Postscript has only recently broke through the barrier separating the underground artists with the mainstream music scene, and barely anyone would have known his name this time last year. Now however, he says with confidence that “I’ll be the person who will change peoples views on the popular music scene”, why has he only recently gained fame? Because he was signed to grime artists record label Monk on Fire Music back in January 2011. We’re here to find out how his life has changed since being signed as well as a variety of other questions.
MTVUK: So, what’s it like to be signed to Monk on Fire Music?Postscript: It’s better than not being signed *laughs* no, being serious it’s brilliant. MattY is a nice guy, and the label has supported me since I’ve been signed and just helped with everything that I’ve needed.
MTVUK: Would you say that your life has changed dramatically since being signed?Postscript: Well I’ve been focusing on my music a lot more as I’ve got contracts and what not, but other than that not really. I’m not exactly a huge celebrity so I can causally walk around and only get one person ask for a picture or something every few weeks. It’s an easy life, but once I’ve released my album that might change.
MTVUK: You’ve given a few details about your album, Welcome To The World. Why did you choose that as a title?Postscript: I decided to call it Welcome To The World as it’s my welcoming to the music industry, if you know what I mean? This will be my first album to be released on an official record label, and should be the album that gets me into the world that is the music industry and makes people notice me.
MTVUK: You worked with MattY and Marksii on your album, how did it feel to be working with the pair?Postscript: It was weird at first, I mean MattY is huge in the business at the moment, he’s just getting better and better, and Marksii is just different to how I imagined. Last time I was told about Marksii he was still playing music with Lights Go Red, so I didn’t know if he’d be helpful for my type of music, but he’s into electronic music more than most people nowadays, and mixed with MattY’s grime abilities they’ve both shaped the album into how it is.
MTVUK: You’re first single Magic Spells charted at 7 in the Top 20 charts, did you expect that response?Postscript: Not in the slightest. When me and Marksii wrote the song it was just to give an idea of some of the elements my album will have in it. Loads of electro and some raping mixed in with some singing. People seemed to have liked it, which is a good sign for the album!
MTVUK: The second single from Welcome To The World was released today (6th May 2011), how do you think fans will react?Postscript: I think that anyone who likes experimental music will enjoy the mix of electronic music, then twisting it to an indie rock sound and mixing everything together. It’s different to my normal stuff, so it’s a nice change in my opinion.
MTVUK: Have you planned to release anymore singles before the album is released?Postscript: I haven’t planned on bringing out more singles before the album is released, but I might release one of the songs as a single around the same time as the album just for the sake of it. It depends on what the label says as I’ve only got a 7 singles contract to last me 3 albums.
