Bad Blood [Live at The Barfly]
Lyrics
If I could fly, I would, I would
If I could turn back time, I would, I would,
I don’t wanna die, but I should, I should,
Because I made you cry, Bad Blood, Bad Blood.
I know that I did the wrong the thing, I lied,
I wanna know how I can make it up to you, I tried,
I just want for us to go back to how we used to be, you cried,
I know that I hurt you, but give me another chance, I died.
My heart is in pieces, but I know yours is worse,
I should’ve controlled myself, seen you first,
I don’t want for you to remember me as just a jerk,
I loved everything about you, but I don’t want you to hurt.
If I could fly, I would, I would
If I could turn back time, I would, I would,
I don’t wanna die, but I should, I should,
Because I made you cry, Bad Blood, Bad Blood.
If I could fly, I would, I would
If I could turn back time, I would, I would,
I don’t wanna die, but I should, I should,
Because I made you cry, Bad Blood, Bad Blood.
I’m not hear to beg for your forgiveness,
I just want you to know,
That I think you are the very best,
And I just don’t know how to show…
The way I’m feeling towards you girl,
I got my head in a mess, a sort of swirl,
My hair’s a mess, and I can’t sleep,
I just wanna move on from that feeling that’s deep
Inside of me, that I know I did wrong,
Why did I do it? Crazy like King Kong.
For fuck’s sake, I’ve messed up big,
I didn’t realise how much I’d miss
You, you are the one, the one I love,
And now I know you’re an angel from above,
But all I’ve got, is bad blood,
Because I’ve gone and been a major fuck up.
Description
Sammy gives a few quick strums on his guitar and then stops. He looks up at the audience again and says into the mic; “Good way to start the show there… Wrong song!” A few people in the audience laugh as Sammy starts again and this time gets the right tune. The softness of Sammy’s voice is beautiful, it draws you in and leaves you incredibly shocked when he emphasises a few of the word with so much power. The chorus is not only with raw emotion, but with a backing choir of people who have been to his gigs before or have purchased one of his two EPs – both of which contain this track.
He moves on from the chorus to the verse. Most of the people in this small venue seem to have heard of Sammy before, so there are not many people who are surprised when he starts to rap. He continues the pace of his guitar and raps the verse to perfection.
Then he sings the chorus again; his eyes close and he sways back and forth to the music. His red hair flows and gently sways with him as he rocks from side to side; he plays the guitar with such ease and skill it is like it is actually just an extension of his arm. Sammy sings a double chorus which then leads into a four line sang verse.
This is sung with the utmost delicacy; he holds the last night and then drops straight into the rapped verse which directly follows it. He is so controlled with his voice; it is almost as if he has been performing to crowds far larger than this for his whole life – but in reality, these are the sorts of crowds he performs too week in week out. An air of confidence swallows him up and radiates to the fans as he raps the final line of the song and gives one final strum of the guitar.
