Gia: The Woman Behind The Label Interview Part 2

UserPostedImage

How would you describe Gia? Musical genius? Feisty hellcat? Unique character? How about all of the above. Giovanni is no stranger to the music industry or producing. Everyone likes to know the dirt on celebrities so that's what this interview is all about! I asked her to give me 10 things that people don't know about her and boy did she deliver. I also asked her about being co-owner of Studio60 and her personal life. Trust me, her answers were nothing short of being shocking and crazy! Let's get to it then ;)

So let's start with the childhood then. What was Gia like as a kid?

”I was very...outgoing. I was nothing like my parents at all. They were all laid back and 'Let's bring peace to the world' and crap. I am the product of Woodstock, hippy parents. I think they were shocked when they seen how I had turned out. (Laughs) I was more rowdy and more like 'Don't screw with me!' kind of attitude. They never punished me because they didn't believe in it. They thought if you talk to your child they'll most likely listen. I heard them but I didn't listen. I was like a loose cannon.”

What about school?

”Who ever likes school? I hated school but I stuck around to amuse people. School was hard. Shockingly, I got teased a lot as a kid. I was like the chubby kid that made everyone laugh but they still didn't like me. I also had freckles, well still have them. I hate my freckles. I wish they would disappear! I was the wild child in school but had the lowest self-esteem. I had all kinds of problems back then but I'm a changed woman, thank god. I'm still goofy and crazy but I've gained some confidence.”

Was High School any different?

”Ehhh, it was vaguely similar but there were more weirdos with me. Definitely made more friends. I met Layla during that time. I have known Layla (Lady Raine) since I was 14 years old and we have been best friends ever since. She's like my twin with her weird styles and crazy humor. She's my sister definitely. I found someone to wear my paint with!” (Smiles)

Did you ever date?

”Hell yes! I only dated guys that were either in trouble, had tattoos, or were jerks. I didn't like the sensitive, nice ones. Noooo they weren't good enough for me. I wanted someone I could party with, get in trouble with you know. I've been in love twice in my entire life. Once was in high school with this senior guy and then he cheated on me so I cheated on his ass right back! I hate cheaters so much. It's like just break up with them! You can't have their cake and eat someone elses too. Then I dated this guy for 3 years like a year ago and he was a douche! I had to get away from him. I haven't had a boyfriend since then. I just usually hook up with guys and that's the end of that. It's less stressful and not much to deal with. But, I always love a bad guy, they are just so hot! I'm not a flowers and candy kind of girl if you couldn't tell."

What do you think is your Achilles heel?

"Sex. I just love it so much and it's a very powerful thing. I think I went like 2 weeks once without it and went nearly insane! I can't date someone and not have sex, that's crazy! Especially if they aren't good? We have to break up. (Laughs) It's a necessity for me. But, now Gia is no whore. I don't sleep on the first date. That would be crazy.”

What's the craziest thing you've done in High School?

”Senior pranking of course. Our prank was to spray paint the lockers and like trash the school so it would look like a break in. We get there, start trashing the place. I'm spray painting the lockers and everything's going great. We finish and get ready to leave but my idiot of a friend somehow gets the alarm going and police station is literally right by the school so didn't take them long to get there. There were 9 of us and only 3 of us got caught; me, my boyfriend, and my bestfriend. Since we were 18 we got put into regular jail, not that juvie crap and we spent the night there. It was not that bad. Made some friends in there too. (Smiles) Hey Ricky!! (Laughs) Anyway, I've been to jail twice! Isn't that crazy? Second time was like 2 years ago for this fight I had with this chick in the mall. I think I was banned from the mall in my hometown. I stayed for like a week that time though. I guess I'm just not good at escaping trouble. I also tried out for my school's football team but didn't make it because I was a girl. I was like the best kicker but you know what? They lost at the finals so I'm good.”

What happened with your parents?

”They bailed me out eventually but they weren't too pleased with me. That was when the craziest thing happened. My parents weren't strict or anything and they always wanted me to talk to them so they used to like smoke weed and stuff and I wanted to try it. My parents were the first and only people I've ever gotten high with. It was insane! I thought I was dying or some crap. Never tried it after that. I think that was their intended purpose though.”

