Sam Carnegie looked outside to the downpour hesitantly. His mouth curling at the thought of exiting his friend's house. He then looked over to his friend's boy, who returned his gaze with one of mystical wonder.
"So...how's school?" He asked quietly.
The boy shrugged with an honest disinterest. Click, relief rushed over Sam as he looked over to the door and found that Matthew Anders, the friend who currently owned the house, had entered the room. He was dripping with rain from the downpour and he looked from Sam to his son. "Did I miss anything?" He asked. Both shook their heads with wild calmness. Matt shrugged, the spitting image of his boy. "I found something interesting while I was at the store. Pete, go to your room." The boy obeyed with a grunt as he ran up the stairs and Matt looked over to Sam, pulling the poster out of his coat's pocket. Delta Tau Battle of the Bands 5 it read.
"What about it?" Sam asked, a cold tone hovered between his words.
"Back before any of this. When we were in High School, we played in a band. The MoanTones. Look at the reward money!" He pointed to that area of the poster. "If we win, we could stop the foreclosure!"
"Listen to yourself Matt! You're putting everything in on a small chance. Look at the poster, it says Professional Bands will be playing. We don't even have a name. Christ, we don't have instruments either!" Sam retorted.
"Listen, I've got instruments in the basement. I've got drums and I've got a guitar. Please do this for me Sam, if not for me...for Pete. We need this more than anything man." Matt said and for the first time since Junior High, Matthew had asked Sam for a favor. Usually it was the other way around and Matthew obliged without complaint. Now, the shoe was on the other foot. Now, Sam had no choice.
Sam sighed as he put his hands out, "Screw it. I've got no choice then. I'm in." Matthew clapped his hands together in joyful glee. "Do you even have a name in mind?"
"Kinda..."
And so 'Blues From Down Here' was formed.
