Cassie Valentine's Field Trip Festival Performance

UserPostedImage

After being announced, Cassie immediately makes her way to the stage. She is blowing kisses and waving at the fans who are screaming her name. She stands in front of the mic stand and leans into it to say "Are you ready to have some fun?" As the crowd screams "Yes!” ,she smiles and says "Let’s have some fun then!". The Dj behind her starts to play the music to "Wasting My Tears". Cassie starts the first verse.

My love for you was always shown
Although at times I felt alone
We had our nights we had our days
"I love you" was said in many ways
Until your secret was told
And everything you had done began to unfold
Through all the hurt, through all the pain
My love for you still remained

As Cassie starts singing the hook the music starts to pick up to get ready for the chorus.

I can’t believe that you are not near
To lose you is my every fear
Yet you’re the cause of my every tear
So now as I lay here alone
I realize how foolish I’ve been all along
(And now….)

UserPostedImage

Once the chorus arrives the background singers, behind Cassie, sing the chorus while she harmonizes.

I'm tired of wasting my
tears on you
Ooh ohh(wasting my tears on youuuuuu)
I was wrong to trust you (I was wrongggg)
I was wrong to believe when you said (Oh baby when you saidddd)
that I was your dream come true( baby why you have to lie to me)
[2x]

The music slows back down as Cassie sings the second verse.

The remarkable feeling of your touch
The words “I love you very much”
The sweet kisses from you
All the things we’ve been through
And the cherished memories we made
Are the reasons why I stayed
Until your secret was told
And everything you had done began to unfold
Through all the hurt, through all the pain
My love for you still remained

As Cassie sings the hook, the music starts to speed up again for the chorus.

I can’t believe that you are not near
To lose you is my every fear
Yet you’re the cause of my every tear
So now as I lay here alone
I realize how foolish I’ve been all along
(And now….)

The background singers come in again to singe the chorus, while Cassie harmonizes one more time to end the song.

I'm tired of wasting my
tears on you
Ooh ohh(wasting my tears on youuuuuu)
I was wrong to trust you (I was wrongggg)
I was wrong to believe when you said (Oh baby when you saidddd)
that I was your dream come true( baby why you have to lie to me)

Cassie harmonizes the last note and the music switches up to Brianna Seasons’ "Down Low". A little breeze blows by and Cassie's hair is blowing through wind. The crowd is going crazy now as Cassie sings her verse of the song.

The chorus approaches and Cassie lets the audience sing the words while she listens. She says in the mic "One more time." The crowd sings the verse a second time as Cassie joins in with them this time. She holds the last note for a long time at the end. When she finishes the crowd screams and Cassie smiles and says "Thank you, I love you all!" She blows kisses and walks off the stage.

Sunday 12, June 2011 - Field Trip Festival
Riot! In The Boulevard

As the previous act leaves the stage, about 5 minutes pass before the next band arrive onstage, drummer Nathan Mullen arrives first, he sticks his thumbs up at the crowd and makes his way over to the drum kit located near the back of the stage, he sits down and starts a drum roll beat. Out walks Jason Greenberg holding his Bass guitar, he waves at the crowd and begins to play a familiar bass intro and as the drums and bass begin to get quicker, pyro sparks fly from the roof of the stage as Justin Mullen runs out onto the stage playing his guitar, accompanied by Amy Meyer.
As she reaches the microphone, the band are now in full swing, playing the highly recognizable introduction to the bands number two hit, Sweet Little Fantasy’s, Amy takes hold of the microphone and shouts, “SOMERSET, I WANNA HEAR YOU SCREAM!!!” as the crowd then erupts as she begins singing the first verse.

“She Wears Her Hair Down Low
She Walks The Streets Once More
She Writes Up Fairytales In Her Head
It’s Tragic, Because They Always End Up Dead

They Said Her Face Could Launch A Thousand Ships
The Guys Were, Desperate To Kiss Her Red Lips
Instead She Walks The Streets, Just Looking For Tips
Show Some Skin Once More, And We’ll Call It Quits.”

Amy Meyer and Justin Mullen are constantly moving around stage in an energetic fashion and as Amy runs back and forth between the band and the front of the stage she screams for the crowd to sing the chorus with her and as it arrives, the place erupts as they sing in unison.

“Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Are Coming Away With Me
Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Are Coming Away With Me

She’s Got …
Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Coming Away With Me
Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Coming Away With Me”

She continue’s to sing and move around the stage throughout the song and the crowd revel in her energetic stage presence as it’s almost a sea of people jumping up and down and cheering for the still relatively new band, but having been in the UK for the best part of two months, the band clearly have a following.
As the song ends, the place briefly goes quiet before the band quickly begin the intro to the next song, their second single, All The Non Believers begins as Amy sings.

“If You Got Nothing
Nothing Worth Fighting For
Then Pick Up Your Stuff
And I’ll Show You The Door

But Don’t Ever Worry, I’ll Be Around
I’ll Come Pick You Up
When Your Feeling Down
And Then There’s One Thing I’ll Say.”

She pauses briefly and directs the microphone towards the crowd for them to sing the next part of the song, the crowd oblige as they sing.

“Don’t Ever Lose Hope
Don’t Ever Worry
Don’t Ever Lose Hope
It’s Our Love Story”

Amy then takes the microphone and sings along with the crowd for the rest of the song, jumping up and down and running around the stage with guitarist Justin Mullen.

“Will You Still Believe In Us
If I Don’t Make A Fuss
Will You Still Believe In Us
If I Don’t Make A Fuss

Because We Are … SOMERSET!!!
We Are … All The Non Believers
We Are … Just Losers And Leavers
We … Are Lovers And Breeders
We Are .. All The Non Belivers.”

