ExiledTrack DescriptionThe fast paced synthesizer begins as the intro to the song, quickly followed by Keyboards a strong drum beat, the music increases in pace as the song moves on and Michelle begins singing the opening lines of the song at around the 24 second mark, the drum beats stop briefly as Michelle sings and then they return later on in the song as they start to beat furiously as Michelle sings, “You Don’t See What I Can See/Because I Failed They’re Gonna Banish Me/Away From The World And Normality/I’m, I’m, I’m … I’m Gonna Be.” And the drums continue then throughout, a soft almost unnoticeable acoustic guitar is playing throughout which helps to keep the music moving along nicely, the chorus provides a strong vocal from Michelle as she sings “I’m Gonna Be Exiled/Sent From This Planet Like An Unwanted Child/I’m Gonna Be Exiled By You/Dropped From Your Life Like A Bolt From The Blue.” The song is seemingly about the pressures of being in the music industry and the fickle nature that comes with it, Michelle providing the perfect vocals of softness mixed with a timid sense of anger. The song closes with a repetitive and slow drum beat, matched along with the soft acoustic guitar, an almost regretful feeling and an air of anger from Michelle seems to appear when she slowly sings out the final part of the song, “You Don’t See What I Can See/Because I Failed They’re Gonna Banish Me/Away From The World And Normality/I’m, I’m, I’m … I’m Gonna Be/I’m Gonna Be Exiled/Sent From This Planet Like An Unwanted Child/I’m Gonna Be Exiled By You/Dropped From Your Life Like A Bolt From The Blue.” Songwriter’s Analysis“This is a song which is kind of about the music industry, it’s like so fickle sometimes and some really great artists just disappear into obscurity because of how fickle the industry is, I guess in hindsight it could relate to the failure of You Just Lost Your Lover in the charts, but I did write the song before that so it wasn’t actually inspired by that, I guess I was kind of thinking about some artists I used to listen to and I think, where are they now, so many artists get dropped from their label because their song didn’t chart so well or something but there’s more to music than that, it can’t be all number 1 singles and monster hits, it’s about creating something that stands the test of time, something you can look back on in 20 or 30 years and go, wow I’m really proud of that and that’s kind of what I wanna be able to do in 20 years, hopefully look on this record and go, wow, I created that record at the age of 16 and it’s all my own work, that would mean more to me than commercial success. In terms of the songs recording, it went pretty smoothly because I had sort of got what I wanted from the song before I headed into the studio, a couple of slight changes kinda enhanced the song a little and helped make things sound a little better but the recording of this track was pretty simple.” - Michelle Green The Video The video starts off with Michelle at her album launch. She is surrounded by paparazzi who are asking her questions about her career. She answers politely even though some questions are...weird. "Michelle, what is your favourite song on the album?"She turns and smiles to the camera's; "I'd have to say that my favourite on the album is 'They Build Us Up....' which features the amazing Katie Coyle"."Are you in a lesbian relationship with Katie?"."No, honey".The paparazzi snap photos of Michelle and she starts to sign autographs. Michelle is wearing a lovely black, almost ballerina like dress which is receiving lots of lovely comments. Whilst she is the centre of attention a man in a business suit bursts in and holds up a newspaper. "STOP!!!!" He shows everyone a newspaper article on Michelle. "This woman here does not deserve any attention what so ever, for Michelle Green IS A FLOP!"The people at the album launch run around screaming things like; "She is nothing!!" and "I want my mummy!!"The man holding the newspaper walks up to Michelle and starts shouting in her face. "YOU FAILED TO CHART ONCE! YOU LET ALL OF YOUR FANS DOWN, YOU DON'T DESERVE TO BE AN IDOL ANYMORE......YOU SHOULD BE EXILED!!!!"Michelle blinks and when she re-opens her eyes, she finds herself in a white room with no exit. The music intro starts and two female dancers appear beside her. They start to dance through the music intro which lasts for 24 seconds. When the first verse starts she is alone lying on the floor. In This World It Seems That All They Want Is Perfection But They Don’t Know It Doesn’t Exist And All We Have Is No Direction We’re Living Our Life One Day At A Time Anything More Than That Would Seem Like A CrimeDuring the second verse, the dancers re-appear and start a ballet routine with Michelle. Perfect Looks And A Perfect Heart They Don’t Realise That Doesn’t Exist They Don’t Know Where To Start And I’m Making My Own Way My Own WayWhen the pre-chorus starts, the dancers stop and cover their faces with their hands, leaving Michelle to dance on her own. You Don’t See What I Can See Because I Failed They’re Gonna Banish Me Away From The World And Normality I’m, I’m, I’m … I’m Gonna BeIn the chorus she is standing in front of a white background with a giant red circle in the middle of it. She is wearing a black feathery bird like dress and is sporting a black bob wig. I’m Gonna Be Exiled Sent From This Planet Like An Unwanted Child I’m Gonna Be Exiled By You Dropped From Your Life Like A Bolt From The Blue No More Music, No More Love No More Laughter, None Of The Above No More Failure And No More Luck I’m About To Be Banish, I’ve Come UnstuckIn the next two verses, clips of Michelle in the rooms she has been in are shown. If I Fail, At Least I Failed Trying If I Lose I Won’t Be Crying If I Succeed Then I’ll Take The Praise And Build Myself Up For The Media Craze
But I’m Not Enough For The Judging Masses Because They Just The World From Rose Coloured Glasses They’ll Banish Me If I Fail This Time But I’ll Take The Risk Because This Life Is MineIn the pre-chorus it is just Michelle's mouth seen in the video. You Don’t See What I Can See Because I Failed They’re Gonna Banish Me Away From The World And Normality I’m, I’m, I’m … I’m Gonna BeDuring the chorus and the next pre-chorus, Michelle in the black wig is shown again. I’m Gonna Be Exiled Sent From This Planet Like An Unwanted Child I’m Gonna Be Exiled By You Dropped From Your Life Like A Bolt From The Blue No More Music, No More Love No More Laughter, None Of The Above No More Failure And No More Luck I’m About To Be Banish, I’ve Come Unstuck
You Don’t See What I Can See Because I Failed They’re Gonna Banish Me Away From The World And Normality I’m, I’m, I’m … I’m Gonna BeIn the last chorus she is lying on the floor with tears on her face. I’m Gonna Be Exiled Sent From This Planet Like An Unwanted Child I’m Gonna Be Exiled By You Dropped From Your Life Like A Bolt From The BlueMichelle closes her eyes and when she opens them she is back at the album lauch. With reporters looking at her and asking questions. "Michelle are you ok?"She walks out of the room; "Excuse me....."TO BE CONTINUED.... |
