Lullaby
Track Descripton
'Lullaby' opens with a soft breezy piano playing that makes you think that this song will be a slow ballad. At around 8 seconds in, a smooth drum beat and a synth start playing alongside the piano, lifting the song ever so slightly but still remaining ballad like. This is another R&B track which Michelle is experimenting with. It has slow but powerful vocals and a moderately fast paced instrumental which come together nicely to make one powerful song. Michelle puts in probably her most memorable vocal performance yet, hitting high and low notes she has never hit before. During the 'lullaby, lullaby' breakdown, the song turns a bit darker as Michelle hits her lowest notes yet and the drum and synth sound out the piano. As the song ends, during the last 10 seconds, the slow breezy piano starts playing again.
Songwriter's Comment
"This was a track that I was really unsure about to start with. It was really R&B oriented which I have never done before. I know that 'Push Me So Far', 'Nightlife' and 'Only When I'm Smiling' are R&B influenced as well but you can categorise them as having elements of dance and pop which makes them fit into 'Exiled' perfectly. However, this track is very soulful and is probably the most R&B thing I have ever done and it was so much fun. I was really experimenting with my voice on this track; I added really low notes alongside high notes that I never knew I could hit, also I added a few vocal flexes and quirks which is something I have never done before. When recording the vocal quirks and flexes, people honestly said I sounded like Jessie J which is a massive complement! I decided that this should be the first new track to be heard on the deluxe version as it is the most powerful and I'm sure it will draw people in"

Vocal Quirks/Ticks
Staring at the clock,
wondering where he is
I'm so stressed out because he didn't even call me
Not one text or a little ring,
so I cry myself to sleep
If these walls could talk
They'd have lots to say
They've seen all of my tears
Because you don't come home any more
So I turn off the lights
And have a good cry
Cos' I know he's out with the guys, and'll come home telling lies
In the middle of the night,
All I do is sigh
Cry myself to sleep and sing a lullaby
Lullaby
Lullaby
Lull-al-lul-lullaby
The next morning, I wake
I'm in such a state
I see you lying on the couch, and the whole room's a mess
Bottles, packets and cigarettes
All I do is clean up your mess
If these walls could talk
They'd have lots to say
They've seen all of my tears
Because you don't come home any more
So I turn off the lights
And have a good cry
Cos' I know he's out with the guys, and'll come home telling lies
In the middle of the night,
All I do is sigh
Cry myself to sleep and sing a lullaby
Lullaby
Lullaby
Lull-al-lul-lullaby
When I'm alone I sing a lullaby
Hush baby don't cry
That's all I seem to do, to calm me down
Sing a lil' lullaby, lil' lil' lullaby
It's what I do to get through the night
Lullaby, lullaby, lullaby, lullaby, lullaby
Singing, I'm singing, I'm singing, I'm singing, I'm singing
Sing a little lullaby
So I turn off the lights
And have a good cry
Cos' I know he's out with the guys, and'll come home telling lies
In the middle of the night,
All I do is sigh
Cry myself to sleep and sing a lullaby
Lullaby
Lullaby
Lull-al-lul-lullaby
