![Sonye Sonye](http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k514/ItzBarbieBee/Shakira.jpg) Sonye Tania Santana, or known for her stage name Sonye (pronounced Son-Yay), is a Columbian-American singer known for shaking her hips. Sonye, is a Multi-Platinum selling artist. She displays raw talent and has achieved global stardom in the past years. Her first debut album, "Legends of Sonye", released through Columbia Records, achieved high commercial success. It landed on #1 on the US Hot 100 Charts, #8 on the UK Hot 100 Charts, #2 on the US Pop Charts, and #30 on the Japanese Chart. Early Life & Career Beginnings Sonye Tania Santana was born on September 29, 1985 in Bogota, Columbia. Sonye's parents divorced while she was 8 years old. And going to therapy sessions for 2 years straight has made her accept the split up between her parents. Sonye attended the Bogota High School of Performing arts when she hit the age of 14. She excelled in all of her major subjects and took dance, chorus, and English Language Arts classes. Sonye had different careers in mind for herself. At first she wanted to become a commercial model. Then, a dancer. And choices began to change time and time again until she decided to be a singer. At the age of 17 in April, Sonye began to pack for college. She was accepted into many schools around the world. She was accepted into Le Havre University in Le Havre, France. She was also accepted into Philadelphia University in Philadelphia, USA. Many other schools accepted her as well and she then planned to attend Columbia University in New York City. In August 17, 2002, Sonye began to study Music Production at Columbia University. Whilst studying in college, she worked at Burger King.
Sonye began to record demos at a recording studio owned by her rich friend Peter. Peter was also attending Columbia University. Sonye was persuaded to send a demo to different labels. At the time, and still to this day, Columbia Recordings, Epic Records, and Sony Music Entertainment headquarters are in Manhattan, New York. She sent in a demo to Epic Records repeatedly but was turned down. She sent in a demo to Columbia Label Group (Sony Music Entertainment Unit) and the label immediately scheduled a meeting with her. The meeting was held on December 25,2002. At the meeting, she was asked to sing one of her demos she sent in. The label, thoroughly impressed, signed her onto the label. Sonye thought she was going to be able to attend college and have a record deal but eventually in March 12, 2003, she dropped out of college. Early Career, "Legends of Sonye" (March 7,2004 - June 15, 2005) Sonye supported many acts. In July 2003, she supported Mariah Carey on her "Dream" tour. She also supported Whitney Houston through September to December on her tour as well. Sonye began to record tracks in early January the next year. She released her first single, "Perfect Life" in March 7, 2004. The single hit #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart/#10 Pop Charts. The single was certified Gold the following month. Her second single "Legendary", released on June 20,2004, gained her worldwide stardom, landing #3 on the Billboard Hot 100/#5 on the UK Charts/#1 Canadian Pop Charts/ and #88 on the Japanese charts. She released her first studio album, "Legends of Sonye", on August 12,2004. On the first week of her debut album, she sold 377,000 copies, hitting #1 on the US Hot 100 Charts, #8 on the UK Hot 100 Charts, #2 on the US Pop Charts, and #30 on the Japanese Chart. The album was certified double platinum, selling over 1 million copies in the US, over 600,000 copies in the U.K. Her 3rd single off of her album, titled "Sweet & Sour", served as her second #1 single, charting #1 on the Billboard Hot 100/#1 on Canadian Charts/#4 on the U.K. Pop Chart/and was played over 25 million times in different radio stations around the world. Sonye received 3 VMA's that year winning "The Best Pop Video of the Year" (for Legendary), "Best Female Video of the Year" (for Legendary), and "Best Female Pop Video" (for legendary). That year she also won 4 Grammy Awards and more. But Sonye was not able to attend these awards night due to her being on tour. "Sparkling Glam" (January 4,2006 - April 14, 2008) & Advertisements & Donations Sonye released her 1st single "Brown Sugar" from her upcoming album "Sparkling Glam", in February 8, 2006. It peaked on #1 on the UK Charts/#7 on the Billboard Hot 100/#1 on Canadian Charts/#1 US Pop Charts/& #1 on the UK Pop charts. Sonye was on the verge as the new international superstar. She advertised for Pepsi in May of 2006. That year, she also signed a modeling contract for Cover Girl and she made the cover of the Rolling Stones Magazine, UK Vogue, US Vogue, and more. In late March came the release of "Heartbeat Anthem", peaking #1 on Billboard Hot 100/#12 Canadian Charts/#76 in Europe/and #4 on the UK Pop Charts. In May she featured on Mariah Carey's single "Don't Say My Name No More". On June 21st,2006 came the release of her album "Sparkling Glam", peaking #1 on 5 different charts, earning 6 Grammy Awards, and 4 IMA awards. The album sold 686,000 copies in it's opening sales week. Selling over 6.2 million copies worldwide.
From the years of 2005 to 2008, Sonye earned over 48 million dollars. And by 2008 she was worth 67 million dollars. She donated 5 million dollars to charities around the world. 2010-Present (Untitled Project)
Sonye has announced that she has been working in the studio in the past months. Originally, the album was suppose to be released in 2010, but she was dropped from her label on 2009 after disagreeing with them numerous times. Sonye plans to retire from the music industry after releasing her last and final studio album. She wants to create her own all genre Record Label.
