Big Light Show - Live at Camp Nou, Barcelona, Spain, 13/08/11

The modest crowd inside the Camp Nou are just starting to mill forward having taken their respective urine and beer breaks after Misery Loves Company. The stage is set for the next band, the program says they are Big Light Show. A band who have achieved little in their career, especially considering how long they've been around. But recently, they have caused a bit of a stir. The adding of Cassie Bitch to the lineup, as well as the change to a very cutting edge screamo-pop style of music has caused people to finally notice them, even if it is only a little. It's safe to say that if it wasn't for the inclusion of Cassie though, this crowd here to watch them early in the day would not be half as big.

The PA quietens down, and there is a ripple of excitement for the next band starting. A big power chord plays, and Ben Warner walks up behind the drum kit. He waves to the crowd and plays a little drum roll, double kicking and smashing his cymbals. He is then joined by Alex Leuiso, Anthony Hecox, and Jack Sampson one-by-one, as the members of Big Light Show assemble to a small rumble of applause. The power chord dies out at last and Warner plays four quick beats on the hi-hat, launching the band into a rather generic, but very heavy breakdown. The guitarists headbang in time, as a small circle pit opens up.

After about ten seconds, Lauren England darts out from the side stage, running to the centre with her mic and waving to the crowd, a swell of cheering coming her way, before dying down. She waves to the festival crowd and takes a drink of water. As the breakdown rages on, Cassie Bitch walks from the side stage, holding a mic. The adulation for the star is massive, as the cheering swells and hits the stage like a sledge hammer. Cassie looks slightly worse for wear, and she doesn't acknowledge the crowd. The screaming is all for Cassie, but she looks a little dishevelled. It's as if she's been up all night, or drinking. She stands at the front and raises the microphone to her mouth.

You let me doooooowwwwwn!

UserPostedImage

The breakdown at the beginning of I'm The Antidote, You're The Poison starts and Cassie swirls her hand to signal the start of a circle pit. Lauren yells at the crowd as the pit opens and the girls start to sing.

You Left Me Hanging!
Hands Tied Behind My Back!
You’re The Proverbial Noose!
Tied Around My Neck!
The Rope Tightens!
I’m Blacking Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuttt!
I! Feel! The! Air! Sueezed! From My Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnggggggssssssss!

The lights flash all around as Cassie stands with a hand in the air. She breathes heavily from the exertion of her screaming so violently. She's using all the hatred she has for the cheating Kamikaze Kate to fuel her performance.
Lauren England stands on the monitor and asks the crowd for more volume by waving her hands, before she starts singing, swinging her hair from side to side as she does.

I’m the an-ti-dote, but you’re the poison,
Gotta fight to stop you coursing…through my veins,
Your toxic words race through my blood like fire,
I got the cure to turn and cut away your reins.

For the rest of the track, the two exchange vocal parts with a rapport which would suggest they've been playing together for years as opposed to just a matter of weeks. Whilst Cassie screams, Lauren is trying to get each side of the crowd to cheer louder than the other. Her Spanish counting isn't perfect, but she certainly tries. And whilst Lauren sings, Cassie is climbing the rails at the side of the stage, threatening to stage dive and beat people up if they don't make the pit bigger. As the song ends, and the massive final note brings a cheer from the audience, Cassie speaks,

"Buenas tardes, Barcelona, cómo está todo bien en este sábado? Mira esto ¿eh? El sol, la música, y la más sexy de persona en la industria de delante de ti ....que ha funcionado bastante bien para ustedes haha hoy!" She turns to look at Lauren England, and laughs. "Yeah, didn't know Cassie could speak Spanish did ya babe?" She takes a swig from a bottle of water and introduces the band and the next track as she tosses the open bottle into the crowd.

"Estamos Big Light Show.... Esta canción se llama ONLY THE WICKED....RESSSSTTTT!"

This song is heavier than the first one was, and the crowd appear to react accordingly. It starts with Cassie screaming over a fairly standard metalcore riff, which sees a mosh pit violently engage, with people starting to flail all over the place. As Cassie screams, Lauren addresses the audience.

"Fuck yeah! That's what we like to see early in the afternoon. Now move! Go!"

The "go" from Lauren heralds a massive pillar of fire to erupt from each side of the stage, coinciding with the grinding start to the chorus. As the guitarists thunder through the riff, and the drums are pounded with venom and anger, Cassie pours everything she has into the chorus, bent over with a hand behind her back, as she screams for her life, the angst evident in her voice,

UserPostedImage

Only I’ll Sleep Tonight! My Now Lost Love!
Don’t Think About Me!
Eternal Insomnia! I’ve Done Enough!
You’re Better Off Without Me!
I Dragged You Down! I Tore It Out!
But Now I’ll Set You Free!

I’ll Always Be (pause) Forever Your Pest!
Haunt Your Sleepless Nights!
Cos Only The Wicked Reeeeeeeessssssssssssssssttt!

They power through the song, with Lauren particularly on form. She bounds around the stage more than usual, and her vocals are quite spectacular. It's clear to see that she's really going for it. Cassie as well, is starting to warm to the task, and she hits each scream with an intensity which leaves you feeling like she has physically thumped you with every word. At one point during Lauren's vocals, Cassie climbs the bass drum and jumps over Ben Warner's head before returning to the front and basking in the acclaim of the crowd.

When it finally comes to the time for the crowd to help out with the chant at the end of the song, Cassie climbs onto the front monitors alongside Lauren, and they hold hands, trying to get the crowd to cheer as loud as they can for them.

"¡Muy bien! Ustedes son increíbles ... ¿quién me quiere ayudar? ¿Sí? ¡Sí! Ok, en la cuenta de cuatro, si se sabe la letra de éste, cantar conmigo .... 1 .... 2 ... 3 ... 4 ...!"

On 4 she leaps down from the monitor and bangs her head rhythmically as she chants with the crowd...

Being…Awake Is For The Best!
Cos We All Know…The Wicked Only Rest!
Being….Awake Is For The Best!
Cos We All Know…The Wicked Only Rest!
Being…Awake Is For The Best!
Cos We All Know…The Wicked Only Rest!
Being….Awake Is For The Best!
Cos We All Know…The Wicked Only Rest!

"¡Gracias!"

Massive cheering for the energy of Big Light Show all around the stadium erupts at the end of the song.

UserPostedImage

Cassie and Lauren high 5 in the centre of the stage, and then Lauren speaks to the crowd at last.

"Have you all had a good time with us so far? Yeah? (cheering) We've had an awesome time, you guys are unbelievable. We can't thank you enough for coming out to see us so early. We appreciate it."

Cassie takes back over, and Lauren skips off to take a drink of beer,

"Así que sólo tengo tiempo para una pista más. Estoy seguro de que algunos de ustedes estarán encantados con que, si bien no?" She laughs and tells them she was only kidding. "¡Sí! Así que aquí tiene el demo que acabamos de poner? Quiero patear este de la vieja escuela así que vamos a ver un show de las manos."

Cassie surveys the hand shooting up into the air, and nods her head before taking another swig from her bottle of water.

