Look, it's all minimalistic and shit.
So yeah, here's the big single which will soon be up for voting, so do it. It also features another Quillington penned song that I've recorded and a massive medley of 80s songs, which you should enjoy. I know I do, anyway. Letsa go!1. Untitled Thoughts (4:53) (Rock/ Alternative Rock) [FEATURING AND WRITTEN BY ERIC QUILLINGTON]Slow, sad violins begin the song. Soon afterwards, it is joined by a slow, jazzy drum beat and Eric Quillington’s piano coming into play. A bluesy, soulful lead guitar riff by Jason also comes into action, accompanied by another one to support it, which is slightly groovier. The bass is pretty simple, just one note after another. This doesn’t go on for very long before the vocals come into action, soulfully and extremely emotionally by Jason. The violins are joined by some synths as well as a couple of ambient effects, but very discreetly. The chorus is a loud, anthemic and surprisingly upbeat piece of music, with Jason and Eric both singing loudly above alternative rock style piano and guitar chords. At the end of the chorus, the music quietens down and goes off on a tangent, with Jason and Eric engaging in some Smashing Pumpkins-style soloing. Towards the end of this solo, it goes back into another verse which carries on in the same style as the first one, except the violins are louder and playing a slightly happier melody. Sort of like a rainbow after a rainy day. It goes into the chorus again, with ironic choirs behind both the men, and a lot of background noises going on now. At the end of it, they engage in yet ANOTHER guitar battle, except this time it is slightly more traditional, and reminiscent of Oasis. It then goes into a quiet, mournful melody like at the beginning and slowly fades out.Lying awake talking to you through a film
The spaces between our thoughts are so slow
And when the silence becomes unbearable, I’ll try to sing you songs
It’s my only talent that belongs
I’m floating away from the world, but it’ll be there when I get back
The sky will never vanish, and I’ll always have it in my mind
I’ll impatiently spit out these words
Skipping from one thought to the next never has a pattern
The years stumble on, all the while I’m terrified of the next day
But I’ll be buried before my hair turns grey
I’m floating away from the world, but it’ll be there when I get back
The sky will never vanish, and I’ll always have it in my mind
There’s no time for the present, but the wait for the future is much too long
2. A Box of Crayons (2:34) (Electronica/ Industrial Rock)[WRITTEN BY ERIC QUILLINGTON]Matt Roberts plays an incredibly manic bass solo amongst explosions and other sci-fi effects, before a glitchy, synthesized drum with an odd timing pattern also enters. After a couple of seconds, an unusual, downtuned guitar enters, having just as odd a time pattern as the drum. The song is sounding odd and complicated at this point, deliberately. A sped up section of people talking and then screaming enters, while the drumming gets faster and faster and all the other instruments drop out. The lyrics are then talked angrily by Jason in an almost comedic way. More and more layers of noise are dropped on top of it, until the vocals are barely comprehensible beneath all these layers. Then, a massive wall of noise falls on top of the song and amazingly fast drums and synths appear. In an operatic style, Jason sings the last line and holds his high note for a very, very long time. After this note, everything boils down into a bundle of mechanical noises with an off-beat electronic sequence playing behind it. Beneath this, you can hear Jason talking about the wonders of the universe, although what he actually says isn’t quite clear at this precise moment. For a few seconds, it builds up but then goes back down again into a grating machinery noise before laughing ceases everything. My mother gave me a box of Crayons for Christmas, and I wasn’t happy
I wanted a razorblade, so I could write my new poetry with a deep shade of red
That colour wasn’t in the godamned box
But, I see the world in a unique fashion, with each colour representing a different mood or event
This box is no exception, and I figured it would be wise to write about my views on them
So I did, while listening to a bunch of underground bands you’ve never heard of
Green is the sound of puke hitting a brick wall at sub-zero momentum
Blue is the feeling of happiness after getting a new truck for your birthday
Red lives in Antarctica with the crab-people, plotting revenge against the penguin menace
Yellow is your obnoxious next door neighbour, always asking to borrow your lawn-mower
You're welcome.
3. TJSB Goes 80s Medley (Irene Cara – Flashdance... What a Feeling/ Grandmaster Flash – The Message/ Toto – Africa/ Frankie goes to Hollywood – The Power of Love/ Culture Club – Karma Chameleon/ David Bowie – Modern Love/ Motley Crue – Home Sweet Home) (6:43) (Hard Rock/ Power Pop)This almagation of cheese and nostalgia begins with the beginning of Flashdance... What a Feeling played by two piercing dual guitars with a quiet drum and bass background building up. After that initial bit, they skip the first verse or so and every instrument plows into the chorus, a bit slower, but just as energetic as the original. The drums are playing furious blastbeats which somehow fit, while Jason is singing in a falsetto voice. The guitars and bass here are pretty straight forward Hard Rock playing the melody. After that, an echoed guitar suddenly breaks into the melody of The Message. The drums slow down into a trip-hop beat. The vocals are hushed aggressively throughout the song, making you expect Jason to start screaming any moment. He manages to contain himself throughout this section. The “Don’t push me” part of the song is marked by the drums dropping out and Jason raising his voice slightly, before subsiding into an operatic baritone for Africa. The guitar plays the melody pretty simply, as do the bass and drums. The difference here is that Jason is singing both parts of the dual, showing off his extremely high voice and his low murmured singing. Then it goes into a guitar solo mixed with the intro from Africa for a little while, before slowing and going into the bridge from The Power of Love. Drums are big here, and the guitars play a doomy riff which is actually quite uplifting, weirdly enough. At the end, there is a little wanky moment before segueing into Karma Chameleon. The harmonica is replaced by the lead guitar here, as the rhythm guitar supports the melody. This time, the drums are furious here, similar to Flashdance. Also, the bass guitar plays a quite complicated melody. Karma Chameleon then carries its energy on to Modern Love, which is played in practically the exact same fashion as the original. However, the guitar has a more punk vibe to it and the drums are way more frenetic. As this continues, a drum roll builds up slowly in the background. The song fades out as the drum roll gets louder and it eventually goes into a massive symphonic finish with the entire band and an orchestra singing the final remnants of “Home Sweet Home”. This is, of course, just an effect used, since no orchestra would be willing to do a full 15 seconds of music. It then goes into a music box playing the melody of the song to finish it.What a feeling.
Bein's believin'.
I can have it all, now I'm dancing for my life.
Take your passion,
and make it happen.
Pictures come alive, you can dance right through your life.
It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder,
How I keep from going under,
It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder,
How I keep from going under.
Don't push me cause I'm close to the edge,
I'm trying not to lose my head, ah huh-huh-huh.
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you,
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do,
I bless the rains down in Africa,
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had.
This time we go sublime,
Lovers entwine-divine divine,
Love is danger, love is pleasure,
Love is pure-the only treasure.
Karma karma karma karma karma chameleon,
you come and go, you come and go.
Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams,
red gold and green, red gold and green.
Modern love, modern love, modern love, modern love, modern love, modern love
Modern love, modern love, modern love, modern love, modern love, modern love.
I'm on my way
Just set me free
Home Sweet Home...
What do you guys think? I think it rocks, myself. One more single after this, probably, and then that'll be it from Still Waters. Thank you guys very much!
