![UserPostedImage](http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/5510/lateshowlogo.jpg) Our first guest for tonight is a young country-pop singer-songwriter, her debut album has been in the charts for four weeks now and has gone platinum. Please welcome the highly talented, Ellie-Grace Summers!
David Welcome to the show, Ellie, it’s your first time here.
Ellie Awww Thanks, it’s great to be here.
David So your debut album has gone platinum recently, that must have been a pretty big moment for you.
Ellie *smiles* Yes, absolutely. It was an amazing moment for me of course. I didn’t expect it do quite as well as it has but yeah the support has been incredible for the album and thankfully people seem to really enjoy it.
David Well of course, it’s a very good album, all the more remarkable when you consider that you wrote the entire album on your own, is that something you always envisioned for your music to be all of your own, I know a lot of young musicians work with songwriters and such.
Ellie Yeah, I mean I’ve been writing songs since I was thirteen years old and I think it’s important for me to have my music be my own work. But yeah sure people work with songwriters and such and that’s always a nice option to have but for me I guess I prefer to write all of my own songs.
David It’s interesting but do you think you’d ever consider working with songwriters, I mean on the strength of your debut album I guess you don’t really need to but would that be an option?
Ellie Yeah I’d definitely consider it, I mean I’m always open to input and collaboration, providing it’s a natural kind of thing, I mean when it was time to start working on the album my old label gave me the option of taking writing sessions with professional songwriters, I decided against it because it didn’t seem like a natural kind of thing and for my debut I definitely wanted to create an album that was completely my own work.
David That’s admirable and I guess it paid off for you. You’ve recently signed to a new label, correct?
Ellie Yeah, I mean it was really surprising to me. Umm, Monk On Fire Records recently closed so I was kinda without a label but thankfully not for so long and Studio60 Records offered myself a record deal and of course it was a pretty easy decision to make for me.
David Yes, they’re one of the big labels, I understand.
Ellie Of course, I think for me personally it’s the perfect label, I’ve got a lot of friends in the music industry that are a part of that label and so I always knew about the label, but yeah I spoke to a couple of friends from the label and they said it was a really great label to be a part of.
David It’s a great thing, knowing people and be able to take advice from them. You have a new single coming soon, Is that correct?
Ellie Yes, it’s taken a while to get things figured out for the new single, we had some trouble deciding on which song, It was planned to be released in September but we had to delay things. The song is called I’d Wait Forever and it should be released in the next two weeks.
David And you toured in support of Electrodeath, Do you have any plans to tour again anytime soon?
Ellie Yeah, I’m looking at it and we’ll see what happens. There’s nothing greater than performing in front of your fans every night, I’ll be looking to tour again sometime soon, definitely.
David And one thing that happens with young musicians is the intrusion of your private life, how have you dealt with that because there was of course that Ryan Ross Hernandez thing that became a pretty big story at the time.
Ellie I think, you know that was a weird few weeks for me. Umm, I definitely wasn’t prepared for all of that kind of attention, I think no matter who you are, if you’re a girl and you spend any amount of time with Ryan, people are gonna say things and jump to conclusions. Things got weird; I think we’ve all moved on from that moment of time though.
David That’s good that things are going well for you now, there was a moment where you were center of attention, for a young girl from a very small town that must have been difficult for you, especially with what ensued at the Chaos Awards.
Ellie Yeah, what’s done is done. I made the decision to go to the show and brave whatever was to happen instead of hiding away at home and I was prepared for what was gonna happen, I know there was gonna be attention and boy was there. I’d be lying if I said that it was easy to sit in the audience and listen to everything that was directed at me, it kinda felt like everyone was just staring down at me but you know, I thought it was the best decision for me to go to the show and I maintain that it was the best decision for me, thankfully things are good for the right reasons now.
David Okay and what about your personal life now, are you dating?
Ellie Umm, No I’m not dating anyone right now, things are going pretty well right now and I’m happy with how things are going. That’s not to say that if a relationship was to happen I wouldn’t be interested *giggle* But for now, I’ve got my friends and I’m happy with that.
David Great, well thank you for taking the time to be here tonight. Ladies and Gentlemen, the highly talented, Ellie-Grace Summers. |