"Esta última canción es de la demo. Es nuestro nuevo single y sale mañana, así que salir a comprarlo. Nos encantaría ver cómo nos va en contra de otras bandas y otras cosas en las listas de la próxima semana. Esto se llama, "We all Voted....We Reckon You Should Wrestle the Bear"

A surprisingly loud cheer erupts from mainly the middle section of the crowd as Alex Leuiso plays the slow, very ambient guitar picking section of the intro to the most well received song from the Big Light Show Demo. Cassie and Lauren stand side by side, trying to urge the crowd to clap along in time before Cassie leaps back and counts out loud....

1.2.3.4....GOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

A heavy metalcore style riff kicks in and Cassie flails her hair as she headbangs in time. Lauren England merely stands at the front and pumps her fist, grinning openly at the pit which has opened up, surprisingly big considering this crowd isn't even here to see them. As the section of blast beat drumming which precedes the chorus takes over, strobe lights illuminate the building and make Cassie look as if she is head banging in slow motion. Similarly, the flailing mess of arms and legs that is the circle pit appears to be moving in a 1920s jumpy style, as people move seemingly without the need to walk, run, or in most cases, fall over.

All of a sudden the music stops, replaced by another slow, but not as slow as before, guitar picking section. Cassie puts her arm around Lauren and leans in so that they can sing the opening line into the same mic, before Cassie completes the opening verse on her own, leaving Lauren to try and make the crowd cheer and outdo each other.

The Sanctimony!
Well that filled these ears tonight!
Non righteous Cause!
No Fucking Reason!
There’s A Knife So Sharp! Held Against Your Neck! End You Forever!
There’s A Knife So Sharp! Held Against Your Neck! End You Foreverrrrr
rr!

UserPostedImage

As the words "No fucking reason" are screamed, Cassie bolts across the stage, and leaps atop a speaker. She stands with one arm behind her back, high above the crowd as she screeches the final two line of the verse with a venom poisonous enough to kill 50 grown men in minutes.

He showed us, Oh so he showed us,
We’re so much lower when we hate.
He showed us, (The Sanctimony!) Oh so he showed us,
We’re so much lower when we hate.

The crowd cheer for Lauren. Her voice has grown a lot since Cassie came aboard. No doubt a mixture of fear, new found confidence and a desire to not be kicked out of her own band. She nails the look of an emo singer to a tee...telling the tale of a doomed relationship with her eyes pressed tightly closed, and her side fringe shaking from side-to-side. She bows as the chorus finishes and Leuiso returns to playing the same slower section again.

The song rages on and the crowd pit like mad for BLS, until the final breakdown. Whilst the breakdown rages on and the crowd surges cause security to drag the helpless out of the front row, Cassie (who had climbed down to mingle with the crowd) smiles at a gobsmacked fan and climbs back onto the stage, just in time to hear Lauren sing the final line, a cappella,

We’re...so....much....lower...when...we....(extended pause) hate.

As the crowd cheer and scream for BLS, the drums are battered to a pulp in a spine busting finale. The crowd cheer once again, as Cassie and Lauren stand arm-in-arm at the front of the stage, smiling and waving.

"Gracias Barcelona! Ustedes rock! Te queremos, tener un gran fin de semana."

4:30 - Giselle

A classic black piano is on the stage, the stage is full of fog. Giselle wearing a beautiful red gown walks to the stage, and sits on the piano. She sighs, and plays the opening notes to “Mona Lisa” as she plays the piano portion, and guitar is heard being played, and three ballerinas with torn tutus come on the stage and passionately dance to the sound of the music played. A voice is heard, it sounds a bit creepy a circus like, he says

“Ladies and Gentlemen,
Boys and girls step right up,
I have a story to tell
About a girl who hid behind her smile
Her name was Mona Lisa.”

The three dancers go to the back, and a woman with blonde locks, who resembles Marilyn Monroe, comes on stage, she looks glamorous and happy. Giselle sings the first lines to ‘Mona Lisa”

“Mona Lisa was a sad girl
Who hid behind a sad mask
Painted with smile and sunshine
But behind this mask was tears
And fears for the world
She thought she knew,
a world she thought she could trust”
As Giselle sings the song, the piano is played a bit faster and more aggressively, the actress walks around stage, with tears, her mascara running, she sits in front of a vanity and hate what she sees. She breaks the mirrors, drinks alchohal, and takes some pain medication.
That Mona Lisa is beautiful (she’s)
Unforgettable (she’s)
So incredible
But she’s sad, sad, so sad
Mo-mo-mo Mona Lisa (2x)

The actress still isn’t happy, she begins to break glasses, and sits down in a corner and cries more.

Mona Lisa was perfect on the outside
But was suffering in the inside
She lived the glitz, the glamour,
Had the money and the fame
But behind the beauty was a life of emptiness
She cried herself to sleep at night
Wishing that she might, find life’s true meaning
Wishing that someone could heal the pain
So that she may one day be free
Don’t cry Mona Lisa (it’ll all be okay)
[Chorus]
That Mona Lisa is beautiful (she’s)
Unforgettable (she’s)
So incredible
But she’s sad, sad, so sad
Mo-mo-mo Mona Lisa (2x)

As Giselle continues to play the piano, a violin is added to the mix. The guitarist plays in a faster tempo as the song reaches the climax.

All she wanted was someone to love her
All she wanted was someone to feel her pain
To feel her happiness
To wipe her tears away
To share her virtue

The actress continues to drink alcohol, and takes more drugs, sad with her life she lays down, closes her eyes and dies. The music stops, and only the violin is heard.

May we have a moment of silence please?

The violinist continues to plays as the dancers return and dance, soon a few paramedics come on stage and take the actress away. Giselle walks away from the piano, and two men come and remove her gown to reveal a sequined backless leotard, with shimmery flesh toned stockings and high heeled shoes. The piano is whisked away, and Giselle walks to the center of the stage and looks at the crowd. Everyone is cheering she smiles and says.

“I told you I’ll be back, how you guys doing!?
Well, I’ll be playing a few songs from my new album, and a bit of the old ones
But I have a special treat, I wanna get the party started.
Speaking of getting party started how bout I do a little Salt n’ Pepper
Hit It!”

The instrumental to “Push It” is heard, three guys come on stage, one with a boom box, he turns ups the music puts it down and the three begin to break dance. Giselle and two female dancers come on stage behind her. The two groups begin to have a dance off, and Giselle sings a mash up of “Celebrate (Dance Floor Anthem” and “Celebration” by Madonna.

“Woo! Who wanna party! It’s all about a celebration today!”

Giselle then begins to sing the first lines of the song. And confetti is thrown towards the crowd. The crowd begins to dance to the beat of the song.

“Feel my temperature rising
There’s too much heat I’m gonna lose control
Do you want to go higher,
Get closer to the fire,
I don’t know what you’re waiting for
Come join the party, yeah
Coz’ everybody just won’t do
Let’s get this started, yeah
Coz everybody wants to party with you
I want to celebrate with you,
turn the dance floor into an inferno
Celebration, this is the dance floor anthem
Whenever I’m with you”

Giselle continues to sing and dance. She walks to a canon, sits on it and it begins to shoot more confetti to the crowd. She sings the chorus.

