Part 6Sammy smiles as he hears his fans joining in with him; they have really made this night special and he really did mean that last line – he does love his fans. He smiles to himself again as he realises that he has got to the point in the night where he gets to sing his favourite song.
He starts to jump about on the spot, “Okay everybody!!” he says excitedly, “We all know what time it is now!! Last song of the night!!” he can hear some of the fans growing in excitement too; everybody who is a Sammy Griffin fan knows this song – and if they don’t know this song they aren’t truly a Sammy Griffin fan!
“BAD BLOOD EVERYBODY!!!!” he shouts down the microphone as he starts to quickly strum the opening tune of Bad Blood, stood on that stage tonight he looks like a god; he has control over everything in the room and everyone’s attention is focused solely on him. He leans into the microphone and starts to sing the chorus with a choir of 4750 people joining him.
“If I could fly, I would, I would
If I could turn back time, I would, I would,
I don’t wanna die, but I should, I should,
Because I made you cry, Bad Blood, Bad Blood.”
The fans know every word to the chorus and he can barely be heard over the thousands of people in this room. From where we are sat, we can see that he has got this song down perfectly; has perfected it over the years that he has been playing it and it is now a finished piece. It is quite possible that he will have it on his upcoming debut album; he seems incredibly attached to the track, which only makes his performance of it all the better. Sammy now moves into his first verse.
“I know that I did the wrong the thing, I lied,
I wanna know how I can make it up to you, I tried,
I just want for us to go back to how we used to be, you cried,
I know that I hurt you, but give me another chance, I died.
My heart is in pieces, but I know yours is worse,
I should’ve controlled myself, seen you first,
I don’t want for you to remember me as just a jerk,
I loved everything about you, but I don’t want you to hurt.”
He raps it to perfection with a lot of the audience still managing to keep pace; they are all obviously massive Sammy Griffin fans. He sways to the music as he raps the verse and quickly shakes his head to get his hair out of his eyes as he prepares to sing the double chorus which comes up just after the verse finishes. Now he sings a four line verse which leads into another rapped verse.
“The way I’m feeling towards you girl,
I got my head in a mess, a sort of swirl,
My hair’s a mess, and I can’t sleep,
I just wanna move on from that feeling that’s deep
Inside of me, that I know I did wrong,
Why did I do it? Crazy like King Kong.
For fuck’s sake, I’ve messed up big,
I didn’t realise how much I’d miss
You, you are the one, the one I love,
And now I know you’re an angel from above,
But all I’ve got, is bad blood,
Because I’ve gone and been a major fuck up.”
As he raps the line “Crazy Like King Kong” he stops playing and just slaps his guitar to emphasise how he feels – or felt when writing the song – and then continues playing again just afterwards. As he finishes the penultimate line he stops playing, in clips his guitar strap so that he can place the guitar down and speaks the last line slowly so that the audience can hear him properly.
“THANK YOU VERY MUCH O2 ACADEMY IN BRIXTON!!!! I HAVE BEEN SAMMY GRIFFIN AND YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN FUCKING EPIC!!!! I
LOVE YOU!!!”
