He has been involved in music since the age of 19, working as a session musician as well as a songwriter; He has remained relatively unknown but has worked with several well-known names in the music industry as well as working with Alicia Lena as a touring guitarist on her recent ‘Waking Up’ world tour. He has written several songs in the past and has worked as a producer for a number of relatively unknown musicians but is reportedly set to begin working on his own music as well as continuing to write for other artists and produce. Early LifeBenji Luna was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to parents, Emilio and Marcia Luna. He is of Spanish and American descent, he has three younger sisters and one older brother and they were brought up in Hawaii, he describes his upbringing as ‘extremely relaxed’, they lived right out on a beach and he and his siblings spent the majority of their time on the beach. His parents were both heavily involved in a local music group and this led to Benji’s fascination with music, he first learnt to play the Ukulele before moving onto the acoustic guitar. He was close to his three younger sisters and spent most of his spare time with them and their friends, he was a lively and fearless child, often trying his hand at anything he could, from hand-gliding to surfing and even considered becoming a professional surfer during his teenage years but his interest in music was much more powerful and at the age of 18 he left Hawaii and moved to New York City in order to pursue a music career. CareerHaving moved to New York City at the age of 18, Benji initially struggled to get noticed, he would spent his week days working at a small Italian restaurant as a waiter during the week and he would teach Spanish classes on the weekends in order to make money, he would also spend his free time writing music and sending out demo’s as well as taking to the streets of New York where he spent a lot of time busking. He would mostly be found in Central Park. At the age of 20, he got what he considered to be his first real break in music where he was offered the chance to work at a local recording studio, during this time his duties would include tuning artists guitars and providing assistance in the music process, however his role wasn’t quite what he had envisioned, he stayed in the job for 2 years and during this time he met and became friends with Alicia Lena who happened to be starting her own career at the time, the two stayed in touch and in May 2011 he finally got some sort of break when she asked him to tour with her as an acoustic guitar player and backing vocalist. He is now focussing on producing and songwriting for other musicians while he looks for a record deal.
