OOC: Despite how it might seem, this is NOT my final RP. I have so many more ideas and storylines floating around in my head, so I don't plan on finishing up my time here for quite a while. I've just planned out the story of Eric Quillington and Infinite from the first several months I've been here, so I figured I'd give a brief little spoiler of the end. I'm leaving a lot of the information here intentionally cryptic, as it'd be stupid to just reveal everything that happens to the band, but... basically, this is about fifteen years in the future. The second part will be up later on!
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Matt Roberts was always apathetic about the days Greg Oldson stopped by. Not because he hated his (now ex) band mate, as that job had always fallen to Eric Quillington, but because he only saw the drummer on special occasions. One occasion in particular, although admittedly there was nothing special about it. If anything, the date was the most depressing of the year. Still, he had no choice but to soldier on; as a multi-millionaire former rock-star, he never found it in good taste to complain about many things. If this lone appearance each year was all it took to stay on the public’s good side, then he’d bite the bullet.

Although Matt had become a bit of a recluse in recent years, he still harbored secret hopes that a return to the stage would one day be pulled off. Not in the form of an Infinite reunion, as that was beyond the realm of possibilities, but in the humble form of a bassist for some unknown, obscure act. In his prime, he had worked with numerous side-bands as a live musician, most notably Jason Smith during his solo career. Although Infinite had become increasingly studio-focused towards the end of its career, Matt had always enjoyed the simplicity of playing music in front of an audience. It was a feeling that was never shared by Quillington, who had always preferred to arrange complex compositions in the studio. Many arguments formed between the two as a result, but by now it was far too late to take back the biting words.

Lost in his thoughts, he had let the conversation with Greg drop into a comfortable silence. The two merely sat at Matt’s kitchen table, having long since run out of things to say to each other. Theirs had always been more of a professional relationship, one that no longer mattered after Infinite’s chaotic final days. In many ways, the two no longer connected in middle age the way they did as young adults. More so to Greg than Matt, the last fifteen years had brought massive changes. Sitting in front of the former bassist was a business-man, one who was almost unrecognizable from the fiery spirit that had been the driving rhythm to Infinite songs. He still had a youthful appearance, but one that was now hidden beneath a corporate suit and short, cropped hair. His way of speaking was much more self-assured and confident, and one couldn’t help but thinking that finally moving away from Quillington’s long shadow had played a major part in this. Regardless, Greg had made the transition from rock-star to CEO of a record company without fault or hick-up, and still maintained a large part of his fan-base despite having long since retired from making music.

There was a purpose to this meeting, however, one that would soon be realized. After glancing at the time, Greg sat up from the table and began to put on his coat. Matt also stood up, but in a way that seemed almost against his will. These were the days he dreaded, and he wished to stay away from the event as long as possible. He briefly considered a childish attempt at stalling by spilling coffee on Greg’s fancy suit, before finally asking in a barely disguised tone of irritation;

“Is this really the thing to do? We do this over and over; year after year, just a public spectacle of the gravestone. Just cheapens the whole thing, I think.”

“Well, you know how Eric is,” said Greg, “Always enjoys the theatrics.”

“You need to work on improving your tenses,” Matt replied darkly.

It sounds too simple to be true, but consider the Great Wall of China, if you will: one stone at a time, man. That's all. One stone at a time. OOC-Interesting to see. You didn't really give away that much except that they break up(edit-oh yeah, you did.Reading comp. fail.) I've pretty much got the general timeline for The Band planned out already, although there will probably be changes in my head over time.

OOC: I actually hinted at something more than a simple break-up in the final few lines of this post, which'll be fully revealed at the end of the next one. Thanks, though, I'm glad you've enjoyed it so far!

