R&B Singer Tisha Jackson photo'd walking the streets of NYC Last Night. It has been a rough couple of weeks for Pop star, Tisha Jackson. The singer’s latest album, Reveal was released two weeks ago on June 28th, 2011. It was expected to sell around 300k but this all came to an astonishing halt when the singers new CD only sold 173k. (Which by the way isn’t bad due to the state of the economy). Fans and many people in the public knew something was different when Tisha only performed on one show to promote her album (Jimmy Kimmel Live) on the day of the album’s release. Tisha was scheduled to promote her album that entire week with shows ranging all the way from 106 & Park to 20/20. Many fans were left the question, “Why isn’t Tisha promoting her album”? The following week when the first week numbers were revealed Tisha, her team, music insiders, and record retailers were scrambling and running ramped trying to understand what went wrong and why the album only debuted in the Top 20 in all regions. They were also left to wonder why did the album sell close to 150,000 copies less than predicted?
Later on Tisha finally broke her silence about the album and its outcome. Tisha explained that she was promoting her records with her own money since April of 2011. She later explained that the record label she is still currently signed to, Junction Records, invested 12 million dollars into her new album, Reveal. All of which was spent on producers fees/writing production/studio time/and mastering. But when it came time for the label to invest into promotion for the album Tisha says that there was no support on their behalf. Junction Records refused to sign a contract to promote the album with more money, Tisha says, that the label said the only way they would chip in for promo is if she cut down on production cost. Refusing to cut down on production cost Tisha took 500,000 dollars out of her own money and used it to promote her album from April-May of 2011. Hoping the record label, Junction Records would help her she asked them to help her financially promote the project again, however the label still refused. So again, Tisha decided to use her own money again to promote her album. Booking, The View, Good Morning America, David Letterman, 106 & Park, and In The Spotlight With Robin Roberts with her own money, Tisha was all set on the promo-train to release her album. But when Junction Records caught wind that Tisha was paying to promote her own album and booked several shows they pulled the plug on all promotion of the album. Reasoning that it “forbid” her contract with them and they didn’t cc the contract for her to promote her album on such outlets, and if she continued with promoting her album on such outlets, Tisha would be sued. This left Tisha/her entire team, and all outlets involved in the dirt. With Junction Records pulling the plug on all promotion on the album, This caused Tisha Jackson, her team, Promotional Outlets, and Many Music Retailers to lose hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars each. It has yet to be told the amount of money lost all together but some music insiders say it can estimate close to 10 million dollars lost together between Tisha and several other parties involved with the album.
Since first addressing the issue, Tisha hasn’t been seen since, but she has finally been spotted walking the town in New York City. Tisha has released this statement via MTV news and her website.“These last couple of weeks have been very chaotic and dramatic. It is so difficult when you plan something from head to toe, how it will sound, what it’s going to be about, how you present it, and who you want on it (all referring to my album) and it doesn’t come out the way you wanted or expect it, the situation becomes unsettling. It angers me just thinking about how Junction Records cheated the retailers, promo-outlets, and myself out of money. That was money out of my pocket that I’ve worked hard for. That was money out of many men and women’s pocket that they used to support themselves with and their families with. It really angers me. But I will always keep my head up and never give up. I hate to argue over money because it is beneath me and I believe beneath all other parties who were cheated as well. But I am also a firm believer that you have to stand up for your God giving rights and take control of your life and that’s what I’ve chosen to do. And It makes me mad that the label didn’t even try to sneak and do what they did, but they did it loud and proud like it was nothing. You should know something is a scam when my albums debuts in the Top 20 and sells 150k less than expected and fast-forward two weeks later my album has sold 2 million copies worldwide. Something is up with that, the shipping units and all the money cheated is an unfortunate situation, but God sits high and looks low. -Tisha JacksonWhen you think about the situation, Tisha does have a valid point. How does an album that sold 173k and was predicted to sell up to 300k still manage to sell 2 million copies worldwide in two weeks. I mean sure Tisha has sold more than that amount in two weeks but, she has had way larger numbers opening week than 173k in her past releases. Something is fishy, with no promotion at all the album tanks first week, and still unable to promote her album she sells 2 million worldwide?
