BEN WILLER UNPLUGGED-

With RNB artist, Chanel Devine

[looks straight into a zoom camera]

Chanel: If you girls and guys are wondering what is Ben Willer Unplugged, while, it's epsoide seperated into four parts full with 15 questions that my interviewer, Stacey Wilds will ask me based on my past life, music and inspiration. This unplugged show is free questions, no script or dilogue. You get to know more about me, my music and most of all- how life inspired me to do music. It's a rocky ride on my life. You even get to see my first live performance on my single, " All I Ever Wanted" here on Ben Willer Unplugged. Sit back and get to know me, Chanel Devine only here on BenWillerTV.

[Before the camera switches to the platrom where Stacey Wilds sits in a white couch along with Chanel with a short black dress on and red heels with a red leather jacket that stops at her upper-waist. It plays " All I Ever Wanted" in the background as the camera rests on the two]

Stacey: Chanel Devine, I been waiting all morning for this interview.
Chanel: Girl, who you tellin' I'm so excited to talk to you.
Stacey: I have to ask you, why are you so pretty?
Chanel: My mother. I got my looks from her. People always say, " girl you got yo looks from your daddy!" and I'm not, no! I look like my mother baby.
Stacey: (laughs) Was your dad around when you was growing up?
Chanel: Eh. I mean, my dad was the type he believed in his daughters should be all tough, like boys because my dad has six brothers. All my uncles, all crazy, get on my nerves, but I love them. My dad had a drinking promblem, he will drive until the crack of midnight and always will start fights with my mom. Ever demanding father, he liked everything smoothly. If you fucked up, you wll get yelled or cursed at. He wasnt voilence, he just believed when a man worked hard to support his family; they should do anything they can do support him and do what he says. He was there all my childhood.
Stacey: Did you like your dad when he drank?
Chanel: Oh no. It was like a darn tornado that hit Austin,TX. Just BOOM! When he gets mad, because when he will drink, different emotions and different memories he will bring up just because he was angry. Him and my mom always argued or fought about something, shit, if it wasnt food, bills or us, the kids. It will the marriage. Everytime, he will fight with my mom. Me, being the smart one, because my sister, Erica just cried. I just ran my black self in wash room's closet, bring me a book and read until it's over.
Stacey: Why did you do that? You didnt want to see it?
Chanel: I didnt want to see my mom cry. I was a mommy's baby. Everywhere my mom went, I was like her shadow. My little self was right there behind her! No itches, no distance, stick on her like glue girl! I loved my mommy and I didnt want to see her hurt.
Stacey: What was the worst fight with your parents?
Chanel: It's horrible to remember these things. I remember when my dad just came home from the club, my mom left me, my sister Erica
and my mom went out with some friends and lied to my dad and said she was home. He find out someway because my dad wasnt no stupid ass man- he did found out things I was really curious to see how did he found out. When I will go out to parties without my parents knowing; I had a hell of a fight with my dad. But anyway, He walked in and close my mom's room door and I'm thinking, maybe sex? (laughs) but that's wasnt the case. I just heard a bottle being thrown and a lot of screaming and moving in the room. After she kicked my dad out for the millioned time, I went in the room and saw 6 or 7 holes in the walls, pictures broken, TV cracked and her necklance he gave her on the anniversity was on the floor- broken.
Stacey: Wow. Did that effect you in anyway?
Chanel: Of course. Sometimes I will always ask my mom this question, " Why dont you and dad get along? Why you always fightin'" and she will always say, " A woman never fights, she battles." Never got a answer and it will always piss me off.
Stacey: Why?
Chanel: Because I wanted them to get along. I was really tried at the tender age of 8, I was just sick and tired of the fighting. Like, got damn! CAN WE GO ONE NIGHT WITHOUT glass breaking? ONE NIGHT, without screaming, waking me up because I had to go to school the next morning. It was like a nightmare, but I was awake when dreaming it.
Stacey: I mean, what was good days for you guys?
Chanel: Good days was if dad will be sober all day. (laughs) if he gets a beer or wine in his hands, while, that's over. Let's get ready for some fights, glass breaking. I will always tell my sister, while, it's looks like we are not doing anything today. We will stay inside and just watch TV and hear my dad argue for NOTHING.
Stacey: Days you just wanted to run away?
Chanel: YES! But to who? My grandmother is from and lives in New Orleans, my dad side was in San Antonio, TX; My mom family was miles away so if I wanted to run away, I couldnt because I knew I will have to face my mom will I got back home. Yikes.
Stacey: Did you ever go spend time with the other side of the family and relatives?
Chanel: My mom was the type of woman, she didnt want her promblems to show in front of people. She believed all promblems have to be sloved because bringing happiness OUT. So the only time we will go out and see relatives or ANYWHERE, was when promblems, money was right and we was happy.
Stacey: So do you even know your relatives as much?
Chanel: I spent summers with my grandma in New Orleans, almost every summer; My mom will send me and my sister up there to spend time with my grandmother.
Stacey: How is your grandmother?
Chanel: A sweet woman, a storyteller. She will always sit her on her lap and tell Lousiania folktales, childhood stories when she was growing up. Her name was Odeal Merin Jones, (shakes head, then smiles) I loved my grandmother.
Stacey: Is she still living?
Chanel: Died a year ago, but I smiled when she died. At the funerel, because I knew, she will not wanted her to be sad she was gone because she was goin' to be here no matta WHAT!
Stacey: Do you think sometimes she is still with you?
Chanel: Always. I can always feel when my grandmother is blessing me with her presence. (grins)
Stacey: We will be back with more Chanel Devine ladies and gentleman!