Giselle screams
“Throw your hands up, this is a celebration!”
“Boy you’ve got it
Coz anybody just won’t do
Let’s get it started, no more hesitation
Coz everybody wants to party with you
Come join the party, it’s a celebration
Anybody just won’t do
Let’s get this started, no more hesitation
Coz everybody wants to party with you
Celebration, forget about the worries in life
Burn the dance floor, cause it’s the celebration”

Giselle continues to dance with the backup dancers, and occasionally goes to the crowd and sings to them. As the crowd sings along, she puts the microphone to them, and invited a guy from the crowd to dance with her.

(Out of breath)
“Wow, you guys are some crowd. We need to party more often Spain (laughs)
“Now, I’m gonna do a song called “Ultraviolet”, any single ladies out there?
Crowd screams
“Well, I got just the song”

The beat is played and it sounds a bit more disco than the before. A disco ball is shown on the Jumbo Tron, and Giselle sings the first verse.

Your love was ultraviolet baby,
It set me on flames and tore me apart,
You’re gone from my life and I will never miss you
I’m so over you, your yesterday’s news
Stop calling me ‘cause I won’t pick up the phone
I won’t catch the voicemail, I’ll be pressing that 7
You once were my rock, but now you’re just a pebble

Giselle continues to walk around the stage, and a male dancer walks with Giselle to woo her back, but she continues to ignore him.

“You love was ultraviolet baby
it set me on flames and tore me apart
Your love was ultraviolet baby
Never wanna see you again
Your love was ultraviolet baby
No need for a man to tell me what to do
Goodbye, it’s for me to move along
Goodbye, it’s time for me to get along”

Giselle and a few female dancers come on stage, and they unit kicking the men (male dancers) to the curb. Giselle sings the last verse

“You used me, and emotionally abused me
I was so foolish to believe that you would change
That ultraviolet love sent me on fire
And turned me into ashes
Now it’s my time to do the burning
You’ll be yearning for a another like me
But trust me, no one will love you like I did
Now it’s too late, the damage is done
And you’re gone from my life
I’m starting anew, so all can say to you is bye, bye baby
And never dare come back
Oh!

Giselle then does a quick costume change, her outfit is a ripped fishnet stockings, a black top, and ripped short jeans. Giselle is backed by a whole band, an electric guitarist, a drummer, bassist, and a synthesized keyboard player.

“I’m going to give you guys a nice little encore. You may have heard three versions of this song”
“One was the dance pop version, and the other was a Middle Eastern version, this one is gonna be a rock version”
[Giselle whispers]
I did not mean to hurt you,
But, sometimes, you have to do
What you gotta do . . . to survive

[Distorted guitar riff]
.
.
.
I’ll grab your heart and tear you apart
I will use you and abuse you, to get what I want
I don’t need your love
But I want your soul, and I will do what I can to please
And when I’m done with you
You will never see the light of day
Bye, bye boy
I see your just another fool,
Who fell in my web of dead men
There she goes looking like danger
She’s a stranger looking for prey
She will betray you, and slay you
Better watch out cause she’s dangerous
Dangerous (she’s)
Dangerous

Like a black cat I travel in the night,
Seeking my next victim, whom will I pray on tonight?
I’m dangerous, a girl who will lure a man to his death
Like a siren, I seduce men with my beauty and voice
I’m dangerous, I’m giving you a warning
I’ll build you up, just to shatter you in pieces
The million kisses were like venom to your skin
All men want a taste of this,
But when I’m done with them
They’d wish they never met
But it’s too late, their already dead

Didn’t mean to hurt you, but it’s the way I’m built
Didn’t want to kill
But I had to fill my thirst, my desire for blood
I'm a maneater,
I'll chew you up and spit you out

There she goes looking like danger
She’s a stranger looking for prey
She will betray you, and slay you
Better watch out cause she’s dangerous
Dangerous (she’s)
Dangerous

The band continues to play and Giselle screams

“You guys are awesome!”

She jumps into the crowd and surfs.

ELECTRODEATH PERFORMANCE

The crowd went crazy when the big led screens keep showing a mix of ElectroDeath music videos, ending with the word WICCA flying over a sunny sky. It’s time for the girls enter the stage and start to give the fans a first look on their upcoming world tour.

A slow down piano melody starts to play, suddenly Magi appears wearing jeans and a white shirt holding a microphone walking from behind and sing the first strophe of a very old song from the girls “Don’t Regret”…

You Don’t Regret
Your past embraces
Time will forget
Phrases and faces

Right after she finish the strophe Yulia ad Lilly come behind Magie, wearing the same jeans and the white shirts but on their white shirts are the words “Wicca Tour”, crowd starts to cheers at them and wave their hand up in slow movement following the song’s melody. Together Yulia and Lilly sing the chorus of the song, melodies this time took form of a midtempo electronic music, with the piano and a drum sequence…

No more Saying words
No more crying tears
All that was before is no longer here
No more singing songs silent lips are dry
All that was before slowly passing by

OOC: Lyrics belong to TATU

The song is short, right after the chorus the girls blow kisses to the crazy crowd while the song drops its last midtempo sequence ending in a water ambient sound announcing the next song.

The crowd can recognize the next song just by the end of its melody “When Your Heart’s Not Open” the smash hit from the girls new album starts to play its organic percussion mixed with electronic beats, Magie sings the song first strophe smiling to the crowd which are completely excited about this song, she can even hear thousands of fans singing loud with her the song’s lyrics, there is no much dancing for this performance, the girls keep walking around the stage interacting with the crowd sending kisses to them, switching vocals among themselves, the chorus of the song is performed with all the girls singing it together, the second strophe is sung by Yulia, at the final chorus the girls top singing as they can realize that the entire crowd is singing for them, they stand their microphones on the crowds direction just to her the phrases…

Ow, Look inside your heart
Ow, Find your missing part
Ow, When you see the light
Ow, You’ll reach the sky…
Ow, Look inside your heart
Ow, You Found missing part
Ow, Give your love to world
Ow, you won’t feel hurt
Ow, Give your love to world
Ow, you won’t feel hurt

The song ends, and girls keep facing the crowd cheering at them. Suddenly five female dancers enter the stage wearing colorful jackets, they also bring three of those jackets, The girls wear them and they have a brief talk with the crowd.

Magie: How are you guys?
*Crowd Scream*
Yulia: I can’t hear you babezzzzz
*Crowd cheers louder*
Magie: That was good! We are so happy to be here with all of you!
Lilly: Now who’s ready to get out of control?

The fast high – energy electronic drums starts to play, this is “Uncontrollably” another smash hit from the girls fourth album, followed by their female dancers the girls execute a very easy and fun choreography which consists of hair shaking, jumps and hands movements. Magie sings the first strophe of song while Yulia and Lilly keep doing the song choreography…

Took a minute and think about my life
Have a feeling that I’m under a disguise
Time to go out!
Be a little uncontrollably
Breathe the air and finally set me free
It’s my turn now…
Yulia sings the pre –chorus of the song
To be free… To be Happy… in love with me…

The chorus is sung by the girls together, while they induce the crowd to put their hands up and give punches in the air, so they can do something like a flash mob…

I found a way to overcome these struggles
That I’ve got thought last time and
Now I feel my life again it’s so bright
Let’s just be uncontrollably.
Oh Oh Oh 2X

To sing the second strophe of the song, Lilly gets really near the edge of the stage, where she could touch some of the fans...