UserPostedImage

The crowd are at fever pitch already, twinned with the fact that the band are in very lively form and also the fact that they opened with their two biggest songs, the crowd goes silent as the song ends and they remain fairly silent for the next song which is a much more softer, emotional song. Amy takes the microphone and sits on the edge of the stage as she sings the next song in a softer vocal range.

“Watch Your Step Now Kid, … It’s All In Vein
You Can Try And Try … But You’ll Go Insane
You Are The Winner … And Now It Seems
Your Not The Sinner … You’re The Stuff Of Dreams

You’re The One With The Warn Out Sweater
The Horn Rimmed Glasses, Don’t Make Things Better
I Know Your Life, I Know It Kills
Just Put Down The Knife And Drop The Pills

And The Pathway To Your Life … Has All Potential
We Need All Walks Of Life … Now It’s Essential
You Are The Winner … And So It Seems
Your Not The Sinner … The Stuff Of Dreams.”

She pauses briefly and then stands to her feet, she makes her way back to the centre of the stage and shouts, “One, Two, One, Two, Three, Four.” and begins to jump up and down and continue’s singing.

“You Will, You Will, You Will … SOMERSET!!!
Kiss Goodbye To The Harvest Moon
With A Smile On Your Face … Singing A New Tune
Just Kiss Goodbye To The Harvest Moon
I Won’t Be Home Now, But I’ll Be Back Soon

Kiss Goodbye To The Harvest Moon
Kiss Goodbye To The Harvest Moon
Kiss Goodbye To The Harvest Moon
Hold My Hand And I’ll Be Back Soon”

UserPostedImage

As the song finishes, she walks over to the side of the stage and disappears briefly, then returning holding an acoustic guitar. She walks over to the centre stage and turns and looks at drummer Nathan Mullen and nods at him, cueing him to begin a soft drum beat, before turning to the crowd, she adjusts the microphone and begins to talk. “Have you all had a good weekend … We got one more song for you … it’s the first time we’ve performed it live, so here we go … This is called A Moment, An Hour, A Lifetime” She smiles and nods at Justin and Jason as she begins to play the acoustic guitar, she then begins to sing.

“I’m Playing This Game Called Love
And It’s Messing With My Heart {It’s Messing With My Heart}
I’ll Fight My Instincts, Fight My Feelings
But I’m Just Falling Apart {I’m Just Falling Apart}

I’ll Close My Eyes And Let My Mind Run Free
Holding You Is Where I Long To Be
I’m Trying To Keep Calm And Fight What I Feel
But A Space In Might Heart Is Harder To Heal.”

She steps to the edge of the stage with Justin Mullen and leans in closer towards him, she holds the microphone close to each other and the two sing in unison, as the crowd cheers frantically.

“So If It Takes A Moment To Like
And An Hour To Love
A Lifetime To Forget
Then I Guess It’s Easier To Regret

And I’ll Walk The Streets In The Pitch Black Dark
Hoping To See You Someday, To Re-Ignite This Spark
I’ll Wonder And Wonder, If We’ll Ever Get To Meet
Until That Day Comes, My Heart Will Learn To Beat

So If It Takes A Moment To Like
And An Hour To Love
A Lifetime To Forget
I Guess It’s Easier To Regret.”

UserPostedImage

She continues to sing throughout the song and continues to move back and forth across the stage very energetically. She jumps up and down, encouraging the crowd to join in and as the song draws closer to the end, she stretches her arms out as wide, the band play out the rest of the song and Amy moves puts the microphone back in the stand. Once the music finishes she adjusts the microphone and begins talking. “Thank you all for coming out, it’s been an amazing time out here playing for you all. I hope you’ve all enjoyed the weekend as much as I have. Thank you, We love you all.”
The band make their way out to the centre of the stage and stand hand in hand and take a bow in front of the crowd, before leaving backstage.

Backstage with ElectroDeath

Exactly 3 pm everything was ready for ElectroDeath performance at the Field Trip Festival, this is gonna be the first live performance of the upcoming album the band is about to release in a few months, one minute before the girls were waiting at the backstage...

Magie: Ready to rock the stage girls?

Yulia: Always ready!

Lilly: OMG, every new performance, a very exciting feeling.

The girls looked herself and smiles, the video that was showing at the stage ended… it is time to Electric the stage up!

The Performance

A video started to play after the announcement of ElectroDeath’s performance, the video consist of footages from nature, including forests, oceans, animals, ice, everything the we find in nature, it is showed in flashes while a instrumental electronic ambient sound is played, the vide gets faster as it goes to the end and before it ends the word “WICCA” is showed and finally a very known melody is played.

UserPostedImage

The first melody played is the introduction of the song “Like paradise” which was performed with its original choreography, the girls were wearing leather pants with rock jackets and heavy black makeup also they are followed by their regular five male dancers all of them wearing military outfits, while they switch the singing of the song, in the led screen behind them a footage of psychedelics images is showed.

Magie: How are you guys doing?

**Crowd cheers**

Magie: Nice! Thank you so much for receiving us here!

Yulia: Look, today is almost a rock day at Field Trip Festival…

**crowd cheers again**

Yulia: But also I’m feeling so warmed for you guys, ‘because you know we’re an electronic band!

Lilly: that sounds funny Yulia, but guess what… Is there anyone here that heard any song about a band called “Reported Failure”?

**crowd went crazy!**

Magie: Check this out!

Three microphones at pedestals are posted in the center of the stage and a ska guitar chords is played followed by an electronic drum beat, this song is a cover from Reported Failure song “Manufactured Radio” despite the heavy guitar moments this song bears, the girls turned it into a electric-rock style to fit with their genre, also the vocals are adapted to fit in Yulia’s high notes with Lilly warms vocals to make a contrast, the song is performed in a medley where the girls fit their ”Famou$” song, an old hit from their last album, the cover is probably the most different thing the girls ever made in a live concert, not only because of the rock style it took, but because it is a song from a heavy rock band and a really never mention band by the girls.