[Looks into camera]

Chanel: You guys dont want to miss my part two of my interview where I talk about how my grandma influeced my music, my voice and talent and oh bad bad- boys, school, growing up. Here we go, (smiles) That is all next on Ben Willer Unplugged with your girl, Chanel Devine!

Cassie: Great interview girl! I just love your personality. It's so sad that you had to hear your parents fighting while you were growing up. That's such a horrible thing for someone so young to have to hear.

Dominic: What up girl? Nice little interview and I'll be looking out for part two.

BEN WILLER UNPLUGGED PART TWO WITH..

With RNB artist, Chanel Devine

[Chanel is sitting in a black chair with a black cocktile dress on with her hair straighten as she talks to the focused camera]
Chanel: Hey babies! It's part two here on Ben WillerTV, Ben Willer Unplugged with your girl, Chanel! Hope you enjoy it! LE go!!!!

Stacey: Welcome back. See you was thristy..
ChaneL: YESSSSS baby! I had to go get me some water. My throat was dry. (laughs)
Stacey: How did you get connected with Ben Willer?
Chanel: I saw an ad on the computer because he did a nationwide ad release for new talent for his management. I was like, " Sounds dope, let me give this a try.." Because it's many times I will try something for my music and it was a scam or a trick, a catch to the deal, so I really didnt believe this one was true. I sent my demo to him, which was called, Smooth Chanel. I sent him to him, he reviewed it and I think two weeks later. He wanted me to fly to LA to sign with him.
Stacey: Was it this thing about you moved out of your parents house, they didnt want you to go? You moved to LA with two hundreds dollors?
Chanel: That's true. When I told my mother about the meeting with Ben, she was thinking he can be a child offender, just crazy shit my mom being the OVERR protected mother she is. Oh lord, times times. But, I was 19 at the time, legel adult. So I just moved. I told my mom that I was leaving that morning to a flight to California. She was trying to talk me out of it, words went out the ear and she went in my room and I took out two hundred dollors from my bank account, that I worked for and I left.
Stacey: What was her reaction when she saw you wasnt in your bed that morning?
Chanel: (laughs) At first, she screamed. Then, she cursed and she finally settled down and called me. I was to Houston,TX at the airport already, boarding on. The words she said was, " You better watch your back little girl." " Yes ma'am!" I said and I called her when I reached LA.
Stacey: What happened when you finally reached LA?
Chanel: I got me a little cheap hotel, which wasnt cheap. I wanted to pull my hair OUT OF MY HEAD girl, it was soo damn hot out there. See, Austin has chill weather, very nice and breezy. But LA at the time was really breezy but at the same time HOT! So I got me a little hotel and Ben called me to come meet him. I remember my hair being all over my head, I had this red dress on because I love dresses and he was like, " What happened to you?" " Long story short minster, IT'S damn HOT and black girls and hair dont get along.."
Stacey: (laughs) true. What did you do at the audition, also knowing you are 21 and then you was 19?
Chanel: I performed live the songs from my demo and it was hard because the questions he asked me and never thought about a answer too so it was like my words was all in one so he couldnt understand me, then I got nervous, my voice started to shake, oh shit I thought. But Ben is a very nice guy and he understand. So when he was building up his company, I went thought artist devolopment with vocal lessons, coaches, prouducers, working in the studio. He taught me so much for me to get ready out there in the music world and now I'm ready. It wasnt him that made me ready, it was myself. Myself worked hard to prove to Ben I wanted to do music, it was my passion.