Maybe you think that I’m crazy
Well if this is what seems to be happy
Than I am now!
I never felt like this way before
All this happiness, and I want it more
It’s my turn now…

Again at the chorus the girls starts to shake their hair left and right, making the whole crowd do the same…

To be free… To be Happy… in love with me…

I found a way to overcome these struggles
That I’ve got thought last time and
Now I feel my life again it’s so bright
Let’s just be uncontrollably.
Oh Oh Oh 2X

The song reaches its final moment where the girls took of their jackets and their shirts revealing colorful tops covering their breasts, they start to rotate their clothes above their head, so the crowd sis it too...
To be free… To be Happy… in love with me…

I found a way to overcome these struggles
That I’ve got thought last time and
Now I feel my life again it’s so bright
Let’s just be uncontrollably.
Oh Oh Oh 2X

The track ends and the girls throw their clothes to the crowd.

Magie: Wow, it’s hot here!
Yulia: We want to say thank you guys! You are freaking awesome!

Wearing jeans and breasts, three male dancers enter the stage only wearing pants, a synthpop electronic melody starts to play, this is “B!tch”, and old hit from the girls, the crowd went crazy hearing this familiar melody, the girls starts to dance with these male dancers, some kind of sexy fight movements, where Yulia sings the first strophe of the song, while Yulia were singing the male dancers arranged a platform that was coming down at the stage, when the chorus started the girls climbed at the platform where they were lift from the ground, the dancers kept down on the ground dancing the song choreography. The second strophe is still performed by Yulia, and both the girls were still lifted by the platform, when the second chorus started the platform went down, and the girls sung the last part of the song dancing with the male dancers behind them.

Before the song could end the melody starts to slow down, in this short time Lilly announced…

Yulia: This is “Long Gone Queen”

As the song slow down, the three male dancers on the stage brought three big white caps, so the girls could wear it to perform this slow down tempo song. The melodies of it slow down the crowd when Magi start to sing calmly the first strophe of the song…

She put a crown over her head
She took further a step
She got scars… she was a superstar
She survived all this crap
With love she once was burned
For believing…
She tasted the fear but she has learnt
She was not grieving
She's a queen
A so long gone queen

The chorus is sung by the girls together, the choreography of this song consist of smooth and slow movements the girls perform with the help of their dancers, some of them are inspired of ballet and modern dance…

The fall of the queen
The death came so early
The death came so early
The rise of the queen
The time cannot split
The time cannot split

The second strophe is sung by Lilly, once again she gets near the crowd t touch them…

Her acid tongue spoke the world
Message of freedom
Her voice was heard so far away
Her memories forever will stay
Once she ruled the world
Searching for a better word
With poetry and love
Sometimes sweet, sometimes strong

The second chorus of the song the girls sing together too, but Yulia gets ready to plays the piano…

The fall of the queen
The death came so early
The death came so early
The rise of the queen
The time cannot split
The time cannot split

To sing the last strophe of the song, Yulia sits at the piano and sings it very loud and aggressive followed by an electric guitar riff…

Her legacy, for how long it lasting
Nothing we’ll try
Can be compared, to what she had
Followers will step by
Some will steal, some will feel
The love she left
All her Vanity, a non-named Lady
Bet she don’t regret
Even if she wasn’t dead…

The girls end the performance near Yulia, while she’s still at the piano…

The fall of the queen
The death came so early
The death came so early
The rise of the queen
The time cannot split
The time cannot split
She's a queen

In the end of the song the word WICCA is displayed behind them at the led screen and the girls sending kisses to the crowd and thousands of white papers starts to fall down

Yulia: Thank you so much!
Magie: Thank you guys we love you all very much!
Lilly: Thank you, we let you with Riot! In The Boulevard!

7:30 - Riot! In The Boulevard

Riot! In The Boulevard Set
Saturday 13, August 2011 – Festival De Musica, Nou Camp, Barcelona

UserPostedImage

Riot! In The Boulevard walk out onstage one by one, beginning with drummer Nathan Mullen, quickly followed by his brother Justin Mullen and then Jason Greenberg and finally Amy Meyer they all look surprised at the sheer magnitude of the gig, over eighty thousand people are here tonight and the band look a little nervous but quite excited by this prospect, they’ve performed at big events in the past few months but have always been a lot lower on the bill, today is different, they have more time and freedom tonight as they’re one of the main acts at the three day festival, as the band get themselves into place and start to adjust their instruments, Amy Meyer takes the microphone and runs out to the edge of the stage, “BARCELONA!!! How you doing tonight?” she pauses briefly before shouting, “1, 2, 3, 4!!!” as the band kicks into action and begins the intro to Sweet Little Fantasy’s as Amy starts to run across the stage and sings.

“She Wears Her Hair Down Low
She Walks The Streets Once More
She Writes Up Fairytales In Her Head
It’s Tragic, Because They Always End Up Dead
---
Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Coming Away With Me
Sweet Little Fantasy’s
Coming Away With Me
---
They Said, Her Face Could Launch A Thousand Ships
The Guys Were, Desperate To Be Kissing … Her Red Lips
Instead She Walks The Streets At Night, Just Looking For Tips
Show Some Skin Once More, And We’ll Call It Quits”

The crowd hit fever pitch already and sing along to the band’s debut single with its catchy chorus providing a perfect introduction for the bands performance today. As the music slows down and the song fades out as the band quickly play into the next song as Amy shouts, “Mona Lisa Where Are You??” she begins singing.

“She Puts Her Make-up On
Like She’s Creating Some Kinda Art
She Looks Around For Clothes
But She Just Don’t Know Where To Start
---
She Throws On A Skirt And An Old Yankee’s Sweater
Guys Will Learn To Fall In Love … Before They Even Met Her
She’s The Envy Of Her Peers, Because After All These Years …
There Ain’t Been No One Like Her Before
---
She’s Dressed Up Right
She Won’t Be Free All Night
So Take Your Chances When They Come
Take Her Hand And F**king Run
---
The Girls Wanna Be Her, The Guys Wanna See Her
If Only For A Little While, Just To See Her Mona Lisa Smile
The Girls Wanna Be Her, The Guys Wanna See Her
If Only For A Little While, Just To See Her Mona Lisa Smile”

During the song, Amy only stops briefly to shout, “BARCELONA!!!” as she runs around the stage in expected energetic fashion, jumping up and down and running from side to side, she waves her arms back and forth to encourage the crowd to do so, it creates the perfect atmosphere for the band already as she begin to play into the next song, it’s a slightly less rambunctious performance as the song is slightly softer, Amy shows that she can also sing a soft melody just as well as anyone on Kiss Goodbye To The Harvest Moon.

“Watch Your Step Now, Kid … It’s All In Vein
You Can Try And Try … But You’ll Only Go Insane
You Are The Winner … And Now It Seems
Your Not The Sinner … Your The Stuff Of Dreams
---
Your The One With The Warn Out Sweater
And The Horn Rimmed Glasses, Don’t Make Things Better
I Know Your Life, I Know It Kills
Put Down The Knife And Drop The Pills
---
The Pathway To Your Life … Has All Potential
The World Needs All Walks Of Life … Now It’s Essential
You Are The Winner … And Now It Seems
Your Not The Sinner … The Stuff Of Dreams
---
You Will, You Will, You Will
Kiss Goodbye To The Harvest Moon
With A Smile On Your Face … Singing A New Tune
Just Kiss Goodbye To The Harvest Moon”

The band pauses briefly which gives them the change to take a quick drink and adjust their instruments for the next song, as Jason Greenberg begins to play a soft bass intro, Amy is crouching at the centre of the stage and as the drum beats begin and the guitar intro from Justin begins, Amy jumps in the air and screams, “All Is Fair In Love And War!!!” and she starts singing with her trademark energy.

