ROCKSOUND magazine talk to ex-Chimera vocalist Dan Serverge about the Chimera finale and his future career.Rocksound: Hey Dan, thanks for talking the time to talk to us!
Dan: Hey, it's no problem. I've got too much time on my hands anyway!
Rocksound: So tell us, what have you been up to since Chimera finally called it a day?
Dan: I'm working with a few bands going back into producing, me and Luke [Jelt, Chimera drummer who died in June 2010] were thinking of opening a studio, we had our own location with big enough rooms for everything, me and him bought it in 2008 when we self-produced Ashes Of Dawn, after that we barley used the place but it was ours, so I've re-vamped the studio, it's been used litterally five times since Ashes Of Dawn was recorded in 2008.
Rocksound: Do you have any plans for performing again?
Dan: Actually, yes. This is what I'm most excited about! I'm starting a career as a solo artist, but it's not what people are going to expect, it's going to be very alternative rock, nothing anywhere near Chimera, or Verticle, a band I was in a long time ago.
Rocksound: Oh really? Well, tell us more about that!
Dan: Well, I've been performing metal for ten years now, since I was thirteen, and I honestly think it's time for a change, I love metal, don't get me wrong, but this project is going to be very alternative/classic rock, so a lot of fans will not like it, a lot of people who weren't fans of Chimera will, a lot of people are going to expect a lot of songs about Luke, this isn't what this is about, it's about new direction, about a new life for me, but yes, there will be one, maybe two songs about Luke at a push, he was like my brother, if people don't like that, to put it bluntly, they can f*ck themselfs.
Rocksound: You were supposed to release another studio album earlier this year, what happened to that?
Dan: Well, we thought we were ready to continue with Chimera, we wrote an album, but it wasn't the same without Luke, we decided to scrap the album, we decided to finish the band, we had no intention of the Aftermath show, we were contacted in June with the offer from the promoters though, and we though, we could do this to end it with a bang, Luke would've done it, and the Millenium Stadium is huge, I mean,
Girlspice are one of the biggest acts ever, they've sold out the place, and we're nowhere near as big as them, so we're doing three arena dates a week before to warm up for it.
Rocksound: A lot of people are excited for this, are you guys?
Dan: Yeah we are! I mean, who wouldn't be excited to headline a stadium?! It's going to be very, very emotional.
Rocksound: Well thank you for your time, we look foward to your solo career!
Dan: Thanks! I'm really looking foward to it too! I hope that it'll go down well.
ooc: Yes! I'm bringing back Dan as a producer/solo artist! Can't help myself, I need more than one band!