The crowd went nuts on their guitar chords featured with the electric drums and some spooky sounds, also there is no choreography at this performance due to the allusion the girls are making to a rock concert, so it is basically the girls singing on their microphone pedestals.
The performance end with the crow completely crazy for what they have heard, when Magie tried to speak something:

Magie: That was cool!

Yulia: We love Reported Failure!

UserPostedImage

Lilly: now we have something very special for our fans!

UserPostedImage

Magie: This last song we are going to perform is our brand new single which we will be premiering at next June 28th.

UserPostedImage

Yulia: this song is called “When your Heart’s is not open”

Magie: Thank you so much guys for receiving us here! We love you all very much!

The song “When your Heart is not open” starts with a soft ambient melody which grows with violins and piano riffs, when Magie starts to sing the first strophe of the song, the girls are only with their microphone in hands, no choreography at this point is performed, only singing and some interaction with crowd. The song bears trip hop elements very different from what the girls have been doing till now, also the ambient sounds grow with the strong percussion the song has all long, lyrics are about religion and what we have to do, to find a real happiness. The performance is followed by ocean scenes behind the girls which are showed at the led screens, the girls also do some modern dance movements, soft and sometimes strange, despite all the different sensations this song brings, the crowd sounded very receptive to it, especially at the break moment the song has, when a big melody of violin is played. The girls ended the performance sending kisses to the crowd and leaving the stage.

SPECIAL PERFORMANCE

As the girls left the stage, at the backstage, the beautiful and lovely girl Abie Lena was waiting a moment to enter the stage.
Magie, her sister, looked at her and said:

Magie: Don’t worry Abie, they’re ready to receive you!

Yulia and Lilly smile at her and finally Abie would be able to show what she is up to. She is gonna give a great performance! Even if she will only perform one song, but is has to be great!

Abie entered the stage almost frozen by her fear, an over 100,000 thousand crowd looking at her, she was wearing a short black dress with her hair in bun, she faced the crow, while that she looked behind the pedestal she was in front, straight to her band mates, her stomach was reverted, her eyes were dried, she was shaking, but now she could not hesitate anymore, she send the sign and a beautiful piano riff is played, it has a influence from 60s old jazz songs, almost a cabaret feeling, it was melted some seconds before with a soft drums and a sad violin sound, when Abie started to sing the first phrases of the song.

UserPostedImage

Her voice is so beautiful and unusual, so strong and high, that almost everybody at the crowd shut their mount up. She realized that she had everyone in her feet, that’s when she felt so confidence that she sung the chorus of the song with so much strength that the crowd started to cheers at her, that was her moment, in a simple base melody she raised her voice and dominated the whole crowd, without even saying her name, or what song she was about to perform. As the song was going to its end she started to feel so emotional by all the feeling that she was passing that moment that she dropped some tears, but it didn’t affect her amazing vocal notes, that was when she said the last phrase of the song, and for exactly two minutes the crowd cheered at her, letting her only to say a few things:

Abie: Hi I’m Abie Lena, that was “That could Night” and thank you very much!

She left the stage almost running, she was going to hold her sister Magie at the backstage, when she reached her, she said in Magie’s ear:

Abie: “Do you think mom would be proud of us?”
Magie just hold her sisters tighter, when Yulia and Lilly in affective way hugged the two sisters.

ElectroDeath’s set list
1- Like Paradise
2- Electric-rock medley: Manufactured Radio / Famou$
3- When Your Heart’s Not Open
Abie Lena set list:

Fathers of Fury Live at Field Trip Festival - Sunday 12th June 2011

Fathers of Fury walk onto the stage, the four of them smile and wave at the fans. They are a little bit late, so Jack decides that not to talk, but signals for the first song instead. The four of them seem to be holding purely acoustic instruments today, nothing electronic looking at all. The drums are quite far forward on the stage and the guitarists are all sat on chairs.
The three guitars pluck the same notes to start the song, and then Freddie starts to hit the drums slowly; thus creating a slow rhythm. Jack starts to sing his soft, controlled vocals as the song moves forwards.
The chorus arrives and the power that Jack uses lifts him off his chair and he is now standing with his face pressed right up to the microphone as he continues to strum at his guitar. The chorus finishes and Jack calms down; he does not sit back down though.
The next verse is just like the first again, and the chorus is again emotionally charged. Jack lets go of his guitar to hold onto the microphone. He rubs his hair with his hand as he harmonises with Ollie and Isaac to finish the song off.

A rush of applause comes from the thousands of people who have come to the festival. Jack smiles, “Hello everybody! We are sorry for being late – no excuses, just late. That was The American Dream. And now, to continue out acoustic set, we are gonna play Rolling On.” Not many of the audience will know many of these songs, unless they come to the tour, as the album is still not out, and won’t be for two weeks, but they still give the song a warm welcome as if it was an old favourite.
Ollie plays an acoustic version of the introductory riff; and Freddie joins in part way through. Isaac and Jack join in towards the end of the riff, which then leads into the first verse. Jack is moving around the stage, but gets back to the microphone in time to start his powerful vocal performance. The chorus comes around and both Isaac and Ollie harmonise with him; helping to emphasise Jack’s voice more. Under the chorus, the music is faster and harder, yet still has the acoustic twang to it. The song goes quite smoothly, and uneventfully. It finishes to a loud applause from the audience.