“People Get Your Gas Masks On
And Barricade The Doors
Please Don’t Pray To God Tonight
Because Religion Causes War’s
---
Look Around This Wasteland
You Once Called Your Home
Face Your Fears, Strap In Tight
This Is What We Call War
---
30 Years On And Another Fight’s Beginning
There’s Everything To Lose
And There’s Nothing Worth Winning
Take A Stand, And Hold My Hand
And Together We Will Sing
---
All Is Fair In Love And War
We Let The Bodies Hit The Floor
People Dying Everyday
All We Do Is Look Away”

As the song ends, the band pauses once more briefly and Amy begins to sing an acapella intro to The Echoes Of My Soul. The band then quickly join in with thrashing drums and a powerful guitar performance from Justin Mullen and Jason Greenberg, providing a fiery rendition of the song.

“A Huge Insecurity, Burning Deep Inside
As I Try To Bury This Pain, It’s Impossible To Hide
Instead They Move Up To The Surface, Threatening To Break Free
Threatening To Tell The World, Just Who I Used To Be
---
Is This Pain Really Here, Or Is It All In My Head
I Guess This Worry Will Last, Or I Could Tell The World Instead
It Brings Me Back, To That Place And I Guess The Truth I’ll Have To Face
Instead Of Living I’m Dying Slow, Instead Of Coming, I’ve Gotta Go
---
So I’ll Make A Wish, I’ll Place It In My Heart
Everything I Want, So My Life Can Finally Start
Will It Make Things Right, Will It Make Things Real
Will It Make My Heart Begin To Heal
---
So Now That I Have It, I’ll Believe It Can Come True
You’d Think I’m Doing This For Myself, But The Truth Is, I’m Doing It For You
Because Once You Have Me At My Best, We’ll Live Together And Forget The Rest
So Those Who Say Wishes, Can’t Ever Be Real, Make A Wish For Them, In The Hope That They Feel”

As the song finishes, Amy walks to the very edge of the stage and puts her finger on her lips and whispers, “sshhhhhh.” The crowd go almost completely silent as Amy indulges and starts to look around the crowd, she looks at the faces of the crowd in the first few rows, and then steps back slightly before shouting at the top of her voice, “ARE WE THE NON-BELIEVERS!!!” the band then thrash their way into the song as Amy sings along with the crowd on the bands huge number 1 hit.

“If You Got Nothing
Nothing Worth Fighting For
Then Pick Your Stuff Up
And I’ll Show You The Door
---
Don’t Ever Worry, I’ll Be Around
I’ll Come Pick You Up
When Your Feeling Down
And There’s One Thing I’ll Say
---
Don’t Ever Lose Hope
Don’t Ever Worry
Don’t Ever Lose Hope
It’s Our Love Story
---
Will You Still Believe In Us
If I Don’t Make A Fuss (If I Don’t Make A Fuss)
Will You Still Believe In Us
If I Don’t Make A Fuss (If I Don’t Make A Fuss)
---
We Are … All The Non Believers
We Are Just Losers And Leavers
We Are Lovers And Breeders
We Are … All The Non Believers”

As the song ends, the band make their way to the centre of the stage and take a quick bow before they leave the stage, the crowd erupts in an attempt to get the band back and after about 30 seconds Amy Meyer and Justin Mullen return to the stage, Justin returns with an acoustic guitar and Amy puts her arm around his shoulders as he begins to play and she begins to sing, A Moment, An Hour, A Lifetime.

“I’m Playing This Game Called Love
And It’s Messing With My Heart
I’ll Fight My Instincts, Fight My Feelings
But I’m Just Falling Apart
---
I’ll Close My Eyes And Let My Mind Run Free
Holding You Is Where I Long To Be
I’m Trying To Keep Calm And Fight What I Feel
But A Space In My Heart Is Harder To Heal
---
So I’ll Try To Move On And Pretend That Everything’s Fine
But I Know What I Feel And I Want You To Be Mine
So Tell Me What Your Feeling, Is It The Same
If I Get Hurt, Your Not To Blame
---
So If It Takes A Moment To Like
And An Hour To Love
A Lifetime To Forget
I Guess It’s Easier To Regret”

UserPostedImage

As the song ends Amy smiles at the crowd, she then looks at Justin and he looks back her, she nods her head slightly and Justin begins to play an acoustic introduction, Amy speaks into the microphone first “Uhhh, this is a pretty new song and I guess it means a lot to me, so bare with me please.” She smiles and then continues, “It’s called Daddy’s Prayer.” And she begins to sing.

“You Are The Only One Who
I’d Ever Want To Hold Onto
You Are Dying And Now I Am So Scared
You Are The Only One Who Ever Really Cared
---
I Felt So Safe In Your Arms
I Felt The Beauty Of Your Charms
Your Love For Me Was More Than Anyone
More Than Anyone’s Love Can Ever Be
---
I Was Your Princess And You Were So Proud
You Used To Listen When I’d Shout Out Loud
You’d Never Tell Me To Go Back To Sleep
You Said Your Heart Was Mine To Keep
---
My Daddy Would Cry If I Ever Felt Sad
My Daddy Would Calm Me If I Ever Got Mad
My Daddy Would Hold Me And Make Things Better
My Daddy Love Mommy And He Wouldn’t Forget Her
---
My Daddy’s Tears Would Run Down His Face
He Looked In My Eyes And I Saw His Grace
He Smiled At Me And Held Out His Hand
I Love You Princess But This Wasn’t Planned
---
Daddy Told Me He’s Dying And There Isn’t Much Time
He Said That His Heart Will Be Forever Mine/
I Couldn’t Stop Crying Or Fight Back The Tears
He Held Me Closer And Said We All Must Face Our Fears
---
Soon Daddy Will Be Tired And He’ll Close His Eyes
I’m So Scared, What If He Dies
I Dunno How To Do It, I Dunno How To Smile
He Says He’ll See Me Again In A Little While
---
But You Are The Only One Who
I’d Ever Want To Belong To
And You Are Dying And I’m Scared
You Are The Only One Who Cared
---
So This Is My Prayer To My Daddy Now
I’ll Think Of You, As Much As Time Will Allow
And You’ll Be The Only One In My Head Now
I’ll Be Thinking Of You, As Much As Time Will Allow
---
My Daddy’s Prayer Will Take Me There
My Daddy’s Prayer Will Be My Despair
My Daddy’s Prayer Will Take Me There
My Daddy’s Prayer Will Be Ours To Share

A clearly emotional and teary eyed Amy Meyer finished the song and looks at the sky, the crowd’s cheers providing the perfect backdrop for her emotions and as she looks out at the huge capacity crowd, she raises a little smile and runs her hands through her hair, Justin moves closer to Amy and puts his arm around her and whispers something in her ear, she looks at him and smiles, Justin kisses her on the cheek and then takes her hand and raises it in the air and encourages the crowd to cheer even louder for her, she smiles a little more and looks at Justin once more before wrapping her arms around him tightly, She takes
the microphone and shouts, “Gracias Barcelona, Te Amo, Te Amo, Te Amo.” Before leaving the stage.

