Roxy Firecracker walked in, feeling sad and lonely. She had never spent a birthday without her twin in her life. Today the Firecrackers turned 23, and Roxy was on her own. Worst birthday ever, she thought, before going up to the bar.
Roxy : G'day. Got any birthday beer on mate's rates?
Barsteward : I can do that, just for you, Rox. How old are you today? Legal age I hope!
Roxy : 23, so well into it.
Barsteward : Wouldn't have thought it, you look so young babe! Happy birthday.
Roxy gave Barsteward a sideways smile as he handed her the beer. She sat down at a table and sat drinking and applying eyeliner - then, she noticed a lone, leftover guitar by a stool in the stage area of The Dirty Bastard. She pointed it out to Barsteward.
Roxy : May I?
Barsteward : Feel free, not got anyone booked for tonight.
Roxy smiled, sat on the stool, plugged the guitar into an amp and started to strum and sing one of her favourite songs; "Happy Birthday To Me [Feb 15]" by Bright Eyes.
Roxy : All eyes on the calendar, another year I claim of total indifference ....
She sat in the corner, listening to Roxy play. She had been here for days on end now. She knew where to go, but not how to get there; she knew who to see, but not where she was. This "rebel uprising", as she called it, wasn't going to be easy.
Roxy : And you can't believe that he's really gone - and all that's left is a fucking song. |

Roxy wakes up on the stage, yawns and stretches. She then walks over to Barsteward.
Roxy : Whoa! What happened last night?
Barsteward : Roxy Firecracker does Conor Oberst moment. You played a full set of Bright Eyes songs, while drinking beer after beer after beer, downing them in one. You can REALLY hold them! At about 4am, you sang "I had a brother once" and then collapsed.
Roxy : Haha, could have been worse I guess. I hope someone recorded it so Joshy can see. And so I can see. I only remember doing Feb 15th.
Barsteward takes out a camera.
Barsteward : All high-definition and good to go, if you want them up.
Roxy : Deffo! Cheers, mate.
Barsteward : I hope Barstewardess over at The Failboat And Flugelhorn is impressed with my camera skills .... and of course, the superstars I get in here. |