“Okay, two more tracks. We are gonna have to play them back to back so that we don’t run into Katie Coyle’s set. So they are called Home or Away and Days of Old. Buy the album on the 25th!!!” The drums are light and as is the bass guitar, Jack’s vocals are quiet as he starts to sing. The music gradually starts to build up as the other guitars join in.
The chorus comes around and Jack yet again switches on the power. His voice is so clear and powerful, and then he hits a massive note and holds it for at least 15 seconds. There is then a brief instrumental break where Ollie comes to the front of the stage and has a thrash about with his acoustic guitar.
The song continues, and some of the fans join in with the next chorus, which helps to keep Jack smiling. He loves to perform; it is really what music is all about.
The song comes to an end, and then a piano introduction starts playing. Some of the fans had seen Jenny Hudson walk onto the stage and cheered, but not many. The piano introduction continues the whole way through the song, and Jenny can be seen to be moving to the music at the back.
Days of Old is a very basic song, as Jack sings over only the piano, and then only the piano and rhythm guitar. It helps the audience, to understand how simple music can be beautiful too. The song is lifted by the drums when they come in at the chorus; and it is a lot faster from there onwards.
Everything goes quiet except the piano and Jack closes his eyes and holds the microphone. He whispers the words ‘Days of Old’ four times, gradually getting louder each time. Freddie then crashes on the symbols and the chorus comes back around and is sung twice.
The song comes slowly to a close with only the piano again. Jack holds his hand up to the audience and quickly thanks them before they leave the stage.

1. American Dream
2. Rolling On
3. Home or Away
4. Days of Old

As the sun starts to set in the background of the stage a theatrical intro begins to play over the loud speakers and Matt runs onto the stage with touring members, Mike and Joseph. As the three run onto the stage the crowd yells and begins to get crazy with the anticipation of seeing Suburban Sunrise. As Matt hit’s a deep power chord the crowd yells and the violin intro to “Take Your Own Love” begins to play. As all the instruments come in hard Nicole runs on to the stage and begins jumping. As she runs onto the stage the fans begin screaming and yelling. Through the song the band is jumping up and down and feeding off the energy from the crowd. As the song ends the crowd cheers and Matt goes straight into the intro of the hit SS single “Vulture.” As Matt hit’s the hard intro the crowd begins to get out of control and people begin to crowd surf and are jumping on top of one another. As the song slows down towards the end a security guard yells something at Nicole

Nicole: Well hello there Somerset! We are Suburban Sunrise how are you guys feeling today? Crowd cheers Well mr security guard just told me to tell you guys to calm down a little because you are going to crazy. Boo’s from the crowd erupt Ya but we are here to party so fuck that! I think you guys need to get crazier for this song! This is an old one its called “Lines!”

UserPostedImage

As Nicole yells at the crowd they scream! As soon as they hear the hard bang on the floor tom they scream and people open up three mosh pits throughout the crowd. Through the song more and more people begin to crowd surf and all the security guards are getting pissed off. As the band plays the song Nicole goes over to the barrier and reaches into the crowd and continues to sing the song. As she tries to pull away from the crowd numerous people grab onto her arm and make it hard for her to pull away. When they finally let go, Nicole climbs back onto the stage. When the song ends a piano intro begins to play over the speakers. The intro is one that the crowd has never heard before but as the odd intro ends it hit’s the piano intro for “2 Birds, 1 Stone.” As the instruments come in most of the crowd cheers and people continue to crowd surf and jump but as the band looks out into the crowd they notice that a lot of people have slowed down and don’t seem very interested in the song. As the song comes to an end the crowd cheers

UserPostedImage

Matt: England! Crowd cheers Have you guys had fun today? Yells come from the crowd Lets hear it for Riot! In Boulevard, The Jason Smith Band, and our friends Fathers Of Fury! The crowd erupts as Matt yells out the names And after us you guys have our good friends The Dead Roses! Yells from the crowd come from every direction AND! The big guy Mr. Ryan Ross Hernandez lets hear for him! As the entire crowd yells it sounds like a giant car crash is going on Alright well right now we are going to play a new song for you guys. This song is called “Might Not Make It!”

The crowd screams as Matt and Nicole play the guitar/ vocal intro. As the chorus hit’s the crowd goes crazy and multiple pits open up and the crowd begins to jump over each other and crowd surf. As the band plays the song Matt walks over to the edge of the stage and looks out into the crowd, laughs and smiles then turns around and continues to rock out. As the song ends the entire crowd yells and screams out of excitement

Nicole: You guys are amazing! And I see the pits that have opened up and im liking that shit! But if your going to have pits lets get some chicken fights! Grab someone put them on your shoulders and try to push each other off! Haha alright lets get fucking insane on three. One… Two… THREE!

When Nicole yells out three the heavy hitting sound of “The Leaving Scene” begins to play and people start to push each other of each others shoulders and people begin to pile up on the ground and some people are getting hurt and are taken out of the crowd. As the band plays the song the crowd continues to jump on each other and crowd surf. As the song comes to an end the band goes straight into “Doesn’t Mean It’s Legal.” As the crowd notices what song it is they jump up and down and begin to pick back up the energy. People are somehow getting passed the security guards and jumping onto the stage. For most of the fans wanting to get close to the band get tackled and taken off the stage and kicked out of the area. For those who don’t get hit begin to stage dive and jump off of the stage. As the band continues to play the song Nicole stops as the head of security tells Nicole to have the crowd calm down or they would be cut off. As the song ends the crowd claps and screams

Nicole Holy fuck! You guys are really pissing off these security guards! They said if you don’t relax they are going to cut us off Boos fill the crowd But who gives a fuck we only have one more song for you guys so get the craziest you have been today. If you know it I want to hear you sing it! Its called “Song In The Dark.”

UserPostedImage

As the band hit’s the opening riff the crowd goes crazier then they have all day! So many people are crowd surfing and getting over the barrier that they are knocking down some of security guards. Some people in the crowd continue to jump onto the stage only to get stopped by security on the side of the stage. As the song get close to the end Nicole and Mat run over and jump onto the barrier. As the song ends Matt throws his guitar into the crowd hitting a fan on the top of their head and then both he and Nicole jump into the crowd. As they both get back onto the stage Nicole grabs Matts mic off the stand.

