Military schools for all, apparentlyThe jist being that the utter nuggets at the Centre for Policy Studies Tory think tank wants to create a free school (all of which are an utterly appalling creation of the Thatcherites in both Labour & Conservative parties) to be run by people from military backgrounds. Including nuggets of depressing gold such as 'qualified and unqualified teachers, because "teacher training is basically training young people not to teach"' & "children could be taught using military-style discipline." In the 21st fucking century. Brilliant. Especially at a time when teachers are struggling to find jobs, lets hire folk with no qualifiactions. The idea that any Tom, Dick or Harry can start a school & use it to indoctrinate people to their creepy religious cult, their awful discredited economic system or worst of all into accepting a military style servility & passivity is disgusting. We need to encourage free thought & the joys of learning in kids, not turn them into fucking automatons. Or do you disgaree? Are soldiers good role models for children? |

Soliders? Did you mean solderers? Because that would be more useful I think, learning to solder and all that, rather than ramrod military discipline and all that....which for the record, I don't think is that bad an idea. There are some kids out there that need that sort of discipline and in fact would thrive on it, giving them some sort of purpose. I suppose though there would be better means to acheive it. Some people out there need a size 9 military steel cap smashed firmly into their backside.
I dunno what I am getting at. Either way education thinking, strategies and approaches has gone rather stupid over the years.

haha, a whole school run by solderers... brilliant!!
but on a serious note.... i think the idea of military style schools is a horrific idea... just because some people need that sort of discipline doesn't mean everyone does.... or even that everyone at the same school does...
unless you suggest sepperating children at an early age depending on how you think they will respond to authority and then sending them away from home to certain schools.... which sounds a little bit orwellesque in my opinion. |

Well, it depends whether this is a sort of specialized school or whether its going to be part of the whole public system...which I assume is the case? (post a link forkboy dammit!) If it was something that was stand alone, run purely for troubled kids (I am thinking older children in their teens...dunno if you'd be sending five year olds to these things...) hosted by ex military types then I'd not have too much problems with it but if it was a broader initiative, having unqualified types teaching young and impressionable children from an early age as part of the government education established cirriculum then no, it would be quite the silly idea.
Like I said, education policies over the years have just gone to the shithouse, programs and policies setup by complete idiots. Australia is a prime example.
