PRESENTS
Winston Marsh tunes his guitar quietly before kneeling down to his pedalboard and nodding to Renee Belmont who kneels to her own pedalboard. Greggory Marsh has finished his tune-job and Paul Glover taps his cymbals in preparation.
GEARS OF FATE
Winston tip-toes over to his mic and shouts a quick, “Hey!”
HEY! (PIXIES COVER)
Renee begins to start her bassline, slow, deep and funky. Winston begins to cover Black Francis:
Been trying to meet you
Mmmmhmmm
Behind him, Greg begins to start his own strumming, raw and high in progression.
Hey! Must be a devil/Between us
Or whores in my head/Whores door
Whore in my bed/But hey!
Where...have you...been/If you go I will surely die!
At this point Greg stops his strumming, and the bassline drops even lower when Paul taps the cymbals in quick succession. Winston begins to lightly strum his own guitar, as it grows stronger and louder with each strum. Paul begins to lightly tap his bass drum every second as well.
We’re chaaaaained!
We’re chained!
We’re chaaaaaaaained!
Then, in the background Greg begins to stomp on his distortion pedal while making continuous strums. While Renee begins to sing backing vocals.
We’re chained (chained)
We’re chaineeeeed! (chained)
We’re chained!
We’re chained!
Then everything stops, leaving only the bass for half a minute until Greg’s guitar comes in with a faux ballad style of sound. Before long, Winston’s plucks of his strings are back and Paul is playing lightly on his drums again.
Ouhh!/Said the man to the lady
Mhmmmm
Ouhh!/Said the lady to the man she adored
and the whores like a choir/All night!
The drums get stronger and louder as Winston howls into his mic.
And Mary ain’t you tired/Of this
Is the sound/That the mother makes when the baby breaks!
We’re chained!
Renee begins to sing backing vocals.