Nicole: You guys are fucking awesome! Thank you so much for coming out we are going to be at our merch tent so come say hello! Thank you all so much we love you! Goodnight!

DEAD ROSES' FIELD TRIP FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE

Dead Roses take the stage to a loud reception from the audience. Jay screams into the microphone, "HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING TONIGHT?!?!"
The crowd liven up even more, Taylor and Jake stand in the background just playing some random riffs on their guitars. "This song is the first song that we ever released, this is Chased Down"
They play chased down, the song is sped up a lot more than the studio version, with the crowd making circle pits and mosh pits during the breakdown. As the song finishes, Jake stands on the front of stage speakers and starts playing a guitar solo, Taylor then also jumps onto the front of stage speakers and they both play a melodic guitar solo together, the bass drum beats in the background and once they finished it, they go straight into There's No I In Team, But There's An M And An E. Once they finish, Jay grabs the microphone. "Most of you may be familiar with us by now, maybe one of the most under-rated bands in the business, this is our last performance in Sommerset, and our second to last performance as a band. We've been around for a few years now, and you should all know by now that we fucking love you guys. But for now, we wanna see you fucking move! This is Common Mistakes and Modern Heartbreaks"
They go into Common Mistakes, the crowd go insane while listening to it, and during the breakdown, the crowd clap in time with the slowed down bass drum. During the song, Taylor jumps off the stage, and right infront of the fans, he messes up his solo due to a fan knocking his hand off the guitar, but gets back into the solo, taking a few photos with the fans, he then gets back onto the stage and finishes the song with them. Taylor and Jacob grab their acoustic guitars and sit down on two chairs on the stage, they then go into an acoustic version of Seeing Negative Visions Part 1, and after they play Part 2 with their electric guitars. There is a sense of good and evil between the two songs, with Part 1 being a lighter, more calm song, and Part 2 being very heavy and agressive, possibly one of the closest songs to Heavy Metal that Dead Roses have done since their second album, God Burnt The Devil. "For this next song, we want everyone to go fucking mental, we want more circle pits, mosh pits and walls of death, this is a song off of the new album, this is There's No Sympathy For The Sypathetic!", Jay screams into the microphone.
The crowd prepare the circle pits and as the heavy riff of the song starts, they all collide together, even some fights starting in the crowd, during the breakdown, Jay swings the microphone and catches Callum just above the eye with it accidentally, cutting his forehead open wide, but they continue the song fine. After the song, a medic comes onto the stage and quickly puts a bandage around his head, covering the wound. "Haha, I didn't mean to do that, I swear." Jay cheerfully speaks into the microphone, the band laugh with him, including Callum. "We've got time for two more songs! And this one is called Getting Away With Murder"
The band play Getting Away With Murder, the crowd don't catch along with the unpredictable beat difference between the verse and chorus, but enjoy it still, after that, they go straight into their final song, Just Close Your Eyes. After the song, Taylor grabs the microphone, "Thank you guys so fucking much, you guys are an awesome crowd, I hope you enjoy watching Ryan Ross Hernandez now. Thank you, and god bless you fucking all!"
The band exit the stage and leave through the crowd.

INTRO Rant / You Don't Know Who I Think I Am When I'm Not Myself / City Made of Vultures

UserPostedImage

The crowd is still a buzz from the last band, but are now all anxiously awaiting for the headlining act to perform. Tonight's act was no stranger to the big stages, but the Field Trip Festival meant playing to the biggest crowd he has ever performed in front overseas. The lights raise just two minutes past nine o'clock in the evening. The audience can now see the decor of the stage, nothing really signals for a highly theatrical show, but it can be predicted that a lot of musicians are going to be on stage at one time. About sixteen chairs are placed at one side of the stage with violins and cellos placed in every other, beside it there's three microphones standing with a saxophone in the middle and two trumpets beside it. At the other end of the stage, there's a small stand with three microphones placed on it. Just behind center stage, a drum set can be seen, with a double keyboard and organ set up near it. At center stage of course, there's the first of the stage with a rug, which everyone who's ever been to a Ryan Ross Hernandez concert, knows that there is where the guitar extraordinaire will be jamming. Two other rugs are set on either side with space between them, designed for the other two guitarists and the bassist.

At just past 9:03 PM, Ryan Ross Hernandez walks out onto the stage, dressed in some usual favorites, a leather jacket and baggy black pants with an acoustic guitar hanging from his back. He leads the way, as a crowd of musicians follow behind him, each going to their place. Aside from his traditional band composed of a drummer, two guitarists, a bassist, and a keyboard/organ player; he also has joining him tonight, a sixteen piece string orchestra, two trumpeters, a saxophonist, and three female back-up vocalists/dancers. Of course, the England crowd showers the singer-songwriter-guitarist in a sea of love and praise, from cheers and applause to crazy women shouting, 'I love you Ryan!'. Hernandez stands in center stage, looking out at the 150,000 people standing before him. He turns the acoustic guitar and places it in front of his body, leaning into the microphone and saying over the cheers, "Good evening. How are you all doing tonight?" There's no need to ask that question as the crowd is a buzz already.

"Before we start playing, I wanna say thank you. Thank you all for sticking around. Over six hours you've all been here, and to see you all still here just to see me play some songs, gives me the most heartwarming feeling world. And.... and I can't thank you enough for that, but I'll try my best by playing a lot of music for you guys." Ryan says with a smile, as he swiftly swipes his fingers past the strings on his guitar.