Stacey: Ever thought you will do music when you was growing up?
Chanel: YES! No one wanted to come over to my parents home because they wanted to talk and hang out with my mom, no no no. I will put on a show, singing, dancing, acting. Doing stand up comedy, which I wasnt funny, but I love to entertain an audience. They will just watch me until I shut up. I will shut up, then five minutes later, ANOTHER SHOW FROM CHANEL PROUDUCTIONS. They was so tired of me but hey, I love to do that and my mom always told me, " Hardworking people get hardworking results." If I wanted to live it, I had to dream it first.
Stacey: Did you think you can sing?
Chanel: My mom will always tell me, " you got a voice baby! GO HEAD!" But I didnt think I did. Of course, that was my mother. My dad will always just look at me with a big grin on his voice, so I thought I can sing. So I just started singing whenever I went and I didnt care. I was a real sassy little girl, if you didnt like what I will do it, most of the time; I will just look at you, smile and keep going like you never said anything. Ghost much.
Stacey: So you devoloped this love for performing?
Chanel: Yes at the age of nine, I really loved it. So when I was in church, everytime they will give me a chance to read a song, a bible verse, anything. I will do it. I love to perform, it was in my blood, something I knew I will love love love to do one day.
Stacey: What music did you grow up listneing too?
Chanel: Lousiania and my texas family, it was ALLLL about that BLUES AND RNB baby! That smooth jazz that creeps up in your soul, relaxing voices of RNB legends, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Arentha Franklin, gospel music with RNB influeces such as Yolanda Adams. I love when I was a little girl listening to Tina Turner because her voice was so amazing. He made me get so excited when I was a little girl. Everytime my family will have gatherings and they will play music, it was my favorite part. I will try to learn every song they will play so I can sing it and act like the artist that's singing and sing the song from my family. Get a broom and sing. (laughs)
Stacey: You think you vocals came naturally?
Chanel: Yes. I really believe so, maybe it was all the music I listened too and how my grandmother use to sing melodies with me as a little girl. Music was meant for me, just as a little girl how music use to make me feel was amazing and I was like, " If I do not do anything use in this world, I WANT TO MAKE MUSIC LIKE THAT!" RNB, I loved!
Stacey: How did you know music was for you?
Chanel: First, when I use to steal my mother's record, bring them in my room and set up a performance route for every song. I use to play dresss up and act like I was Mrs. Tina back in 1985 when she performed all her rock and roll smooth jams. I knew music was for me when I started to live music. I didnt want to go no where without music, performing or talking about music. I dreamed about it everynight and day. It became apart of me and I learned that when I was about 11. Young.
Stacey: You already know the name of your debut album? That is?
Chanel: (closes eyes) Born Into Music. (shakes head) got that ring to it huh?
Stacey: Why did you name it that?
Chanel: Because I was born to do music, live music and write music. Music was ME! I was born to sing, perform and record. I was born to live a dream so big. I was born into music.
Stacey: How is the process coming along?
Chanel: I'm keeping my mouth close.
Stacey: (laughs) More with Chanel Devine when we return!