If You Want It
Sally Thirtysomething
Space Cadet
Dream Police
On The Way (new song)
Satellite
Song To Fall In Love To
Part-Time Assassin
Can't Sit Still
Sirens
Brothers & Sisters
Lightyears / Virtual Fantastic / Lightyears (Reprise)

Pilot walk out onto the stage to the sounds of Rock N Roll Star by Oasis. Without a word of intoduction, they pick up their instruments and launch straight into If You Want It, off their The Leed Balloon album. It's a fairly simple pop rock song to start them off. The signs are there that they're not entirely at ease on stage after such a long absence. Clint and Murray aren't running around the stage or jumping into the barrier, instead they stand focused on their instruments, cautious not to make a mistake. As the song finishes Clint addresses the crowd.

"This is it! This is what we came for, what's up Spain?...Fuck it's good to be back, this ones called Sally Thirtysomething."

Sally Thirtysomething is a song Pilot have played at almost every gig since they toured in support of their debut album. It was clear that the boys were a little more at ease with it and as they relaxed they provided some spectacle for the crowd. Clint stood atop Stephen's bass drum and lead the crowd in a short call and respond between claps and guitar, before the song finished in an intense cacophony.

"This one's for anyone who bought Remember The Future, hope you enjoy this one," Nick shouted by way of introducing Space Cadet.

Later, the band unveiled the new song they had been promising. Clint announced that it was called On The Way. It was a mix of stadium-sized atmospheric rock in the verses, and a balls to the wall rock out in the chorus. The crowd had started joining in with the fairly simple chorus by the end of the song

I'm on the way / You can see me every day / Building up until the day that I die
I'm on my own / Coz I prefer to be alone / But I'd hate to be unknown my whole life

As promised, the show is littered with plenty of big hits from throughout their career, but the highlight came at the close of the show, as their traditional closer Lightyears was merged into a medley with the epic Virtual Fantastic from Inside Newtopia. The two futuristic, spacey songs played well off each other before the show finished with a reprise of the Lightyears chorus.

The boys seemed happy with their comeback show, spending plenty of time on the stage after their show closed with hands aloft, soaking in the applause before they made their way back to the dressing room to reflect and start planning what else their comeback has in store.

RYAN ROSS HERNANDEZ LIVE @ FESTIVAL DE MÚSICA

UserPostedImage

After Pilot's performance, the audience knows who is coming next. The headliner of the day, Ryan Ross Hernandez. Tonight there is absolutely no delay, and the second the clock hits ten o'clock, the lights on the stage dim. With three hundred thousand people on deck, and anxiously awaiting Ryan, screams and cheers are heard as they're all on their feet for him. Aside from the multiple camera flashes coming from all ends of the stadium. Lights rise, now showing the crowd a red curtain that is in front of the stage, the lights shining behind the curtain with fans being able to see shadows walking and shuffling behind it getting ready for the performance.

The prominent sound of a Roland TR-808 drum machine can be heard slowly building up through the PA system. All the other shadows disappear and only one is seen. The audience cheers, presuming that the figure left behind the curtain is one of Mister Ryan Ross Hernandez. The lights that were shining behind it are gone as the curtain opens at both ends. Smoke starts to overtake the stage at the area where a limelight is shining on stage. Through the smoke, Ryan Ross Hernandez's figure appears, rising from underneath the stage. Dressed in a black leather jacket with a long-sleeve buttoned white shirt underneath, and black baggy pants. The ends of the shirt can be seen coming from underneath the jacket. The first couple of buttons from the shirt are buttoned down, giving the women in the crowd a good show of his chest. He has a Fender Shoreline Gold Stratocaster guitar hanging around his back. While it is overtaken by the immense amount of cheers and applause from the crowd, all the while the drum beat is still going through the PA. Ryan stands in front of the microphone stand for a moment, looking out at the massive audience in front of him with a smirk on the corners of his lips. The drum beat starts to get higher and more consistent. He leans his head against the microphone stand as the audience settles down just slightly. He gives a thumbs up to the side of the stage, giving a sign for the sound techs to raise the drum machine beat. Ryan begins to sing a short cover of Marvin Gaye's landmark song "I Heard It Through the Grapevine".

Ooh, Ooh, I bet you're wondering how I knew
about you're plans to make me blue
with some other guy you knew before.
Between the two of us guys
you know I love you more.
It took me by surprise I must say,
when I found out yesterday.
Don't you know that
I heard it through the grapevine
not much longer would you be mine.
Ooh, Ooh, I heard it through the grapevine,
Oh I'm just about to lose my mind.
Honey, honey yeah.

The cover is received with a positive response from the crowd. The words echoed behind him from some. The drum machine heard through the PA shifts to a harder and more prominent beat. Ryan twists his guitar from his back. He begins to beatbox into the mic over the drum beat. While odd, he is seemingly trying to prove more musical talents he has, safe to say it didn't work very well but the fans still love him. He backs off the mic and laughs, shaking his head. While the beat continues, he starts to play a gritty guitar riff. He plays it for about a minute before leaning towards the mic and singing in a matching deep, gritty voice.

If your having girl problems I feel bad for you son
I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one

He laughs into the mic as he continues to play a fast-paced riff, swiftly moving his fingers over the guitar chords, putting the words to Jay-Z's "99 Problems," over it.

99 problems but a bitch ain't one
If you having girl problems I feel bad for you son
I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one
Hit me

The drum machine suddenly stops once the lights finally come on completely across the stage, finally showing the full supporting band behind him. He turns his back to the audience for a few seconds as he transitions his guitar playing to a more funky sounding riff. Ryan taps on a pedal with his sneaker as he turns around back to front the audience. The instruments come into place one by one following Ryan, with the bass coming, followed by the drums, then finally the backing guitars and keys. Ryan begins scatting few notes, keeping in line with the funky music behind him. He then begins to sing in a high falsetto voice with his two female backing singers echoing behind him.

Fire
Higher
Higher
Fire
Higher
Higher
Fire
Higher
Higher

After such into the band shifts into the more familiar territory for any RRH fan as they start to play fan favorite, "City Made of Vultures," which the fans at hand welcome with open arms. He sings the verses in his usual voice tone, while moving to the lady-loved falsetto voice register for the chorus. For the breakdown of the song, Ryan backs away from the mic playing a jazz-influenced guitar solo as his saxophone player Bob Reynolds steps into the band. He walks over to one of his backing guitarists as they have a friendly dual-off of trading guitar solos, seeing who's can get more funky. All the other instrumentation ends. Ryan ends the song, fading out his own guitar solo. "Thank you," he tells the three hundred thousand in front of him, "Thanks for sticking around too. That's pretty awesome of you all."

Ryan's personal guitar Rene is seen rushing onto the stage, handing over RRH's signature acoustic guitar while taking the gold Fender.

