Derek Baker Derek Baker is a 20 year old musican, originally grew up in San Diego, California and is now based in Camden, London after moving out of his parents house and going to live with his distant relatives in England. After spending a year recording songs using garage band and uploading them to various social networking sites, he became noticed as a talented purcussionist, and having a good vocal ability. He played in the metalcore band Dead At The Start, who used him for their last tour, before disbanding and leaving Derek to work in a new direction influences by hip-hop music. He has since recorded many demos, and has become a session drummer on Postscript's debut album Welcome To The World, as well as working with Aaron Marks on his Getting Out EP, and being the purcussionist and backing vocalist of the live band which perfomances alongside Aaron. He has now begun to work on his debut single, with assistance from Aaron Marks, and hopes to have it ready for the masses to hear before the end of July, and is avalable as a session drummer for bands and musicians of all genres. Hey y'all, so yeah, this is my first update from my official site... prick sick huh? The main reason I'm updating today is to say that I'm gonna be workin' on some fresh material in my home studio over the next few days before going back at workin' with ma homie Aaron Marks on his debut album (sick right?!)
Gonna get the first track done by tonight hopefully, might let it stream on the site then put it up for download just 'cause I want y'all to hear some of my stuff. For anyone you isn't sure on what my genre 'hippy hop' is about, it's like upbeat and happy hip-hop influenced by like the hippy movements 'nd shit. Sounds sweet when you just wanna chill.
Anyway, might have a song up and streamin' tonight, but if not then y'all gonna have to wait a few days, but still, good things are gonna happen with this project. Also, if anyone wants a support on a tour/session drummer then hit me up.

Here's that song I was on about earlier, might be on tha EP that I'm gonna record soon, might not. Anyway, this is called The Same Way, gimme some feedback y'all!
The Same Way
A high pitched voice saying the words "I'll be rockin' in the same way" opens the song along with a single bass note, a fast high piano and a clapping drum effect. The high pitched voice and clapping stops as Derek's low and quick rap starts, after the first line the clapping continues with the added use of snare drum. At the end of each line of the rap the word is emphasised by a held out note. During the chorus of the song, the high pitched sample is used, with an increased amount of vocals being used from the sample. The song follows the same pattern with the clapping stopping for the first line of each verse after the chorus. As the song comes towards the finish, stratching from a DJ deck is used alongside the sample, piano and beat as Derek talks and then finishes the song with a laugh. The lyrics of the song are mainly based around free speech, and how Derek doesn't plan on changing his style of music if people don't enjoy it.

Hey internet, got a small bit of news for y'all. Haven't got round to mastering any new songs 'cause i've been workin' wid Aaron, but got some good demos that'll be mixed and then out for free, 'cause I just wanna get people to hear my songs man. Spreadin' the word and stuff, ya know what I mean?
Yeah the tracks that'll be on my first EP or whatever are called Back In San Diego, Chill Out, Don't Get Me Started, The Same Way (which y'all should have heard already!), The 4/20 Song, and Living On High, should have it out on this site for free by the end of the month, but I can't promise anythin'.
Also lookin' for some gigs and shit, Aaron said he's cool with me doin' it, so yeah, someone hook me up, i'll only wanna play like 4 songs or something, but yeah, contact me!
