Kieran: Thanks dude! Everyone loves a bit of post-hardcore now and then.

OOC: I'm not a huge fan of them, they were just a good choice for what I wanted to do with the face claims haha

Hello all, it's Kieran updating the site for the first time. We are Such Strange Arts, and I hope you look forward to the music that we have/will be working on in the future, 'cause we sure are. Since working in the studio with the rap/metal supergroup Mudshovel (who I'm still a part of, don't worry!), I've had a craving to start work on something which I can tour with, something that links with the music that I originally performed whilst in my first band The Verdict Is Vengeance (before many problems arose and I left the group)

Now, the plans for the future of Such Strange Arts include, the release of a single titled The Way To Feel Alive, which was recorded last month. Then, depending on record label interest/the chances we are given, to record an album with The Way To Feel Alive being classed as the lead single from the album which is still being written. We would also be interested in touring, even if it's just opening for someone, we just want to expand on the small fan base that we have at the moment.

But yeah, back to the single The Way To Feel Alive. We're not gonna bother releasing it on iTunes and trying to get money for it 'cause in all honesty, who is gonna by a song from a band who haven't shown what their material sounds like? Not many people, so it'll be up and streaming on the site within the next 24 hours, and will also have the option of a free download of the song (if you like it that is)

Please let us know what you think, and if you're a record label owner and like the sound of us, give the chance and we'll take it.

- Kieran

The Way To Feel Alive - Single

UserPostedImage

The song opens with a fast paced, fairly pop punk esqe riff, alongside simular sounding drums, before progressing into a more distorted alternative rock effect which contains the speed of the pop-punk riff, but has a rougher feel about it, revoliving around crashing symbols, before the clean vocals from Kieran Marks are heard, with a high clean tone, to mirror the music in the background, with backing vocals in a lower tone being provided by Lee Sanders.

The use of the fast paced, distorted alternative rock music is used in all of the verses, with the chorus reverting back to the pop-punk sound to allow the listener to pay more attention to the lyrics and vocals (which are sung by both Kieran and Lee) rather than the music. During the breakdown of the song, the guitars make a cliche chugging sound whilst there is a slight use of symbols and double bass pedals to back the screamed vocals provided by both Kieran and Lee, before the music reverts into a final verse, and then the chorus before the song ends with feedback from the guitars.

"The song is basically about one of my ex-girlfriends saying loads of shit about me not being good enough, and how I wasn't even worth her thinking that I was a mistake. But then how she came to regret what she said, when once we got back togther I ended it with her, then refused to take her back in the end, it's a pretty funny story looking back at it, I hope she works out that the song is about her." - Kieran Marks

(Italics = Kieran Marks
Plain = Lee Sanders
Underlined = Screamed
Bold = both)

You said, you said,
that I wasn't that "perfect mistake",
(perfect, mistake)
but I've lead, I've lead,
The revolution against your claims,
(againist your, against your claims)
I will refuse, to be ashamed,
Ofcourse you say that, I should take the, blame
(that I should take the blame)

(Chorus)
We know, we know (oh oh)
the way, the way to feel alive,
though you try, and you cry, to change the past,
the mistakes made, were always meant to
last

So we start again, and ignore the pain,
that lasted for those months,
now that we're back together,
you're as tempormental as the weather,

like a thunder storm, crashing down on me
(crashing down on me)

We know, we know (oh oh)
the way, the way to feel alive,
though you try, and you cry, to change the past,
the mistakes made, were always meant to
last

(breakdown)
I won't forgive you,
for everything you put me through
I won't let,
you turn me to regret.
this is the sound,
of me breaking out,
from your, clutches

This is the last time,
you'll need to check your phone,
for the evidence of me,
I'm history,
yeah I'm history

We know, we know (oh oh)
the way, the way to feel alive,
though you try, and you cry, to change the past,
the mistakes made, were always meant to
last

Cassie: Hmmmm, you guys sound a bit like us over at Big Light Show. We're calling it screamo, you're calling it post-hardcore....same thing as far as I can hear.

Lauren: What Cassie is saying, I think, is that we love this song. Can't wait to hear more from you!

Cassie: Yeah...what Lil Bitch said.

If no-one was aware, we have been signed to Nomad Records, and to celebrate this we're going to release another track for free like now. This song might not be used on the album, but there is a chance that it might be. All we know is the more music that we release for free, increases the chances of people listening to us, which is all we want at the moment. Along with a chance to tour, so yeah, hit us up if you've got a suitable tour (we obviously won't be interested in supporting a pop group), so like a metal/alternative/rock band would be awesome. If not then we'll organise a tour playing small venues in England or something.

We'll give out some details on a future album once we've finished writing for it and actually know what we're doing. So far we've recorded a few odd tracks, which is why we've been releasing them for free. Chances are that we'll save the remaining ones for the album or an EP that'll be released to support the album.

Anyway, this song that will be streaming is called Homeward Bound Whilst Underground.

- Lee

Homeward Bound Whilst Underground

Starting with a drum roll, before a fast pop-punk guitar riff starts the song with a high tone. The vocals are provided by Kieran Marks, who sings in a high tone at a fast tone throughout the verses of the song.

During the chorus, the music becomes slightly slower and there is a slight use of chugging guitars, yet maintaines the pop-punk feel about it. Midway through the chorus, there is feedback from one of the guitars, along with a simple drum beat to keep the beat. Lee's rough vocals are used throughout the chorus, with Kieran acting as an echo, reapting the end word. The chorus ends with screamed vocals from Lee.

During the musical interlude towards the end of the song, there is a break in which only the drums are used, in a fast manner before the pop punk riff (more distorted than previously) before a slightly hardcore based chugging is used whilst Kieran and Lee repeat the line "for loss" as the song ends.

(Italics = Kieran Marks
Plain = Lee Sanders
Underlined = Screamed
Bold = both)

"These lyrics are about a feeling of isolation from family life, and feeling unwelcome in your own household. For example, coming home from work and your family acting like you don't exist. It's basically what happened to me before I left home and got my own flat." - Lee Sanders

There's no one here for you
You've nothing left to show
Your not welcome now
Theres no where else to go.

This is a familar foe
And I've seen it all before.
Stretched out and swinging through
And heading through the door.

I'm homeward bound,
Both feet off the ground.
We're coming out top.
Not built for loss!
We're coming out on top
Not built for loss

What more can I do?
Pick it up, enjoy the show!
Hang tight and drive on by.
There's so much more to grow.

This is a familar foe,
And I've seen it all before.
Stretched out and swinging though,
And I'm heading through the door.

I'm homeward bound
Both feet off the ground
We're coming out top
Not built for loss

We'll see this one through
No room for your view.

It's time to head back,
And bring this one home.

I'm homeward bound,
Both feet off the ground.
We're coming out top.
Not built for loss.

For loss..
For loss..