"They say that festival crowds are the toughest to win over. I can already tell you that, that is a bunch of shit. They also say that summer is over. Can you believe this? They say summer is over. Summer is still very much alive here in Spain at the Festival De Música." He backs away from the mic as the audience gives him a huge positive response in return. "It's hot, it's sticky, it's muddy. You know what it smells like here? It smells like cheap beer and sweat. I just love it."

And with a confident smile, not another second is wasted before the crashing sounds of cymbals and a loud, steady drum beat is played by Aaron Andrews. The audience cheers as he continues the set with the opener off of Let a Man Be Lost, the perfect song for a summer night, "You Don't Know Who I Think I Am When I'm Not Myself." They quickly join in and start clapping along to the song, as Ryan starts to play the opening riff, with the trumpet and saxophone joining in. At the end of singing every verse, he adds a string of 'woah's', that make the females at hand go wild. During the breakdown of the song, Ryan's fast finger picking on the acoustic guitar, is helped by the booming horn section. Ryan starts to improvise scat singing. By the end of the song, the audience is clapping along to his improvised solo, singing every line along with Ryan, and the few couple of ladies seen dancing in the middle of a crowd.

Ryan continues with his acoustic guitar for the next song. He doesn't waste much time in-between the last song and the one that follows, only letting a couple of seconds pass by from when the previous song finished before jumping into the next one. He starts to play a riff acoustically that most of the audience isn't able to identify as being from Ryan's discography. As soon as he starts to sing in a soulful voice with his eyes closed, as the bass drum kicks in.

Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
Just watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again, ooh

I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

I left my home in Florida
Headed for the Bay of Biscay

Ryan is probably the live performer who thoroughly enjoys covering songs to lead into his own and such thing. This time he gives the audience a small cover of Otis Redding's "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay," to lead into his own song, "Driving Away From My Hometown," off of his debut album. The crowd changes when he makes the change, enjoying the fact that he is still playing crowd-pleaser off of his debut album, despite his dislike of most of his debut album. The cameras move around and over the crowd showing them singing along with Ryan. To such a point that near the bridge of the song he just tells the audience, "You sing it for me Barcelona," as he backs away from the audience letting the fans hear themselves sing the song in their own voices. The band finishes the song in-sync with the crowd's singing. "You all sound lovely, thank you so much." The lights dim again, handing off his acoustic guitar and being given his custom made white fender with the heartbreak decal on the top left hand corner.

"Some of you here tonight, have may the decision recently leave somebody you love, somebody that loved you, you still love them, they still love you. If you've done it three days ago, you're still on the straight and narrow. Congratulations. Now, if you've done it three weeks ago, it's getting tough to hold on because those dreams are coming back. Things happened that you wanna tell the other person about. You know what I'm talking about? A lot of people out here are trying to stick to their guns. Telling yourself, 'he ain't the one,' 'she ain't the one.' Now it's getting harder and harder not to write back when they send you that text past nine o'clock at night. This happened to me recently so I can tell you I'm not bullshiting you. When you resist, they incite. Let your Uncle Ryan tell you that you are not crazy. You're just lonely. [crowd cheers knowing which song this banter is leading into] Loneliness is a hell of a drug. Loneliness is a part of heartbreak, of the heartbreak cycle. Do not call them. Do not answer their calls. Good love is on the way, don't go back to someone just because they're your safety net. That is not love. That is fear. Fear of ending up lonely. If my words aren't singing in, then ladies and gentleman I would like to introduce to you all a friend of mine. His name is, Perfect Loneliness, and he is going to sing you a lullaby to remind you that it is okay to be lonely."

He begins to play opening riff to the upbeat song loud. Whether his fans enjoy his long-winded banters or not, he also gives them their money's worth when it comes to playing tunes they love to hear. The entire band joins him soon after, the backing vocalists again joining in the chorus of the song, the drumming kept to a steady bluesy beat through out the entire song. At the bridge of the song, Ryan's vocals are loud and powerful, not pitch perfect but he doesn't seem to care nor does the crowd singing right along with him. The backing vocalists continue to sing behind him, as he goes towards another one of his guitarists, this time Robbie McIntosh as they show off some ridiculous dance moves while playing their respective guitar solos' that get a good laugh out of the crowd. The whole band ends with the drummer finishing off the song as he travels the entire round of the drum kit and ending it with a bang.

"I might not have the theatrics the beautiful and talented ladies of GirlSpice had last night. And I might not have motherfuckers starting a moshpit in the middle of the crowd like Mind will have tomorrow night. But this is what I do have; the most beautiful women coming out to watch my set. [crowd cheers] That's all I need! Keep the sexy ladies coming to my shows, and I will repay each and everyone of you by playing great music for you all. And if you are not a fan of my music or my art. [crowd starts to boo] No, no, no. They're out there and it's fine. I promise you every artist and band to play on this stage this weekend have haters in the crowd. But ugh, if you don't enjoy my music, my watch tells me that I'm the final artist to play tonight. So if you don't like me, please do us all a favor and go the fuck home."

He says in a calm voice, nodding his head as his fans agree with him by the amount of cheers and applauds his comment receives. He is once again given his acoustic guitar. The lights dim behind Ryan, and a single spotlight shines on him, as it did at the start of the show. As soon as he starts to play the next chords, the entire audience cheers knowing exactly which song it is. He leans against the mic while continuing to play the same melody, as he begins to sing "(I Know) The World Is Black & White." It is one of his many songs that while never being singles, have become very popular with his fans. As he mentioned in a recent interview, the song has stand the test of time and is always just as personal to him as when he first wrote it every time he sings it. For such reason he sings the song in a personal and gentle voice, never forcing his vocals to go higher or lower to the melody. Before reaching the bridge of the song, he begins to whistle along his guitar picking.

"Actually, I think I know how you can stop life for a minute. You want to know how? The closest thing I can come up with, because I used to get really wasted and think about time travels. I have a lot of theories on that, but it's a little late and I should wait for some other day when it's just you and me and not 299,999 other people with us. Here’s how you stop that train. You love everybody as vocally and as truly as you possibly can. And if you love somebody as much as you possibly can and as loud as you possibly can. Then one day, even if you do have to go to their funeral, which for many people you will. Everyone else is going to be sobbing, and you're going to be crying, but you're not going to be sobbing, because you will know that that person knew that they had all your love and that you loved them more than anything in the world. And that's the only way I can figure that you can actually stop life for a minute or two, is that you tell everybody that you love them. So that they're squared up with how you feel about them. You can stop time if you tell someone you love them, because that shit is forever."

His eyes can be seen getting teary-eyed during the middle of his banter, all the while still playing the same chords over it. He takes a moment, before diving right into the bridge of the song, finally singing in a louder vocal register, before singing in full on pitch falsetto tone and holding the note to finish off the song. "Thank you," he tells the crowd with a simple nod.

The lights rise again, Ryan taking a moment to change the toning of his acoustic guitar just slightly before the next song, as the band returns to their place. The lights shining don't last very much as they quickly dim again to give a more personal feel to the stage. This time a spotlight shines on Ryan's pianist who starts to play a gentle piano note. Another spotlight shines on the side of the stage as a single ballerina dressed in full on white attire skips onto the stage and starts dancing a dramatic piece to the melody the piano is creating for her. The stage starting to be filled with smoke. It is shortly followed by a female violinist stepping out from the shadows and playing along with the piano. The ballerina continues her piece as another one appears on stage elegantly, performing her on piece alongside the other ballerina. The violin creates a sound that sounds similar to a song in Ryan's discography but the audience isn't quite sure what song exactly will it be leading into. A third ballerina comes to stage, dressed in the matching outfits the other two have on. The music stops for a quick second, the audience cheering. Before it picks up once again with a slightly different melody, as all the ballerinas begin a dance that is in-sync with each other. While Ryan said just moments earlier that he didn't have any theatrics in his concerts, this certainly looks like something theatrical.

