Born Nathaniel James Bailey on November 23, 1981 Staten Island, New York

Raised in the Stapleton housing projects in Staten Island, New York. Nate Bailey, otherwise known as Stat,was used to living in harsh situations. From age 2 to age ten Nate, along with his older brother Alex, lived with his father Samuel. Samuel Bailey was a former jazz musician turned junkie and domestic abuser. Nate grew up watching his father strung out on drugs as well as his oldest brother Alex, who unfortunately followed in his fathers footsteps. Nate had to learn how to provide for himself. He tried working at local jobs around his neighborhood. Until he reached the age of fifteen when he found his true love, hip hop

Since then, Stat has continued to build his buzz as a budding underground MC. In 2004, reports surfaced that he was singed to an underground label and was supposed to release his debut album.However that deal fell through at the last minute. Many doubters claim that the reason he is not signed and has not released an album yet is because he is overrated. Stat has used those claims over the years to push him to work harder and become the star he knows he will be.

chatting with DJ Masked Invader on raw tone 102.7

On Wednesday morning, Stat made an appearance on Raw tone 102.7 hosted by DJ Masked Invader.This was his first appearance on radio since the negotiations with a major label fell through back in 2004. The interview lasted twenty minutes along with questions from callers all around the city. For those who missed it here are some of the key question asked.


Masked Invader: So stat, you haven't released a project in six years. I mean, it seemed like you fell of the face of the earth.what happened?

Stat: Well, after the whole contract situation, I kind of distanced myself from Hip hop. I was angry at both the business side as well as the art side. I contemplated experimenting in different genres of music.

MI: So what made you come back?

Stat: Like I said before, I distanced myself away from hip hop for a awhile. However, I started listening to hip hop again about a year ago. I then got an urge to return to the studio as both a rapper and a producer.

Mi: Whats your opinion on New York's current hip hop scene?

Stat: I think it could be better, but I also think it could be worse. I think a lot of New York rappers are reluctant to change. They wan't to rap like some of rappers before them. They want there rhymes filled with bragging about their wealth, fame or how tough they are. And I used to be the same way.I think there needs to be more New York rappers who want to do their own thing and stay in their own lane.

Stat also premiered a new song which was recorded only a few days ago. The name of the song is 'bitter' The track shows Stat at arguably his best lyrically as he vents on the world,music and relationships. The song was also produced by Stat. He also hinted that this song could possibly appear on an untitled, soon to be released mixtape.

There hasn't been much news posted on this website in the last three days. However, that does not mean Stat has not been working. During these last three days, Stat has been focusing on not only writing and recording but searching for both a studio and live band. And according to him, "The search is over." Stat along with Q. Jones announced via webcam that Jones' band, Blank Visions, will be joining Stat on tour as well as in the studio . " I wanted to try something different, I have never used live music in the studio or on tour," said Stat.

Q. Jones explained the type of music his band would play during studio sessions, " well, we like to mix jazz,soul, and even a little indie. Hip hop is a big influence on us as well. So, we will probably try to figure out what sounds right and work off of that." The two artist respect each other even though they make two different types of music. " We respect each other not only as musicians but human beings as well," said Stat," And I feel like we will create music that will excite you but also stimulate your mind."

Gabe: Can I feature on one of your songs?

I can write my own verse. But only if you want me to. I'm pretty good at rhyming! :D But it's up to you.

Gabe: I'm not a rapper, but I can definitely make a verse that can shatter you XD
