I Will Posses Your Heart(Cover)
With that, the lights dimmed until the whole area was covered with darkness. From the ceiling, a giant whale with a radioactive symbol is lowered until it’s just above the stage. Currently, only a man with a piano occupies the stage, and a thin guitarist who plays a quick chord while stepping on a distortion pedal. It comes out just the way it should and the pianist begins to play before stopping abruptly as a female bassist comes out onto the stage. She plays the same few chords over and over again while nodding her head quietly. The stage lights slowly come on as a man runs over to his drumset and begins to play a steady backbeat, he’s Paul Glover. The guitarist, Gary Finch, plays a few more chords on his guitar. He steps on the pedal once more as he lets feedback take over. During this intro to the song, a few audience members begin to chant “Bremen! Bremen! Bremen!” In response, two stage hands come out with buckets that are filled to the brim with small Space Whale plushies. The undersides of the plushies are stamped with ‘Stop The Whaling!’ The stage hands pour them into the audience as the crowd cheers. The pianist, Greg Marsh, continues to start and stop and the bassist, Renee, makes her chords deeper. The sound growing darker in contrast to the light piano playing. Finally, the star attraction makes his way onstage, much to the anticipation of the crowd. They scream in joy as Winston Marsh walks onto the stage, no guitar. He’s headed straight for the mic and he picks it from the stand and begins his lyrics:
How I wish you could see the potentialAll the other instruments quiet, except for the guitar which continues to strum lightly.
The potential of you and me
It’s like a book elegantly bound but
In a language you can’t read just yetThe backbeat continues, along with consistent strums from Gary. At the end of each verse Greg plays his piano momentarily.
You gotta spend some time love
Gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you’ll find love
That I will possess your heart
You gotta spend some time love
Gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you’ll find love
That I will possess your heartWinston reaches his hand into the crowd as there’s a brief lyrical break before he gets right back into the mix of things:
There are days when outside your window
I see my reflection as I slowly pass
And I long for the spirit perspective
When we’ll be lovers
Lovers at last
You gotta spend some time love
Gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you’ll find love
That I will possess your heart
You gotta spend some time love
Gotta spend some time with me
And I know that you’ll find love
That I will possess your heartRenee begins to softly sing background vocals in an echo to Winston as he begins the next verse:
You reject my advances with desperate plea
I won’t let you let me down
So easily So easilyAnd with a final strike the song ends as the crowd cheers loudly and Winston shouts in the mic.
“Save the whales eh!? Chaos Awards people you’re a lovely crowd! We got enough time for one more song! It’s nice and quick, original too! Not on any album so check this shit out!:
The Fire I Started
Greg stands from his piano and moves over to his Toshiba Keyboard that has been set up for him. Gary hands his guitar over to Winston who goes to set the adjustments to an apt level for him. Gary, in the meantime sits on the stage and slowly takes off his jacket.
Greg begins the song as Gary takes off his jacket, he begins it with slowly key strokes which correspond with light sounds. Paul begins his slow drum beat, utilizing his hi-hat quite often as Winston begins to strum, Renee backing him up. His strumming is frantic and even more disorientated once he steps on the Distortion Pedal. By the time Winston reaches the microphone, ready to sing, Gary has stripped his jacket and begins to take his shoes off.
Dreams of days that haven’t past
Moments that I thought wouldn’t last
Shallow dreams of things that I don’t need
Memories of the dearly departed
Decade old advice I was told to heed
All were lost amongst the fire I started
Yeah, yeahThe instruments all stop and the stage is abrupt in silence. The crowd doesn’t cheer nor does the band make their closing remarks as they all hold their heads down. Before Winston strikes a chord sharply, leaving feedback. A stagehand tosses Renee a violin bow and she begins to slowly bring it across the chords of her bass, creating a low hum as Gary tosses his jacket to the crowd, as well as his shoes. Paul and Greg both leave their instruments and head off stage as Gary does too. Winston begins to slowly clap in two second intervals, along the sound of Renee’s bass humming.
I silently wander to the ends of this Earth
I witnessed the stars at Birth
So why can’t I believe in you?
Why can’t I see past your hollow interior?
I want to believe that you’re something more than a shattered hue
But I’m afraid to admit that I’m inferiorWith that, Renee stops and takes her bass with her as she leaves the stage. The crowd cheers feverishly as Winston places his mic back on the stand and waves before leaving the stage.
