Scottish people as a whole were massively behind them. They deserve huge kudos for pulling that off. As I say though, I'm seriously considering the move across border. Timing is great for me, having just left uni I have a number of options available anyway. |

I just honestly don't see the advantage of being part of the UK any more. Scotland has always been more socialist than England, and Scotland under a Conservative government has repeatedly proved difficult. But here's the thing. Whether or not you yourself want independence, do you not think that there ought to be a referendum on the question? If you want to vote no then, you can. Until such a referendum occurs, the Scottish National Party continue to improve life in Scotland. And should such a referendum be held, if Scotland wants to vote no, it will.
Having said all this, I'm looking to get out of Scotland myself. Of course, I'm going to need a job soon to do that. |

I would vote no, of course, but I think there are a lot of people who are increasingly starting to think that it may be the way forward. If they vote yes, then those of us against it would have to either bite the bullet or leave. Me, I would leave personally. |

Truth is, day-to-day life wouldn't be be that different either way, so to threaten to leave on the idealogical principle that you like being a devolved member of a four-country nation within the EU better than being an independent country in the EU kind of seems like a strange position to take. |

There was a bit of a chat with Carl about that the other day, it seems to be just mods that experience the problem. |

It is a bit dodgy, and a mods' only issue. On this account, it says there's 311 pages worth of Random Thread, but on t'other account, it says there's 305. My theory is that the mods can see deleted posts or something .... I'm not entirely sure. |
