Lily shares album details about her first solo album, Raw which has been released today. She explains the meaning of the album title and the meaning of the songs.
"The album title is named 'Raw' because this album has no tricks, no hidden meanings, it's just pure Raw talent and each song has a special meaning to me. It portrays anger, fear, love, happiness, confusion, everything that people can relate to. There are songs on here for everyone because everyone has an issue that this song will take care of, i guarantee it." Tracklist Revenge is Sweeter Than Making Up (4:00)The song starts out with a guitar playing slowly then it picks up the pace with drums and bass kicking in. Lily stars singing with anger and frustration in her voice. As she sings the chorus, her voice range is shown off. She starts to sing the second verse and the music stops with only Lily’s voice being heard then the music kicks in again. This song is about not being the bigger person and getting revenge
"This song is about being angry really. Being pissed off at someone and not willing to forgive them or be the 'bigger' person and walking away. I think everyone enjoys a little revenge." The Bitch in Me (3:45)This song is about friendship and how it was lost. She wanted to save the friendship but decided to let it fade. More guitars and has a real metal feel to it.
"It's not a secret that me and my former band left on bad terms and i don't mind talking about it. We were the best of friends but when you get to be famous people change and not always for the better. We weren't a band anymore as much as we were 4 people making music together. All they cared about was money and they left their morals at home. I could have tried to be friends with them but the bitch in me just doesn't want to. I've always felt things happen for a reason and me being solo is probably better than going back to a band." We All Fall Down (4:32) A song about falling off track but getting yourself together and moving on. Lily’s voice talents are also showcased on this record as she holds a note for what seems like forever.
"This could be the "Alcoholics and Drug Addicts' anthem. Everyone falls off track or loses their goals sometimes and this song points it out. The best thing to do is start over and the worst thing to do is to ignore the problem. It's like nobody is a perfect artist, we're gonna screw up eventually, you just gotta be strong enough to pick yourself up after you fall." If This is Heaven Send Me Back To Hell (4:03)This song has a more dramatic feeling to it. Lily’s voice stays as a soprano and has an opera sound to it. The instruments in this song include flutes, guitar, harp, and piano. It’s basically about rather dying then suffering.
"It talks about how the fear of dying which alot of people have. The message is simple; Are you really better off living in these terrible times and on this hell-bound earth or dying?" Gravity of Love (Enigma Cover) (3:58) Lily does a wonderful job of singing this song. It starts out with a chant of “O Fortuna velut Luna" ["O Fortune like the Moon"]. She then starts to sing with a digital like voice which sounds almost eerie and comforting at the same time.
"This song talks about alot of things. I have my own interpretation of it as others will. I think this song is about ultimately living for love. No matter what you do, your gonna find someone in life you love it's just part of human nature. It's a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics." Digital Love (4:15) The song starts out with a piano being played with a sort of futuristic sound to it. The song is about online relationships and how they seem almost impossible at first but can be everlasting. Sounds Like This
"This song talks about the troubles of internet dating. Alot of people have resorted to it and then they 'fall in love' with someone online. It gets tough because your basically trusting someone over a computer. It can end up in many ways but ultimately if its real love, it'll happen." Puppet (2:55) A song about a little girl who is going through a terrible period in her life. She is being abused and abandoned by her mother. A song about being at your lowest point and not coming out of it.
"Puppet resembles my childhood. It’s like if you buy a pet. If you neglect the pet, don’t feed it, don’ love it, soon that pet will turn on you or even die. I feel as if part of me was killed by my mother a part of me that can’t be revived. The puppet symbolizes me.” Broken Glass (3:37) Starts out with a guitar, drums, bass, and keyboards playing. Lily sings in an opera like voice again hitting high notes and low when needed. At the end of the song, you hear glass being broken. This song is about being lonely when you’re in a relationship and also being abused by that loved one.
"I think we've all felt like that at some point in our lives. Loneliness is a stranger to no one. Using an opera like mood was fun and experimenting made me find a new love in opera. It's also got a nice bass line in there. War (4:58) A song about the world today. The drums in this song are amazing and loud. Lily reveals a little screamo in this song. It’s about the hardships that we are facing today and how it’s almost like a war we go through.
“This is probably my favorite song on here. A lot of anger and sadness in this song. Basically, this song is about how most people are feeling; they are fed up with the way the world is working today. We’re tired of being lied to and being taken advantaged of. People murdering and robbing other people is like an everyday thing now. The world, the way I see it, is not safe and may never be. It’s about just being sick and tired and this song just has the emotion that a lot of people have been holding in. It’s as if I’ve taken on the role of speaking for them through this song.” Another Day Is Over (3:06) This song has an eerie and spooky feeling to it. Lily’s voice is almost haunting and death like. She sings about pain and hurt of someone you love leaving you. She vocalizes in this song throughout it and at the end.
“This song is almost like after the war is over, what’s gonna be left of the world. There may be nothing or anyone left. It’s just going to be another day passing by. It also can be used in a love sense. When everything is gone, what is there really to live for?” |