OOC: It's a really short RP, this is the second half. I know it's not very long, but I'd still appreciate feedback; I was really striving to make a unique and emotional little story. Probably failed, but it was worth a shot, haha.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A strange mixture of emotions was building up inside of Matt Roberts. There was a guilty feeling as he looked into the audience of 10,000 in front of him, as he couldn’t help but think that this was an exploitation of a tragedy. But, at the same time, he felt a great deal of excitement at his first live performance in over a decade. He had never appreciated just how special it was to play in front of a collection of people, and a bitter part of him wished to have savored it more while he had the chance. Everything was taken for granted in those days, though. Despite the fact that neither of them had confirmed it, Matt knew that this would be the last time he’d be on a stage with Greg. He had moved on from his pessimistic attitude of earlier, he was now determined to make these precious few minutes count. All of his problems were behind him, quite literally. Playing just outside of a graveyard was the most morbid venue possible, and Matt was glad that those in the audience had the view of the tombstone’s words, and not him. There was one name in particular he didn’t feel like seeing.

“So, I’d… uhm, I’d like to thank you for coming out tonight,” Greg said with a slight awkwardness in the delivery of his words. It had been so long since he’d spoken in front of a large audience, and he’d forgotten how to speak with confidence in front of one. Despite this, he still carried on with the introduction; “I don’t really consider this an Infinite reunion; it’s just two-thirds. So, basically, we’re not going to play one of our own songs, we’re doing a cover. A cover of an Infinite song, to be exact. It’ll just be this one song, and it’s a really obvious choice. Almost too obvious, but it’d be selfish to play one that I penned. This is by Eric Quillington, probably his most famous tune. It’s called Problems with Pluto.”

The final performance of Infinite was a stripped-down acoustic one, with the collection of voices from the singing audience carrying over louder and with more clarity than the lone one onstage. Oldson’s voice was always slightly feeble in comparison to Quillington, and the intertwining years from the last performance of Infinite to this one had done nothing to improve his singing. In most respects, his voice was even more worn and tired, as he had long since turned his back from music. But, for one last moment, the past would be embraced, no matter how imperfect it was carried over into the present. The words had taken on a new meaning since the writer’s last day on earth. It had always been something of an anthem during Infinite’s now-revered career, but every word ever written by Infinite's singer was now savored, as there was only so much he had accomplished. In death, rock stars typically become saints in the eyes of the public. No matter what had happened in their lives, or how many people they pissed off, an early demise turned even the most arrogant of musicians into a beloved icon. Eric Quillington was no exception.

OOC: This was brilliantly written. It's tragic that in fifteen years time, Quillington would have died somewhere in between, but reading this certainly gets me intrigued to see how Infinite will lead up to this future of theirs. I can tell you that I don't have the heart to ever kill off "the face" that I had breakthrough in the forums. As far as I'm considered RRH will be around until I decide to leave the forums then he'll ride peacefully into the sunset, no death.

Ooc: the best kinds of stories are the ones that envoke a reaction of surprise IMHO. At the end of that first part, I was like "woah WTF?" great story and truly well written. I really want to know just how they got to this stage now.
As PANIC! says though, your gutsy as hell to kill off Quillington, even though you're technically not yet. I once bumped off Scott H because he was stale and he's never been much of a "character" as such. But I don't think I'd ever be able to get rid of Katie. I'll probably keep her doing music until she can peacefully retire lol.

Ooc: Wow, this is really well written and it's a great story. I would write more, but I'm on my phone and it's irritating xD. Anyway, it is sad to see what happens to Eric, but I'm intrigued. This is amazing.

OOC: To be completely honest with you, I'm not entirely sure if they married or not, haha. I'll have those little details all planned out in the end, though. And, I still think Eric still has a ways to go before the big finale. I've always imagined Infinite making about 6 or 7 albums, so they're only halfway there.

OOC: I was trying to evoke a big of a shocked reaction, so I'm glad to have pulled that off! I really don't know if I have it in me to actually kill Eric off, though. Back when I first started, he was a bit of a cliched rock-star, but I think I've crafted a bit of a unique personality for him. As a result, I've grown incredibly attached. His death won't be for another year or two, though; I don't plan on killing him off until I decide to leave. Every single story I've ever done on the forum revolves around Quillington in some form or another, so I couldn't really continue in TRSG without him.

Nothing beats the good ol' fashioned computer keyboard. Back on topic, thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed this, as I was really trying to make a unique RP.