Where is Gia from?

“Hell. Juuust kidding! I'm from Canada. Go Canadians! But um anyway yeah. It got kinda boring there so I moved over here to make music which is what I really wanted to do. I tried getting a job but it wasn't satisfying. My first job was walking dogs for my neighbors which wasn't as bad at first but I got tired of smelling like wet dog. Then I really started to listen to music for the first time I mean really listen to it and I fell in love. I wanted to know everything about it and I wanted to make it and change it and everything! I was just fascinated. I thought, 'Okay. I should make it first.' I knew a man that had a record company so I was like 'You gotta sign me so I can make music.' After about some months he signed me and the fun began. I made my first album there and it went freakin #1 in Canada, which was ultimately enough for me, but now I realized it would've been better to see it #1 everywhere. Then I went into the back up singer mode. I wrote for people, I produced peoples songs and helped make them. It was amazing to be able to help someone get a hit record. I didn't have any experience. I was just used to listening to people like Madonna, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Beastie Boys, Beck, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Blondie, Bod Dylan, and just listening to them and figuring out what I wanted my music to kinda sound like but with my own twists.”

What separates you from other producers?

”I think I'm more loose. It's never really nerve-wracking or tense in the studio with me. It's like the air is filled with weed and everyone is laid back and making music. I admit, I'm controlling when It comes to producing. I like things to go my way and be what I had envisioned it to be. I also pay attention to the little things that make a song. Most people don't notice it but I pay attention to detail in every little song, every little beat, timing stuff, making sure it fits and sounds right. In the end, a good producer can change a song by tweaking one little difference and make it into a hit! That's what I say sets me apart. Plus I'm more fun and better looking. (Smiles)”

Are you ever going to make more music for yourself?

"Hmm. Maybe. I guess I'll have to see what comes out of my producing first. Since my first album did so great, maybe I'll try and top it. Maybe I'll make like a Studio60 album and have a collaboration with each artist. Hmm, I don't know there are some Diva like artists on there though. Maybe just the fun ones."

What are some highlights in your life?

"This one time at band camp....no no no. Okay so in college i went to this bar and smashed my competition. Not smash in the sexual way (perverts) but like annihilated them. I beat two guys in a drinking contest when I was 18. Gia can hold her liquor very well. I might need a liver transplant soon but I think I can manage. Let that be a challenge to any of you, I will drink you under the table!"

Do you think you are professional?

"I know when to be. Not like all uptight, wearing one of those pencil skirts with my hair in a bun and wearing glasses, no. I know when to get down to business but I know when to have fun and just not be so tense and stressed. They should film me in the studio because it's insane. It's like playtime for me but I still get the job done."

Who's your favorite artist to record with?

"It's always a fun time when I work with Izzy or Hayden. Like, hardly any work gets done so that means staying at the studio all night to finish a track and then doing it all over again the next day. They work really hard and they are like the youngest ones on the label so they are like my children haha. When they get really huge and big, they better not forget about me either!"

Speaking of children, does Gia want any?

"Of course. I want a boy and a girl. Simple. I wanna get married first though and then start popping out kids. (Laughs) Maybe twins? I don't know. I'd give them exotic names and stuff so they would be like me, unique. Of course I want them to take after me and maybe they could go into the music business but if they don't that's fine too."

What do you have to say about the rumors of you and Scott H. dating?

"We're not dating we're just going on one. Let the record show I didn't chase him down or try to break up his happy or somewhat happy engagement so Raven can quit whining like a little bitch about it. (Smiles) If you don't do your job right, someone else will take your place. Plus, I give him an A for effort. He tried like really hard to ask me out. It was kinda cute actually."

Do you think this will cause problems on your label?

"It's gonna be awkward I know that. The thing is if we do date, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't distract us from working. We both run labels and ultimately wanna focus on our labels so we'd make sure that it was sort of professional I guess? I don't know I am a little inappropriate sometimes (Laughs) Might be kind of hard to do that. He's still like my rival because I want Studio60 to be THE BEST label and I won't stop until it is."
