Swan Songs and Broken Promises is the latest effort from Las Vegas experimental pop punk band archaic couture., who over the past two years have given their all for their band, and have never said die though it's been just as long since their previous album Make Something Count. After constant lineup changes, current members Mila Ahtisaari(Vocals), Devin Perccone(Bass), Chris Sekine (Drums), David Reese and Tyler Westbourne (Guitars), have come back stronger than ever with their new album filled to the brim with improved lyrics, awesome vocals and all-around great musicianship.

The album kicks off with the semi-breakdown in "Reverser", which finds the band reminiscing on their past LP goodnowgo and appreciating their fans for supporting them over the past years. "Reverser" transitions right into lead single "Delayed Breathing," a radio-friendly ripper fans will find themselves singing along to. This is the main theme throughout the EP and it becomes apparent within the first few songs that the band has evolved, and the new lineup proves that they can hang. Excellent drumming from long time member Sekine, blazing guitar from new additions Reese and Westbourne, and the catchy as always vocals of beloved female lead Mila Ahtisaari.

archaic couture* haven't completely grown out of the angsty pop-punk that was found on their first two albums, the experimental concepts are used sparingly throughout, although the quintet do take a trip back to the style displayed on the previous effort Make Something Count with the anthemic "Skylight Eyes", which features some of the best lyrics the band have written, and the heavy pop-punk of "Lucerne", which features the heaviest breakdown on the album. It’s this restraint and lyrical growth that make Swan Songs... an appreciated effort.


From their enthusiasm about music, to their appreciation of fans, Swan Songs and Broken Promises is a mature display that has tightened up everything good about the band and increased it ten-fold.
