MONGOLBORD SURFINGTURD Newsletter 4

Well howdy gentlechaps, meatbags and homo sapiens of a womanly persuasion. You can stop crying into your breakfast cereal, we're here to deliver good news... Tasty new music from your favourite purveyors of Canadian avant-music Mongolbord Surfingturd.

New stuff this month, including the rather astounding new work by Lord High Empruss Celia the Fuckin' Lamp, this time exploring world music from forest-dwellers. There is a reason Taiga took two years to complete, as much of it recorded on location amongst various dense natural woods all across Canada, with traditional musicians.

That brings us up to 29 releases. So to celebrate 30, we decided to put together a rather unique little retrospective, collecting a huge array of little musical curios for all our fans.

And if that's not enough, it's finally time for the new album from Plague Techtonics. The title is self-explanatory, the sound, irony.

Oh, and if you're still not quite satisfied after those two major releases, maybe that's because you were waiting for the latest collection of fresh sounds captured out of thin air by the Plastik Oblong Orkestry? Well you're in luck you funky mothers. Taking on a new psychedelia-inflection, POO throw every whacked-out idea at the wall, and now that wall is covered in hot steamy new POO music. If you see what I mean.

Whew, all this new music is exhausting.

Tie a ribbon round the old oak tree,
Quentin Uderick Iain Phong

UPCOMING RELEASES

bord29
Despite the name, this band is really just a bunch of conservatory-trained Grateful Dead fans.
Lord High Empruss Ceila the Fuckin' Lamp – Taiga
(3xLP/CD) LIMITED EDITIONS AVAILABLE

1. This Elke be Demandin'/This Goose be Commandin' (18:13)
2. The Scale of Human Atrocities Swiftly Pass Over the Puzzled Head of the Obliviously Hibernating Kodiak Bear (10:52)
3. Draw Deep of Your Tankards to Get Through a Polar Night (8:10)
4. Lo, the Rough-Legged Buzzard Weighs Heavily Upon You, Corpse of a Former Mountain Hare (36:23)
5. Borealis Reverberant Apropos of Wōden (10:42) [LP edition only]

The return of our very favourite psychedelic jazz adventurers, Taiga explores a boreal theme inspired by their Canadian roots. Their longest release to date at over 73 minutes, Taiga features the talents of a number of First Nations singers who wrote lyrics in their native languages. The record explores and celebrates the vast panorama of Canada's boreal forest regions and aboriginal cultures, incorporating elements of western and traditional musics, with a breathtaking bedrock of environmental sound. To record this album, the band spent two years touring Canada studying, performing and recording this music. Many elements of these recordings were produced on location.

3xLP, limited edition run of 400 in a beautiful hardback book format featuring landscape painting and photography from the band's recording tour. Standard edition available thereafter. All LPs in Forest green.
CD limited edition run of 400 also available, in a smaller hardback book format featuring different art from the LP. Standard digipack available thereafter.

Available on CD only, this compilation celebrates, and is, our 30th ever release. Rather than just picking our favourites from our various releases, we asked each of our artists to produce something unique for us. What we got in return amazed us.

This collection includes previously unreleased material from almost all of our artists, ranging from radical re-interpretations of existing material to unique collaborations. MGS provide some of the fruits of their worst-kept-secret collaboration with Lobedoctor himself, from Lobedoctor MD, while Strongarmed Colostomy Joe sent us an absurdly dense five-minute collage containing elements of seemingly all of his previous work. Our personal highlight though has to be the short lofi electronica outburst provided by non-musicians label visual designer Neil Gord, and web guru Andrew Eamonola. It's especially interesting, because we never even asked them for music...

This compilation serves as a taster for the label's music, while containing some genuine value for our existing fans.

Single-sleeve Half-price CD available now..

Irony, see? As in, sort of like iron? IT'S FUNNY!
Plague Techtonics – Ferrum
(2xLP/CD)

1. The Slow Decay of the Machine (4:42)
2. Ferrum (23:45)
3. Mössbauer (10:50)
4. Density 7.9 (2:27)
5. Fléchettes (0:39)
6. Lapis Hæmatites (8:01)

After a recent run of reissues, we are proud to finally announce the new Plague Techtonics full-length record is right here, available on 2xLP and CD. Ferrum lives up to the band's reputation as purveyors of the very finest experimental noise and dark ambience, with the addition of new sonic layers. Ferrum features in-situ metallic percussive elements recorded in a variety of unorthodox locations chosen for their extreme reverberant qualities. This is the sound of metallic decay and a dark reflection of the post-industrial condition.

2xLP available as standard in rust red fleck and special triple-fold edition 500 copies in rust red fleck blue-silver marble.
CD digipack version.

I don't think I came up with the name Plastik Oblong Orkestry specifically to fit the acronym POO, that was just a happy accident.
Plastick Oblong Orkestry – The Crawdad Takes Command
(2xLP/CD)

1. Face Bee the Face Bee in Your Face/Best Beehaviour (5:42)
2. Where Are Those Giant Crabs Now?? (3:04)
3. Giant Crabs Go Home! (5:12)
4. Punched Eighteen Thousand Times In Your Stupid Face (9:11)
5. Baking Alabama (8:14)
6. Tuesday Sunship Collides With a Muskox (2:41)
7. Hypercardioid Disasterscape (0:23)
8. Got the Living Inside of a Really Nice Hotel with a Crawdad Blues (0:43)
9. Balsa's Not as Soft a Wood As You Would Think (2:18)
10. Buburboloid II (3:33)
11. Buburboloid I (3:33)
12. Io the Thief (2:22)
13. Hypobuburboloid++ (0:01)
14. Sleeping In the Fish Pan Such as a Fish Drummer Flam Beat Scam (17:02)

POO returns with The Crawdad Takes Command, a sharp turn in their sound, towards a Melvins-esque slow and low grimy rock format, twinged with dark paranoid psychedelia. Expect some truly weird guitar explorations, helicopter swirl and cavernous delay aplenty. For this recording, drummer Alain Francesco has removed cymbals from his kit entirely creating a distinctive primitive sound. Also check out the free with commentary edition for "insight" into crawdad biology and moustache grooming.

2xLP, 1x white, 1x black.
CD digipack edition.