"Wow. I, I just need a minute. This view is amazing. How many people we got here? 150 thousand? I didn't fucking know I had that many fans in the UK. [chuckles] Well no, I'm gonna roughly estimate that 75 thousand of you are of the female gender, so you ladies are the real fans. All the dudes here are either stuck somewhere in the middle and can't get out, or they were dragged here by their girlfriend or wife or lady friend. If you're in the latter category, I promise you this music is going to turn your woman on, and you'll get the best sex of your life when you get home. Hell, she might even give you a little quickie in the car." He adds with a laugh, partly referring to a tweet he made earlier in the week, saying that his set list at the festival would cause women spontaneous orgasms. "Coincidentally, we are opening this set with a song that I wrote after I had the best sex of my life."

And with a sly smirk, not another second is wasted before the crashing sounds of cymbals and a loud, steady drum beat is heard through the PA system. The audience cheers knowing that Hernandez is opening the show with the breezy California rock summer song, You Don't Know Who I Think I Am When I'm Not Myself. They quickly join in and start clapping to the beat, as Ryan starts to play the opening riff, with the trumpets and saxophone joining in. At the end of singing every verse, he adds a string of 'woah's'. Actual drumming begins when the chorus hits, the entire band now playing their respective instruments, except for the orchestra, to create a sharp sounding instrumentation, perfect for kicking off the summer. During the breakdown of the song, Ryan's fast finger picking on the acoustic guitar, his helped by the booming horn section. Ryan starts to improvise scat singing. By the end of the song, the entire audience is clapping along, singing every line along with Ryan, and odd ladies dancing in the middle of a crowd.

Now he has the audience completely on his side. He hands his acoustic guitar off to his guitar tech who gives him his signature custom, beaten up black electric guitar, known as 'The Black One'. Ryan leans down in front of the mic stand and reaches for a red plastic cup, which he takes a sip out of. He makes a face, placing the cup back down. "Damn, that's some strong orange juice," he says with a faint laugh adding, "and by orange juice, I mean tequila. Cheers." Ryan starts to play a fairly simple guitar riff, to get his tune, before turning around and signaling to the rest of the band. "It's gonna be a long night in England too," he sings in falsetto before a some very funky drumming is heard by way of Steve Jordan. Ryan goes towards the female backing vocalists/dancers, and drops an improvised short dance, which the females in the audience go crazy for. He starts to play a bluesy guitar riff, making way back to his mic stand, and begins to sing City Made of Vultures, a favorite among fans. He sings the chorus in a high falsetto voice, joined by the backing singers to keep him on key. The song features a lot of solos from most of the musicians, not just Ryan. Before the second chorus, the instruments drop as an organ solo is played by Charlie Wilson. For the breakdown of the song, the backing vocalists sing the chorus acapella with the crowd joining in, as Ryan provides another scat singing along. For the breakdown of the song, with the drums tuned down, Ryan goes to his bandmate and guitarist David Ryan Harris as they have a little guitar solo dual-off to round off the song, with the drums crashing to mark the end of the song.

Ain't No Sunshine / Perfect Loneliness / Teenage Dream

The guitar tech rushes back on stage, taking the guitar Ryan was just playing but placing it on a stand nearby. He gives him a cherry red electric Gibson guitar. Ryan wastes no time and quickly begins to play some funk-inspired riffs, as the now red-colored lights beside the stage shine on him and the band. "Hold on, let me get my groove on. Oooooh," he says tossing his guitar pick into the crowd and quickly taking another one off the microphone stand. He continues to play the same riff, just by himself, before leaning into the mic and singing;

"Ain't no sunshine when she's gone.
It's not warm when she's away.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she's always gone too long anytime she goes away."

From hearing just the first line, the audience cheers and start to echo each word behind Ryan's voice. After the first verse, the drums and bass join him to create an extremely funky sounding cover of the classic Bill Withers song. Ain't No Sunshine. After singing the second verse, the deep bass line leaves, just to let Ryan's guitar playing take center stage in front of a constant drum beat. His hands fingers moving swiftly along the guitar, really playing the first big sounding guitar solo of the night. Ryan's guitar playing seems at its best when it's just clean lines and no effects, at this point sounding crisp and sharp. He drops to his knees continuing the spectacular guitar solo, by now echoing in everyone's ears, before bobbing his head along to the solo, his riffs just begging for the classic 'I Know,' phrase to be repeated over and over again. He is singing them on his knees, inaudible to the audience before getting back up on his feet and starts to sing again, ending the over three minute guitar solo.

"I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know

Hey, I ought to leave the pretty young thing alone,
But ain't no sunshine when she's gone, only darkness everyday.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone,
And this house just ain't no home anytime she goes away."

"Break it way down low," he tells the drummer, as he finishes it off the song singing falsetto the last phrase of the song a few times, ending the song off as it started. Another guitar is handed by the tech to Ryan, this time a white electric fender.

"Who here is single and their heart hurts. [a large amount of cheering is heard] Nah, see. See, I just identified a huge problem in this crowd. You shouldn't have your heart hurting tonight. Let's make the heart hurting stop for the next hundred and sixty minutes. Let's see all the beautiful things we do have, all the places we can go, all the things that make this loneliness of the perfect nature."

Ryan finishes it speaking as the audience cheers, noticing that he is alluding in a cleaver way to his own song, Perfect Loneliness (I Don't Belong to Anyone). He plays the loud opening riff to the upbeat song, from the looks of things, Ryan is only bringing out the fan favorites tonight and not playing songs according to how high they charted on the charts. The entire band joins him, the backing vocalists again joining in the chorus of the song, the drumming kept to a steady but constant beat. At the bridge of the song, Ryan's vocals are loud and powerful, not pitch perfect but he doesn't seem to care nor does the crowd. The backing vocalists continue to sing behind him, as he goes towards another one of his guitarists, this time England's own Robbie McIntosh as they trade off riffs. The whole band ends in sync once Ryan stops playing his guitar, ending it in a long-winded nature.

