Joshua Calder was born on the 24th of June 1993. His father was an accountant, whilst his mother remained a housewife, until Josh was the age of 8 in which she started part time work as a cleaner for a large company in London. Although he spent the majority of his younger years growing up in Hythe, Kent, his family relocated to Colchester, Essex due to his fathers work when he was 13.
Jousha was always made to try his hardest with his educational studies, with both of his parents wanting him to follow in the same career path as his father, thus meaning that Joshua's grades in school were always high. However, he had also become known throught the school as a talented performer, taking the lead role in his school's drama production when he was only 15 years old, with the role including singing. With this achievement, it pushed Josh to want to get away from the boring life of accountancy which was planned for him by his parents and taught himself to play the guitar, writing simple and catchy songs with a group of friends, forming a sort lived pop rock band called Echoes.
After recieving his GCSE results, all of which were above a B grade, he announced to his parents of his goal to become a musican and performer, and to his surprise, they gave him the support that he wanted, buying him a new acoustic guitar, and allowing him to take up a music course as on of his A level choices (along with maths, statistics and sociology in case things didn't work out). Whilst studying for his AS level in music, he began to learn more about the production of music, and began working on recording an acoustic demo of one of the songs written for Echoes, which once completed he kept to himself due to it not being to the standed which he wanted.
His determination to improve his musical ablitity caused a dramatic effect to his work effort with his other subjects, therefore causing him to drop out of college after his first year (at the age of 17) to work on music, whilst supporting himself with work at the local Co-Op to pay the rent his parents were charging him with, whilst using spare money to pay for the recording of his first songs. He spent any spare time writing songs, and with help from a close friend learnt to create simple keyboard loops using a vertual program.
Once the money for his first songs was saved up, they were recorded in a local studio, and uploaded onto Youtube and Soundcloud, although not gaining a large amount of views/plays, the feedback from listeners was more often than not positive, and gave Josh the confidence to start to perform live at local venues with the support of a few friends, who played guitar and keyboard for him. After playing at the same venues until December 2010, he had gained some what of a small fanbase, and his Youtube videos began to shoot up in views, he was not noticed by a record label however, and started to doubt his chances of making it. He then spent a few months improving his singing and musical ability on both the guitar, and with his creation of keyboard loops.
In the first months of 2011, he started playing venues in London with his newer, more electronic based music, although not many people turned up to the shows, it gave him the chance to expand his small fanbase, and have a higher chance of being spotted by record label owners. Due to the expenses in travelling to London each week for these shows, he moved in with his Aunt and Uncle who live in London, and played roughly three shows a week at various bars, pubs and venues, expanding his listeners slowly with each gig. Whilst performing these shows, a fellow musician performing on one of the nights showed him an advertisement from famous producer Damion Holmes, who was looking for members to be part of a boyband that he was putting together and managing, although he'd never been interested in being a member of a boyband, he decided to take the chance just to see if he'd get accepted, and after his audition, was told that he would be one of five members of the group.
Josh got to meet the other four members of the group days after auditions finished, and instantley felt a connection with the other members, forming friendships almost immediatly. The group is named Midnight Rush, and they're finally ready to show themselves to the music industry, and are set to become chart toppers.