The violinist and pianist stop, once a steady guitar riff is heard being played on an acoustic guitar. Another spotlight shines on the mic stand with Ryan stepping into it, showing the fans that he is the one playing the melody. They cheer not only for him, but also because they know the song he is about to perform off of Let a Man Be Lost. It's "May Our Love Last for Tonight," a song that he hasn't played live yet until tonight at the Festival De Musica. The smoke is still appearing around his feet, the area behind him where the ballerinas were dancing is now dark. "This song is for the girl from Tennessee," he says quickly. Boy, if he doesn't want rumors going around about him, he sure shouldn't say open-ended comments like that, such that could be interpreted and twisted anyway possible. Ryan is slowly building up the song as he begins to sing softly into the mic, with the audience singing with him, creating a beautiful sea of sound.

Tonight is a moment that we wish it could last forever
Half-full wine glasses, cracking jokes
The cure for loneliness is a kiss goodnight

Let's build walls out of sheets and clothes
Things that can be teared down but keep us safe tonight
I'm on drink two-in-a-half

May I say you have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen

He sings the next verse in similar fashion before the audience is just hit across the face as the entire band joins in with their respective instruments once the chorus kicks in and the lights rise. A full-on explosion of sound, well as explosive as a Ryan Ross Hernandez song can get, which is no where near the level of metal pros Jason Smith and Mind. As the album version, this live version reminds the listener of the heydays that Ryan had with his former band PANIC!. After the first chorus, the ballerinas are once again seen on the stage dancing behind Ryan to the song. He sings the chorus loud and full of passion. The song goes down as being one of the best from his set.

Ryan turns his back to the crowd and places the guitar appropriately in front of him, he nods at the rest of the band, giving them the cue to start their performance. He turns back around to his microphone and starts to play a soft guitar riff with each time being played, he pulls the wah-wah pedal, customarily placed on his guitar. From the first riff, the audience cheers and applauds knowing that Hernandez will be starting them off with his hit single and best single winner at the 20th International Music Awards, "A Never-Ending Trip to Heartbreak". The band slowly follow up behind him. The groove drums speed it up a bit, which feels like a slow train carrying the song on top of it. Soon after Ryan starts to sing his famous falsetto voice range that sends the women in the crowd in a swoon, most of which sing-along with him. By the chorus a chugging bass line joins in the laid back rock performance. Since the lyrical meaning of the track deals with how explosive relationships can be, it is only appropriate that the background screen is decorated with war battlefield imagery being displayed. Now can one relate a relationship to be as bad as World War III? Apparently, Hernandez can. But that really doesn't seem to bother the audience in hand. Ryan plays a guitar solo towards the end of the song, it was a controlled solo since it was quick and heavily layered by the other instruments. The end of the song is closely resembled to the intro with the wah-wah pedal echoing guitar coming into play again.

The lights dim down to achieve a more personal setting, with the orchestra coming into play for the second time in the night, bringing a haunting sound from just the string section. It's followed by the drums, bass, and guitars respectively. The light rise up again once Ryan starts to play the opening guitar solo, letting everyone know that it's "The Story of a Misunderstood Man". He showed off a swirling guitar work repertoire, with the huge instrumentation behind him to create booming sound. His vocals sound as crisp as ever, really saving the best for last. While he sings, he continues to play a circular guitar riff. At any rate, Hernandez always returns to his defining vocal gesture - the line that slides down like a contented sigh or up like a raised eyebrow, giving his beloved hits their air of easy intimacy, it's tempered by a plaintive, sweet melancholy that carries plenty of emotion and meaning.

One too many nights were the ones that
Once revolved around you
Recollect all the shattered pieces
Praying this home won't fall through, again
All my friends accused me of losing my mind

But I swore I could handle it

You sing me a song of how beautiful we could one day be
But you go back one day and turn it into a goodbye song
And I lived in your dark twisted games for one day too long
But you promised me every night that the grass would get greener eventually
Wonderin' which gray shade of you I might get on the phone, tonight
Well I stopped calling back and this song is to let you know why

At this point a sea of arms are seen from the immense crowd at hand, each one echoing behind Ryan's every vocal, to such extent that the crowd vocals nearly overpower the audibility of Ryan's own voice through the PA system. A pedal steel is now added to the mix, adding even a greater amount of mournfulness to the already slow burning kiss off of a ballad. All the instrumentation quickly starts to build up and become more powerful towards at the bridge of the song.

You are a philosopher at sorry
And making women blind with your wit and charm
Never impressed by someone who figures you out
All the girls that you've ruined have lifeless eyes
Cause you burned them out

But I stopped your games
Before fire could catch me
So don't look down
I'm shining over your sad, lonely town

Ryan held onto the final note, but as soon as he finishes, the audience is caught by surprise because of the fireworks that fly from above the stage. Giving meaning to the shining reference in the song. Ryan dives into an emotionally charged guitar solo, not even singing the final chorus or for that matter getting so invested in the solo that he forgot about it. "You sing it," he tell the audience who don't need to be told twice as they sing in union the final chorus, as Ryan finishes off the night with a soft guitar whisper, before the song comes to a complete halt.

Come up to meet ya, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you, tell you I need ya
And tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets, and nurse me your questions
Oh lets go back to the start
Running in circles, coming in tails
Heads on a science apart
Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh take me back to the start

Nobody said it was easy
Oh it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start

Ryan plays a swift cover of the Coldplay song, "The Scientist," over a gentle piano keys. He rises his guitar and starts to play riff his backing player was just playing before, in a more prominent form. A quick rise of cheers is heard as the riff signals for Hernandez's closing off the night with "The Other Side of Desire," a fan-favorite off of Let a Man Be Lost. In a melodic tone he uses the wah-wah pedal before diving into singing. A red light illuminates the stage along with the limelight that was already in place. The basslines progress to a much cleaner tone while the drums don't change much from the start, only with the occasional cymbals added here and there. Ryan sings in a more registered deep voice rather than his regular falsetto vocal register. By the bridge, the performance turns into a all-out emotional rock jam. As Hernandez sings the chorus, the look on his face is almost as he is physically in pain. For the breakdown of the song, he dives into the most impressive guitar solo we've heard from him in the entire set. For well over a minute, the audience just presents pure guitar excellence as his eyes are even seen rolling to the back of his head as he plays the solo. He sings the final chorus, following the guitar solo, in such an emotional tone, while not hitting most of the high notes, the audience does not mind at all as the emotion in his voice seems to make up for it. He finishes it off with a simple 'oooh,' before calling it a set. "Thank you for having me Barcelona. Enjoy the rest of your weekend."

And with that he gives the crowd a quick round of applause, as they completely shower him in applause and cheers, before the stage goes dark again as Ryan Ross Hernandez and his band head off stage.