Ryan Ross Hernandez laughs as he looks down at the set list beside the microphone stand. "You just saw me laugh because I just looked down at the set list and you are all gonna like this one." He nods at Steve Jordan as he starts to play a slow paced drum beat, that sounds familiar. A bass line quickly follows, before Ryan starts to play a smooth jazz riff on his guitar. "This song is by one of the few women in Hollywood, that I haven't been able to have sex with.... Yet." He continues to play the riff and starts to sing a song that mostly everyone in the audience knows.

"You think I'm pretty
Without any makeup on
You think I'm funny
When I tell the punchline wrong
I know you get me
So I let my walls come down, down"

Yes, Ryan Ross Hernandez is covering Teenage Dream, by Katy Perry. He backs away from the mic after singing the first verse to chuckle before returning to sing. Up to until the chorus, it's just Ryan's voice and guitar riff, drumming, and bass. When the chorus begins the horn section comes in to add even more spice to this jazz cover of the song. "Ladies, I want you all to sing this next part. I have to maintain some sort of masculinity."

"I'mma get your heart racing
In my skin tights jeans
Be your teenage dream tonight
Let you put your hands on me
In my skin tight jeans
Be your teenage dream tonight"

A sea of female voices, added along to his own backing vocalists vocals. Before the last chorus, all the instrument drop, just leaving Ryan to play a smooth jazz solo along with the looping trumpets and saxophone. He goes back to the mic and opens his throat wide singing and holding the "Yoooouuuuu," in the last chorus before letting his backing vocalists do their thing as he continues play the solo. He finishes it off standing in front of the drum set, both trading off beats and ending together.

[size=7You Don't Know How It Feels (Tom Petty cover) > Fight On Until the Darkness Overtakes You / Hold On, Hold On; I Don't Trust Myself
[/size]

The lights dim down, with a shuffle going on stage. A guitar tech takes Ryan's Fender telecaster guitar and again hands him an acoustic guitar. He is also brought out a harmonica which he places around his neck. The lights are brought up after a minute, showing the Ryan and his band once again. Ryan swiftly passes his fingers across the guitar before playing a more steady riff along with some harmonica.

"So let's get to the point, let's roll another joint
And turn the radio loud, I'm too alone to be proud
You don't know how it feels
Yeah, you don't know how it feels to be me"

He plays a short Tom Petty covering, serving as the intro to Fight On Until the Darkness Overtakes You, which he quickly starts to play following it. The song is electric on the album, but is more stripped down here and given a folk sound to it with the harmonica. It is also the first time in the set that the orchestra is heard, behind Ryan's vocals and Steve's drumming. Ryan gives his vocals a hint of country to it, ending every high note with a bit of a grunt. Towards the breakdown of the song, instead of playing a solo on guitar, he plays harmonica with some guitar tapping added to it. He starts one of his famous banters after, with drumming, bass, and backing guitars still continuing to play behind him as he rants.

[/i]"You know, somewhere along the way, somebody or some group of people instructed us that it is possible to feel okay all of the time. That the human body or the human mind should normally behave appropriately at all times and if there is even any part of your day or week or month that falls short of feeling one hundred percent that there is something wrong with you. Let me tell you what happens to everybody but they won't talk about it because they feel like it's only them, but it's everybody. Everybody freaks out. I wanna show you something."[/i] He reaches into his pocket and takes out a pill.

"That's a Xanax, .5 milligrams. You know why I keep going to my doctor to ask for more? Not because I take them. Because I run them through the laundry. These do not go in my bloodstream. These go through my plumbing. But I've got my .5 in my pocket in case I freak the fuck out in front of all of you, 150,000 people. Get a shot of this." Ryan drops the Xanax pill on the ground, crushes it with his sneaker.

"If you wanna freak out, freak out. If you feel like all of the sudden you feel like you're six and you want to cry and you don't know why, just go do it. Let's everybody just accept everyone else is going to freak out. Yeah, everyone's going to freak out. You're not going to be one hundred percent all the time! Hey, could somebody get me another Xanax, please? Yes, let me make it easy for you. You're going to freak out. You're going to have at least one moment per week where you don't feel right. Maybe it doesn't feel so wrong if you know that it's kind of supposed to happen to you. It is the other side of being conscious and loving, that there are going to be times you're going to have to 'hit control alt delete.' You're just going to have to take a moment. You might be walking through the airport, you might be having the time of your life. In fact, it's more likely to happen during the time of your life. You might sit down in Cabo, put your feet in the sand, crack open a Corona and go 'ugh!' That's you not letting yourself have a good time. And I guarantee there's someone out here in the show tonight who's sitting there going like 'I need to use the bathroom and I wanna go home.' Me too! Nobody wants to use the bathroom and go home more than me and I gotta play on stage every night! So what I'm trying to say to you, is fight on."

Ryan starts to play his guitar again, singing the chorus one final time. With that added rant, the performance lasted ten minutes more than it normally should, but the crowd still seems to love him. The lights go out again on stage, this time for a longer period of time as the band heads back stage for a quick breather.

The Halfhearted Lover > I'm On Fire (Bruce Springsteen cover) / Something's Missing / The Story of a Misunderstood Man

The audience cheers as the lights rise and the band is back on stage, a few dim lights stay on Ryan's figure. He now has a Rick Turner Model 1 Guitar, strikingly similar to the model guitar Lindsay Buckingham uses with Fleetwood Mac. Ryan swiftly adjusts it around his back with the guitar strap. "We got a couple more for you before we call it a night. This is the part of the set I like to call, "'The Radio Hits,' these are the ones that have been number one or two on the charts. The award winners."

