IntroductionMichelle Alexa Green, at 16 has achieved what girls of a similar age can only dream of, Two number 1 singles before the age of 20, a number 1 album and a future that looks incredibly bright, this young indie pop singer-songwriter from Camden, London has continued to just grow and grow ever since her debut single, Fifteen was released almost a whole year ago. In a whirlwind year Ms. Green picked up a number of awards and huge critical and commercial success, becoming one of the most famous names in modern music culture and attracting the interest of the likes of Ryan Ross Hernandez and Malory Evans.
1994 – 2008: Childhood YearsMichelle ‘Alexa’ Green was born on September 16, 1994 to English parents, Victoria and Robert, she was actually born in New Hampshire in the US but her parents moved back to London when Michelle was 6 and she has lived there ever since. Because she left the U.S at an early stage it was in the UK where she learned to sing, her parents, her father in particular were huge music fans and listened to a lot of older music, the likes of Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel and Neil Young were all heavily imbedded on the young Michelle from an early age, however it was her mother’s collection of Motown and Soul music that really encouraged Michelle, artists like Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Ray Charles and The Temptations quickly had an effect on the young girl who seemed to want to be a music superstar from a very young age.
Her love for music began at a very early age and her father realized she needed to be taken more seriously when she sang her rendition of Unchained Melody by the Righteous brothers at her school talent show and received a standing ovation as well as touching many hearts that sat in the crowd, she was only 10. Since then, her father began giving her Piano lessons, more singing lessons that has so far strengthened her already A plus voice and added an instrument to her repertoire, he father has continually pushed Michelle to achieve her dreams and this enhanced her relationship with her father as she quickly became daddy’s little princess. However her relationship with her father would become slightly strained as she got older. His refusal to allow his daughter to date caused many problems for them and his over-protective nature has definitely made things more difficult for Michelle. Her relationship with her mother is a lot less publicized.
Continuing on, as time went on her fairly wealthy father who won a lawsuit over an injury, opened up a private studio inside of their house and Michelle immediately began recording music at the age of 13 in the next two years Michelle Green and her father who is now and was her head manager started sending out music demos that were in no way allowed out to the public.
2009 – Present: Music BreakthroughIn 2009 she was signed to Junction Records and released her debut single, Fifteen on August 3, 2010, it became an instant success, peaking at number #2 on the Top20 Airplay Charts and providing the perfect platform for her future in music, the single was a soft acoustic track which showed off her folk-pop sound which the world quickly became familiar with. She then released her debut album, The Voice Of Me which went on to become one of the most successful albums of the year, it went to number 1 on the Chart Heat album charts and has sold almost 5 million copies worldwide.
Michelle returned in September with her follow-up single, huge pressure for anyone, especially a 15 year old girl, the song in question was called Dark Days and showed a more emotional sound to the youngster, various instruments including the Cello were used on the song to enhance the eerie nature of the song, the result a number #1 single on the Top20 Airplay Charts and Ms. Green was on the pathway to huge success.
During this period, she began a relationship with fellow youngster MattY who was slowly making a name for himself in the music industry, they dated for a couple of months but the relationship ended, reasons yet to be confirmed by either party but it’s thought that Matty’s close relationship with several female musicians were the deciding factor.
However, Michelle was on top of the world in October, prior to her break up, she released Red Symphony which became her biggest hit to date, another number #1 and over 2 and a half million copies sold worldwide were enough to make the song another success for Ms. Green. She was on the very top of her game and this was proven when she performed with legendary rock band The Bards at the 1st Music Hall of Fame awards around the same time as Red Symphony’s success. However The Bards weren’t the only collaborators for Michelle Green as she recorded with Stacey Walton and Matty, the three considered the next generation of music superstars.
Michelle was fairly quiet in the months after the success of Red Symphony, she embarked on a tour for the next couple of months and that lead way to the new year, early in 2011 is when she broke up with Matty but continued to focus on her music career, after months of relative quiet she returned with the her next single, taken from her free EP One More Voice, Dance With Danger was released, a lowly charting #8 was disappointing in comparison to her previous efforts but is definitely still an achievement.
Following a brief club tour, Michelle Green spent time recording new material with a view to working on a new album, during this time she recorded her next single, You Just Lost Your Lover. The song however failed to impress and missed out on the Top20 Airplay Chart, Top20 Digital Downloads Chart, a huge disappointment following her previous success. However she is currently working hard on her new album and is set to unleash some new songs in the coming months, so just watch this space.
She signed a two album contract at ChaosRecords on 1st August 2011.
