Hot Topic caught up music video director Chris Cunningham to discuss his take on Stephanie Fierce's new music video "Dying In the Airwaves" which premieres May 29, 2011.

Chris Cunningham: The "Dying in the Airwaves" music video will be out next week. It's no foolery. It's tragic. There is a beautiful message behind it. Finding the right balance in things. Standing up for what's right.

One thing I can reveal is that Stephanie Fierce pays a tribute to "Hòa thượng Thích Quảng Đức". It's self sacrifice/Immolation.

I think people have already heard about the "sky diving/motorcycle" scene. But what I will say, its that it was something very difficult to shoot and it surprisingly turned out as we envisioned. Stephanie Fierce is one of the most courageous people I've ever met. Stephanie Fierce isn't a bad bitch. Stephanie Fierce is fierce. Simply put.


Chris also also co-directed "Crucifixion on an Innocent (Suffer)"

Chris Cunningham: I'm into crazy, yet simplistic visuals. So "Crucifixion on an Innocent (Suffer)" was an amazing experience. Her idea of showing an older version of herself was pretty creative and I was very surprised by it. I don't think anyone has had that sort of artisic vision that Stephanie Fierce has had. The whole blueprint of the video is something we're very proud of til this day. I'm very proud it was a success.

The video does have some choreography involved. But it's a bit toned down and most of it was not choreographed. The body movement plays a big role in the video. The movement represents the emotion that a person is feeling. There are three emotions: Pain, Fear and Peace.

The imagery also plays a big role. Its very glossy in some parts. Like the water. But rigid at the same time, since the sky and sand, its colors are solid and cinematic. We were inspired by the movie "300". Inspired. We're not duplicating anything. I guess you can consider this a high-budget video, but the concept is so simplistic, that it all mixes in pretty well. It's not this "pop" flavored music video. It looks like something you will find on an indie film. Especially with the sky diving scene.

I use to go sky diving all the time before my pregnancy. But I never did any crazy stunts. It took two months of training before I could do something like this. I almost turned back, but decided to face my fear. The scariest part, was letting go of the motorcycle, and watching it leave my sight. It was very difficult to do the shot, simply because there were people around me and the shot of me falling down is a solo shot. It was a one time sort thing and it came out so great.

I'm really proud of the video. And hopefully the message it brings, sticks to people.

Stephanie Fierce: Thanks Magie! I don't really consider myself a "Visuals" artist solely. Lol people get me confused with that girl name "Beyonce" (who is Beyonce again?, I could of sworn.....) Any who, I care about my craft from all ends. Performance, Visuals, production, writing, vocals ect wise. But I def appreciate your compliment, that's a big thing to say! :)