He simply says, with a smile creeping on the corner of his lips as he puts his ear pieces that were hanging around his ear back inside them. Hernandez steps back from the microphone and coughs as he plays a few notes to make sure his guitar is in tone for the song about to be played. Despite the bare light on him, it's visible to see another microphone stand being set up and placed a few feet next to his own. He turns his back to the crowd and counts the band down, as they dive in the play the breezy, California pop/rock song, The Halfhearted Lover. For this performance, Hernandez's keyboardist is seen now in the background, joining the band once. The lights return to give a full display of the stage and backing band. The second this song begins, there is no one left sitting down in the audience, everyone is on their feet. Hernandez even moves his body in a dancing matter, along with the melody as he plays his guitar parts, which sends the women in attendance in a complete frenzy. Ryan steps forward to the mic, starting to sing the song that reached number one twice for him. He finishes it off the song, singing a part of Bruce Springsteen's classic hit song, "I'm On Fire".

"Tell me pretty baby is he good to you
Can he do to you the things that I do now
Gonna take you high
Oooh, oooh, oooh
I'm on fire
Oooh, oooh, oooh
I'm on fire"

A laid-back drum beat is played by drummer Steve Jordan, it is just played alone for a good 20-seconds or so before Ryan gets on the microphone again. "It ain't your TV, though it's fun to laugh at people sometimes. It ain't your computer, though it's nice to spend the whole night online. It's not your movies, I see the same damn storyline. It's only music now. It's only music now."

As soon as Ryan finishes his sentence a distorted low-pitched bassline joins in with the drums. Soon later Hernandez starts playing a quick and clean guitar riff, giving sign that he is starting to perform Something's Missing from his debut solo record. In a melodic tone he uses the wah-wah pedal before diving into singing. A red light illuminates the stage along with the limelight that was already in place. The basslines progress to a much cleaner tone while the drums don't change much from the start, only with the occasional cymbals added here and there. Ryan sings in a more registered deep voice rather than his regular falsetto vocal register. By the bridge, the performance turns into a all-out electric blues jam by then Ryan goes back to relying in his lady-loved falsetto voice. From there his vocals to very melodic charming from as low as Elvis Costello-like vocals to as high as Prince, probably Ryan giving a little shot at those who say he doesn't have range in his music since he relies on his guitar playing for much of his music. Hernandez plays a guitar solo right before the outro, much quicker than the rest of the riffs he played during the progression of the song. Afterward his riffs slowdown, just enough that they echo through the arena. The well-known 'checklist' outro for Something's Missing is where it goes back-and-forth with the vocals from Ryan to the audience.

A soft piano intro is heard in the background, Ryan leans forward and starts to speak once again. "I would like to take this moment to thank everyone who stuck around this long, and stayed just to see this man and this band, do what they love. Which is just play music, and we'd be doing it just this way, be if we were playing for 150 people or 150,000 people."

"This is gonna sound really corny but you know, everyone needs someone in their life to love and love them back. It's just this need humans have, and I'm not just talking about sex. I've had a lot of sex in my life but I've never really had love, which the two should go hand in hand, but sometimes it doesn't work that way. I've learned a lot about love, and sex, and relationships. We've all been in relationships where love has walked out the door or never enter the room altogether. We know the truth, yet we still hold on in hope or in desperation to make it grow there. That is an emotional well that is so deep, it almost breaks your soul. Forget your heart, your heart is gone at that point. This is a song about how I hurt somebody really bad, so bad that if they were a singer/songwriter, they would have written this song about me and for me."

The piano ends in sync with the ending of his rant. The lights dim down to achieve a more personal setting, with the orchestra coming into play for the second time in the night, bringing a haunting sound from just the string section. It's followed by the drums, bass, and guitars respectively. The light rise up again once Ryan starts to play the opening guitar solo, letting everyone know that it's The Story of a Misunderstood Man. He showed off a swirling guitar work repertoire, with the huge instrumentation behind him to create booming sound. His vocals sound as crisp as ever, really saving the best for last. While he sings, he continues to play a circular guitar riff. At any rate, Hernandez always returns to his defining vocal gesture - the line that slides down like a contented sigh or up like a raised eyebrow, giving his beloved hits their air of easy intimacy, it's tempered by a plaintive, sweet melancholy that carries plenty of emotion and meaning.

"One too many nights were the ones that
Once revolved around you
Recollect all the shattered pieces
Praying this home won't fall through, again
All my friends accused me of losing my mind

But I swore I could handle it

You sing me a song of how beautiful we could one day be
But you go back one day and turn it into a goodbye song
And I lived in your dark twisted games for one day too long
But you promised me every night that the grass would get greener eventually
Wonderin' which gray shade of you I might get on the phone, tonight
Well I stopped calling back and this song is to let you know why"

At this point a sea of arms are seen from the immense crowd at hand, each one echoing behind Ryan's every vocal, to such extent that the crowd vocals nearly overpower the audibility of Ryan's own voice through the PA system. A pedal steel is now added to the mix, adding even a greater amount of mournfulness to the already slow burning kiss off of a ballad. All the instrumentation quickly starts to build up and become more powerful towards at the bridge of the song.

"You are a philosopher at sorry
And making women blind with your wit and charm
Never impressed by someone who figures you out
All the girls that you've ruined have lifeless eyes
Cause you burned them out

But I stopped your games
Before fire could catch me
So don't look down
I'm shining over your sad, lonely town"

Ryan held onto the final note, but as soon as he finishes, the audience is caught by surprise because of the fireworks that fly from above the stage. Giving meaning to the shining reference in the song. Ryan dives into an emotionally charged guitar solo, not even singing the final chorus or for that matter getting so invested in the solo that he forgot about it. "You sing it," he tell the audience who don't need to be told twice as they sing in union the final chorus, as Ryan finishes off the night with a soft guitar whisper, before the song comes to a complete halt.

Ryan Ross Hernandez nods with a smirk as he looks out at the huge audience. "Thank you so much! We love you all! Goodnight." He takes a quick bow and gives the audience a round of applause before the lights go out one final time as Hernandez and the band head off the stage.
